Came across this in my hunt for a 21' RC. It is in a storage unit in Lake Havasu. I am NOT the owner, just trying to help the guy out by posting here. (with his permission). For particulars, PM me. Too big of a project for me. It is a 22' V-Drive boat. He has engine(s) available to go with the boat if needed. I think it could be bought very reasonably. Probably not much more than the cost of the trailer. If you want to call him directly his name is Steve @ 714-812-3727.

Looks like the boat that was sitting down in Parker for sale a while back. If its the same one they were asking quite a bit for it and it needed a ton of work. Stress cracks everywhere.

Don't know the gentleman's name but by your post I believe this is the same person. Terrible set of circumstances, that's why I posted this for his son-in-law. $500. may not be too far off!, call Steve and talk to him.

Forgot the year...it's a 1978

Im pretty sure it's a "72"

I looked at in a warehouse in San Bernadino a few years ago, it has a hole in the side where a houseboat hit it, It's very rough !!!

Really nice older gentleman that showed it.

I double checked the number I have for him....it's correct as posted. I have left messages for him before and he usually called back in the early evening.

I really don't know much about it other than what the son-in-law told me. He said his father-in-law bought the boat in Texas. I believe it was less than 2 years ago, can't be sure though.

Different boat I think... I looked at the Schiada that had the starboard side caved in by the houseboat. Can't remember when but it was about a year ago. It was complete with motor and was running (barely) at the time. I've got a bunch of pics of that basket case. I dubbed it the Holy Schiada! The wiring was a nightmare. The damage was pretty ugly. It made me sad that somebody had taken a perfectly good Schiada and ruined it through neglect and carelessness.

Come to think of it, you are correct, I went back and looked at the pictures, it had a NA 454 in it and seats next to the motor, complete basket case. It was located in San Bernardino near Chaparral Motor Sports.

Hey Groper. I was checking out your boat in your avatar pic. My friend Brandon use to own that boat. He lived in Lomita at the time. Whereabouts are you in Fullerton? I live in Fullerton as well.

Do you know if it still for sale? If so what does it need? What trans and V drive is in it. Any idea what he is looking to get for it.
Thanks, Jerry

As far as I know it is still for sale. As you can tell by the pics it needs a complete redo. Not sure of the components, you'll have to call him. The last time I spoke with him the names mentioned on this thread are not that of the most recent owner. I believe he said his name was Joe, but could be wrong. He thought the boat came out of Texas when his father-in-law bought it. It is, and has been sitting in storage in LHC at Campbell Bros.Storage, for a while. I believe the first real cash offer will buy it. It's costing him monthly just to keep it. He also said he has motor(s) at his house in Huntington Beach that could go with it......call him, real nice guy.

Thanks, I called him and he said he wants $3500 for it. From the previous threads I read, it seems to be in very bad shape with tons of stress cracks. Seems to be over priced. Very nice guy.

Last time I spoke to him was to make sure I had posted the correct phone number. He said he had a few calls and was representing it at $3500., BUT no one had made any kind of offer. It is a COMPLETE RE-DO! It was much more than what I wanted to take on. Throw him a cash offer. He just might take it. At worst he'll say no! I also sent pics and info to Lee at Schiada. Maybe he can give you some direction? Good Luck.

I have not seen this boat in person but I bought my '74 22 Schiada V-drive for $7,500 and put a transom in it, all new underwater gear, all new hardware, all new wiring, all new plumbing, all new gauges, fresh 502 BBC, freshened Turbo 400, new C-500, re-furbed the trailer, etc. etc.

This boat is worth every bit of $3,500. ITS A SCHIADA!!!!!

No motor, no V-drive, no trans. Otherwise all there. Needs cleaning and some glass work. What is it worth?

Maybe one should approach this from what it would cost to restore. If you have pics of the present condition, take them to a fiberglass shop and get an estimate for repairs. You could easily spend 6k just fixing stress cracks, if they are extensive. I would guess 10k for an engine (not big hp, provided the engine rails, motor plates, etc are all there) 4k for a T400 trans (need coupler, flex plate, etc) 3k for a v-drive (hopefully the plate for the drive is there). Then you need a driveline. Hopefully, the strut, propshaft, prop, rudder, steering, cav plates and actuator are all there??? Are you going to need a new interior?

After you have a figure for a cost to restore, the next question is: What's it worth? Maybe 25k in this market. I sold a 21Spectra v-drive for 16k, and bought a 85 21RC with a twin turbo motor for 25k. I't a tough sell, even if you got the hull for free.

Seems like a very sane post from the man in Anchorage.

You will have every bit of $25,000 in it by the time you are done. Mine had a trans and V-drive in it when I bought it. Had the trans. freshened by Art Carr and the orig. C-500 leaked so I bought a freshened up C-500 with 29's in it from SteveO143.

The Boat got:

Brand New 502 CI BBC-$7,600
Turbo 400 freshened and fit with Art Carr Spline Drive-$2,000
New/Rebuilt V-drive=$1,200
New Prop Shaft, Cruiser Rudder, Turn fin, stuffing boxes, strut bushings=$2,000
All new gauges=$500
New Switches and all new wiring harness=$900
New Transom wood glassed in by Oc Boat Repair=$1,800
Mercruiser Center Rise Manifolds for now=$300 (hope to buy some nice thru transom headers or perf. manifolds this year
Fuel and water line plumbing=$800
New Tiller Arm= $250
All New Hardware Throughout=$1,000
New Menkens 3-blade prop=$900
Swim Step and a bunch of clean up and set-up work and plate adjustment=$2,000
Complete Trailer Restoration with bow walk, fresh paint, pin striping, all new LED lighting, diamond plate steps, chrome baby moons, new tires, new 9-inch wide fenders, new bunks, new bearings, all new wiring, new 90 degree bow stand and roller, new crank, added electric brakes= $4,000

I color sanded and polished out the hull with the help of my Dad at our lake house.

The boat could use new interior but it is decent and fully functional. Eventually I will have new interior and carpet done and reconfigure it with two buckets, a flat hatch and bench seat. that will likely run $6,000

I also want to do a nice exhaust eventually and MSD igntion and have the CF numbers lettered on and the non-skid resurfaced.

I could have bought a turn key Schiada for what I have invested but I do have the pride of restoring it and getting it back on the water and I had alot of fun with the project. I enjoy the boat with my wife and daughter on Lake Mead and we boat with my parents and their 1980 22 Schiada that I grew up in. We are a Schiada family.

I'd love to share some pics but don't know how to get them up here. Any help?

Travis

Trust me, its alot cheaper to buy them complete in a nice condition rather than rebuild them. Then again, what fun would it be without a complete rebuild :grumble:

Trevor at Hampton did a great job on it. He even slung the boat and put in on a boat dolly while they did the restore.

I was wondering if they'd do that with the boat. Might have to go by and talk to him later this year about a quote. My trailer isn't too bad but I'd like to make a few changes on it and have it repainted.

He's very fair and does clean work. I'd highly recommend a bow walk. Ever V-drive trailer should have one.

I have a C-500 also available but would seriously consider putting in a splitcase. Much easier to find and change gears. I won't work on C-500's as they are a real pain in the ass and I have to charge too much.
