I was wondering if a 625 Ilmor would push one over 100. Dave's runs in the 70's with somewhere around 400hp, Andy and Verns runs in the 80's with a 500efi (470hp). It's lighter than a BBC. Just thinking out loud here is all.......:hmm

Gery with the twin turbo ski race boat has the fastest 21i/o that I know of. Might be interesting to get his numbers.

No it wont break a hundie? So it would take a 725 Ilmor?

I think if you set it up correctly you would be in the high 90's with the ilmore.. The boats dot like a lot of weight in the back of them and the ilmore would help that I think..

I think if I whippled mine it would run close to 90 on 600'ish hp.

DID YOU SELL YOUR BOAT... OR MOTOR??

Niether, I still have all of it if your interested.:skull

I am thinking though. I would like something that fits in my garage at the river, is well built, fast, timeless, turnkey, and still custom and or cool. It's gotta ride good too (like a Schiada, Hallet, Cyclone, etc.). Something I can park on the inside dock at Fox's if I have to...............something I can manage by myself on a busy weekend at the upper sandbar.............something I can still get out in the water and do a buck in if I feel like it.

It aint gonna be easy finding something that does all that. I may have to build it new.

The Nordic Cyclone with the 1075 and the 6 drive would fit the bill. They've run the piss out of it though.................

I would think you need 900 ish to break 100. Maybe a little less, but I have a feeling like you are going to eat up drives to get to that point.

yeah, something I'm not willing to deal with. That's why I don't have blower motors in my boat now. I want to use my shit every other weekend and not worry about what I'm going to break.

Engine is sold. Boat/trailer still available. Gonna get some pics as soon as this rain stops and list it soon. All it needs is a complete engine. Everything else is there.

I own a v-drive schiada and will never sell it, but have been very impressed with Hallett's 210 as well.

This seems like a pretty easy question to answer, why not ask Ron or Lee Spindler or Stan from Schiada, or Carson Brummett, or Paul Pfaff, or Bob Teague, Or Alexi from Boostpower, or Billy Dunsmore, bet they could all tell you exactly what kind of setup & hp you'll need to get to 100 in any one of the Schiada hulls. Plus I'm pretty sure they know damn near every big hp Schiada out there and if it really runs 100+, ask an expert, you'll get a good answer.

I don't know if there are enough i/o boats out there to get an answer from half of that list. I really doubt Teague, Pfaff, Brummet, Alexi or Dunsmore have set up a 21RC in an I/O. Not to mention I don't want an aftermarket motor. I want Ilmor power.

Stan thinks 650 to 700 should get it done. I would like to here from some other guys with i/o setups also before I decide if this is something I'm really interested in.

I really don't want a v-drive, or a twin turbo, or a blower motor. I want a small turnkey boat that's easy to drive for my wife and daughter. I don't want them trying to drive a v drive through the keys.

This boat runs 96 with 700 hp acording to Steve.

Boats bitching, heavy lay up to, they built it as a tank to pull todd in catalina runs, same power in a lighter hull may hit 100...

i bet a 525 with a light lay up would get you into the 90s as well too

Yeah they're all v-drives :skull

I'm not saying there isn't one, but i don't know of an I/O schiada 21' or 22' that runs over 100. There very well may be one, i just don't know of one off the top of my head.

The vectors with #3 drives ran well into teens, Lynch's old one that Brummett rigged (Mike Lotka's boat ran almost 120 i believe, high teens, i think he sold it Tony on the boards?) so it's very possible to make it happen with I/O, but they still don't handle like the v-drives

But they still take lots of power to get there ;)
And if you build a light boat with medium power to get there, it won't ride smooth like a heavy boat with high power

What kinda power / speeds did that 22 I/O that you built run Racey? I talked to the guy once, and he told me a speed # that kinda surprised me, but I can't remember what it is now..

Into maybe the low 80's? It's just a N/A 540 all aluminum, pretty mild motor, maybe 600-650ish hp. No one has ever really had a chance to wing it all the way out for any extended period because it was built as an Arrowhead cocktail cruise boat with a hand throttle, I've driven it a few times at Mead and let me tell you, a hand throttle at any speed, in a small boat like that, with any type of waves in your path = holy shit :skull Hand throttles are only good if you can stand up and drive ;) :D

Up at Arrowhead its a 35mph speed limit, everyone likes to cruise, sit sideways in the drivers seat while they watch the skier, foot throttles make it impossible to do that. If it was my own boat i'd ditch the hand throttle, and put a 2" shorty lower unit on it, it probably has a 4"+ deep X dimension. The thing would run bitchin, Brummett blueprinted the bottom, and it has the big daddy tabs on it. So Handling wise it's really a dream compared to most of the others that have been built.

How about a 21rc with a 300hp outboard? How do they work, ride, etc.?

I really don't want a v-drive, or a twin turbo, or a blower motor. I want a small turnkey boat that's easy to drive for my wife and daughter. I don't want them trying to drive a v drive through the keys.

I would put my wife the wheel of a 100 MPH V-drive LONG before I would even let them ride in a 100 MPH 21' Outdrive. You can stick a 21 V-drive on a solid 100 pass and not get light or out of shape. From my experience an outdrive cant do that, it has a completely different weight balance. Our neighbor at the river has a 21' outdrive with a supercharged small block chevy. I don't know how fast it runs but as I recall it was a handful to drive on the top-end.

I really think a 21' Schiada outdrive with Ilmor power would be a bitchen set-up. I also think it would perform well. As far as a safe 100 MPH, I'm not so sure. Sounds like a great build. Post lots of pics like you did with the 10'er...

She would never run it up. It's something I didn't consider though, the prospect of how it handles at that speed. 100 is just a number I threw out. That isn't gonna make or break my decision. I'd be interested to know more about your neighbor's set up, however.

My buddy has one. It runs very well. But not 100mph.

I wouldn't think it would. I would guess 75/80. It would be inexpensive in comparison to an Ilmor I/O, and I could do something interesting with the interior. Those motors seem too good to be true as far as reliability, power, warranty, economy, etc..
