Wear rain boots. My shoes are still soaked. Great show again. Loved the Lavey 21, Shockwave mini decks, and of course the money no object DCBs. Even saw RD taking pics.

.....which is “just” their deck with a closed bow. Eff me I need a ride in one. [emoji1786][emoji1786][emoji1786]

“Just” their deckboat with closed bow, no! The 270 Python is the most recent deck boat in Cobra’s line up.

This is all NEW 280 Venom is exactly that, not the same as 270 Python.

Hernando needs to up his sales game then. Those were his words with the boats side by side. “This is the closed bow version of this boat..” ......with a big fkn motor.

I spoke to a Shockwave guy at the show. He said they couldn’t get that boat to 65mph with that 400. Said something was wrong and were trying to figure it out.

Talk about disappointing. I would have guessed low 80’s

Yeah for sure. I’ve been waiting to hear that number. They didn’t think it was a weight issue of the motor but maybe props or something. If the motor is not the issue must just be the bottom or weight of the boat? Either way it looked super nice.

That’s weird, my dad and I talked to Greg for at least an hour and he said the best they’ve had it was 75 and that was with a standard 5 blade and the motor set pretty deep. With the motor raised and a cleaver 85 wouldn’t be hard to obtain.

Interesting. What is the real deal then? I was telling the guy with a Shockwave shirt working the show that my 6.2 will do about 65mph. He said they were having trouble getting that 400 to even that number. Isn’t that motor in a hydraulic Jack plate? To where the motor can go up and down in the fly? I’m no outboard specialist.

I’m not sure what jack plate the motor had, if it was hydraulic then yes you could raise it on the fly. Greg was the guy working the show, at least he was on Friday when I was there.

There should be NO reason that boat can't get into the 80's pretty easy with a speed set-up on it (motor raised, big wheel on it). I know Todd at Tahiti said the one they did with a 350 ran an easy 75ish and I believe I recall him saying that was a lot of set-up things left on the table to eek out a little more if desired.

Have those dudes call me. We did a simple heavy atlas jackplate w 10” setback. Maybe 8”

Stock 26 4blade vented solas prop
350 verado
3 dudes, 2 dogs: 78mph in Yuma

The 21 deck uses a 16” setback billet race style stand off for a lighter 300x

Outboards are gnarly to do right.
Both our boats have Placecraft bottoms, trailers are indentical.

the 300r V8 should be best fit

I wasn't too far off! Sweet! Lol! I didn't realise you kept the verado so close. I thought it would needed the counterweight to carry the nose better. Interesting. So I'd assume the 300R would use something like the 16" bracket since the 300XS and the 300R are so close in weight?

I thought it was cool DCB had price as equipped prices on all there boats. I wondered what a comparable eliminator sitting 30 ft away cost?

Did you not see the Eliminator pricing sheets on the stands in the booth? I ask because it was a big debate on where to put the stands with the prices. They were originally near each boat and then were moved by the table where the apparel was being sold.

Hindsight, they shoulda stayed out by the boats. The booth quiet rather crowded towards the back there. I think they would gotten read much more if they were near their boats.

While the hull mold may have started out the same, there have been some tweaks to the closed bow version. It gets easy after awhile of answering the same question over and over to non performance boaters to say they are open bow and closed bow versions of the same boat, next then you know, its the standard answer. Laziness on our part maybe. Sorry.

Base price of the 280 Venom with 8.2 mag is $129K. To duplicate the red boat would be $269K

Thanks. I was in the booth when you introduced yourself to RD. I was talking with someone else, and got distracted. When I looked around you both had moved on.
Honestly, both of those Cobras were probably my number 1 and 2 of the show. The gel on both was awesome! I love how the bow of the blue boat was kind of a combination of a bulkhead and walk-off style fronts. Works well and I believe combines the best of both versions.
