I think we are going to stay at Cottonwood. I don't think I want to take my 21 across Mohave.
It looks like roughly 50 miles (Google Earth) from Cottonwood to Willow. Willow has fuel, correct?
Then about another 18miles to Hoover, so roughly 68 miles from Cottonwood. Do those numbers sound about right?
What does everyone run speed wise? 40-70? Also, what do you think of my 21 Daytona going? Looks like a decent amount of small boats make it
so I'm sure it will be fine.
Can't wait!
We tow from Bullhead to Cottonwood to launch. The best part of the trip is Cottonwood to the dam.

From Cottonwood Cove, it's about ~31½ miles to Willow Beach, and another ~11½ miles to Hoover dam. Katherine's Landing is ~21 miles south of Cottonwood Cove. (from river miles chart)

On a good day, I've had my 18' bubble deck bowrider from Katherine's Landing to Cottonwood Cove, thru the big basin, without issue. (Ice cream cones)

Windblown days, my 21' day cruiser did just fine, but both squirt bötēs are more at home on the river.

Yes, both Willow Beach and Cottonwood have fuel.
Mohave is 67 miles dam to dam.

Lots of good options.

There was a question about gas at willow, yes there is.

I might recommend not dropping your gas cap in river. Just sayin.

So if i was to make a sole suggestion based upon my two experiences. 2019 we stopped 4 times heading up, that allowed more regrouping etc as well made the day last a little longer. 2020, was a run to Cottonwood then run to the dam. That was fun but also a little more tiring on the kids etc. as well my wife was bummed as her picture opportunities were a lot more limited. So a few stops and a little slower pace really seemed more enjoyable imho.
So get the blood running pics. 🤪

That picture of the big horns is way cool. I’m going to steal it and get it framed

Can everybody pick a VHF channel between 1-16 this year? That would be nice to have a communications ability without cell phones for either grouping or break downs or whatever.

I'd consider going and taking pictures for the group, unless you all have a dedicated photographer in mind.
I def. wouldn't want to step on anyones toes. Some photographers can get a little 'Itchy-Scratchy' when newbies show up.
My boat is waaaaaay slower than the slowest boat in this group, but I could 'leap-frog' and leave early to get boats going by.
I don't do the drone thing, but do I have some pretty good lenses.
Just throwing it out there, not 100% sure i can even go yet.

While so many things are uncertain right now, one thing that is certain is that there will be a group of boating enthusiasts making a run from Davis Dam to the Hoover Dam on August 14 of 2021.I am looking forward to seeing everyone from years past and also meeting new friends and boaters.
BBQ, Shirt, and lodging info to follow.
Same as last year, if we get 10 or more people staying at Katherines landing, we will all get a 25% discount on the room. Book under “Riley Group”. We had to help them figure it out a little last year, so if you can PM me the name you reserve your room under, we can make sure discounts are applied.

we tried to secure a block of slips, but that was only an option if we paid in full in advance (not an option for us). But, we did learn today that only “D” dock has 13’ wide slips. I’d suggest everyone get a slip at “D” dock, all slips are the same price, and we would essentially have our own dock View attachment 967553
I had to be on North end of E last year end tie. My boat is over 32' LOA so they won't let me dock with you guys unless I can take the end tie of South D.

Most the photos i just posted my wife took in 19’ also had some guy that i think RD sent out to go that rode with Cole Brewed that took some great phots as well. One of my favorites he took a photo of my wife while she was taking of him. Both minimal zoom and from a few hundred feet apart. Made a cool pic.

I believe You are allowed to be over by 2’. What the wife told me when she made the reservations.

Last year about half the group stopped at a beach just south of the dam. This summer before the run I plan to try and find a few beaches further south in warmer water that can accommodate the whole group.
We can prerun it some weekend before. Get that @BHC Vic to show up and let’s make a run and figure out a meet.
I’d also like to pick a spot and get there before the group for a everyone going through drone video.

Yes the max for the slip is 32' as the slip itself is 30'. I asked about this last year and they said I could not go on an inside slip and the last thing I need is to come out to a chained up boat like that they did to the other member here. The difference in price between an inside slip and an end tie is like $30 more a night as well.

Also this year can we try a different brand of Ts and tanks? The port and company’s from last year are a harsh feel and don’t fit well IMHO. Just a suggestion. I’ll pay a little more for something with a different cut and blend.

And not white.... how about a gray lol. I looked at a white shirt and it will end up with a stain in it.

I agree, we were hauling AZZ for long stretches, I was trying to stay out front as much as possible to stay in smooth water.

Let me know when you guys plan this. I’m working at LAX at least until June or so and I’ll probably drag my sled down here for the summer.

I am considering this trip as it sounds like a blast. Only challenge is my boat is 33. I don’t mind paying extra for end tie but if those get full is it acceptable to side tie to a boat on end tie? I haven’t been to Katherines landing so don’t know the layout or the rules.

Not sure but in that scenario you could side tie to my boat if there were no end ties left.

Thanks Frogman! I went on Google Earth and checked out the Marina. Looks a bit tight on End docks. I will call them this week and see what’s available.

Just to put it out there if the date was a bad choice I’ll take the blame. I have a test in San Diego the weekend before so I asked if it could be on the second weekend to keep our family tradition going. We love this run

It’s not horrible to launch between 7:30-8:00 at least not the past few years. I’d love to stay there but we try limiting hotels etc with the boy.

Ok so just booked my 13x30' on Dock D. Called the marina and spoke to a guy there and explained his website states the boat cannot extend more than "15% to 2 Feet" which doesn't make any sense since 15% is 4.5' of 30'. He said just go ahead and book the one I did as he said no one will go down there with a tape measure and it'll be fine. I told him great but I don't want to come down in the morning and find a chain on my boat either and he said that won't happen.

bummer, if i can find a spot to keep the truck and boat nearby, ill drop it off, ride to sturgis, come back do the run and then go home, actually it will only add one day to the trip

Jo and I have done this the past two years and had a blast, missing this year to do the RDP meetup in Sturgis with @ONE-A-DAY and @H20 Toie, possibly @CanyonLakeDave and others . :)
You know how i know you’re old?????? Get your old ass back and let’s roll.

My yard is fenced front and rear, have an acre if needed for the night or the week etc just let me know. I’m in Fort Mohave 21 miles from the launch.

Mr Johnson blew by me at a bout the 1:40 mark in the 2015 run.

Great Video. If I could ask, how do you get the real-time GPS data on the video AND the progress graphic up or-down-the-river so to speak??
Special editing software?? etc? Thanks!

It’s in the settings on the GoPro, believe it’s the Hero 5 and newer that has the option. I don’t remember how, but have done it on a couple of my videos, it’s not hard tho.
