530 has lost his title You are the Pretzel man.

I don't care about these other countries. I don't care about foreign aid. I do not want my business exposed to a trade war with China. I will lose.

It looks like the writing is on the wall, if your business depends solely upon cheap shit from china to survive, you would do well to reform your business plan.

IMO it's not a matter of if, but when.

My business does not depend on cheap shit from china. These components are very simple and make up maybe 1% of the cost of the assembly. The screw packs pictured go into millions of individual covers and plates.

You have obviously never done business on this scale. If you add a couple of cents to 10,000,000 so units per year it adds up to real money. It also makes you non competitive against other suppliers in the National marketplace.

You appear to be some type of mecanic. Do you think that GM, Ford, Toyota, etc. are able to just flip a switch and get everything domestically?

The US only produces 43k metric tons of Iron Ore a year. While China produces 1.38mm. We are 8th on the list:

1 China 1,380,000
2 Australia 824,000
3 Brazil 428,000
4 India 129,000
5 Russia 112,000
6 Ukraine 68,000
7 South Africa 80,000
8 United States 43,000
9 Canada 39,000
10 Sweden 37,000

Even if we were to make everything here I don't think we could meet production requirements without importing the raw materials from elsewhere.

According to the USGS: U.S. resources are estimated to be 110 billion tons of iron ore containing about 27 billion tons of iron. U.S. resources are mainly low-grade taconite-type ores from the Lake Superior district that require beneficiation and agglomeration prior to commercial use.

So 2c on 10 mil is $200,000 dollars. Yep that is indeed real money. If that is going to make you non competitive vs spending a few cents more to source it domestically, I would say your business is not viable anyhow.

I have no idea about what the big 3 will do if the trade war ignites, but this has been hovering around since President Trump was elected.

If I were any sort of supply manager for any of them I would have had a plan in motion to supplement or offset any shortages, it's called forecasting, it's done in many businesses.

I feel for you man, I do. Like many Americans who choose to model a business around importing, you take the risks involved.

But what do I know, I am just a simple Mechanic. I don't use cheap parts, and I source as much as I can domestically or from Germany rather than China when possible.

Hmm, so if you add two cents to each of 10m units, that's $200k, and if that's part of, say a $29 total unit, its .07% of the $290,000,000 in revenue. If you are making $290m, 200k is chump change. Now, if you are selling for $9 a unit, that's $90m gross, so 200k is still chump change, especially if that 2 cent savings gets you 10% rma, in which case that cheap input is actually really expensive.

But like he said, I don't think many people care about your screws.

I'm questioning the math being used. As I read what JBS is saying about the screws, they comprise 1% of a unit's cost. That means if the unit costs $10.00, the screw costs a dime/ 10 Cents. This is far different than adding 2 Cents to qoM units

Depending on what my profit margin is per unit, 1% of the cost is pretty critical to control in how it effects my bottomline.

I've dealt enough with the about industry to realize how anal they are on cost of fasteners. We sold fastening tools and special fasteners. They are overhead and have to be monitored as such.....

Without looking back, how the hell did we get on the topic of production costs in a thread about the KOrean crazy fuck?:D

From his post:

"If you add a couple of cents to 10,000,000 so units per year it adds up to real money."

Given 2 cents are 1% of total cost. What's his cost per unit and what's his price per unit?

But it's just screws.

You're tying the 2 cents in but to me it was just was mentioned in passing. 1% of cost is the key number to be considered from what I'm reading. When selling margins are in the 5%, 10%, or 15% range, 1% is critical.

Apparenting, I'm reading this different than you are, as to me 2 Cents is an irrelevant number unless it's used for a product that costs $2.00 to produce. I'm focused on the 1% of cost.

Make sense?

See, we're all curious people down here in the basement. I read it as him saying 2 cents is a big deal, though for context it helps to know how much that is in total cost. If 200k is a big deal, and it's 1 percent of the total cost, then why does he have fasteners added in the first place. How many actually use all the screws, or for that matter how much would sales lag if he added NO screws at all. Would customers freak?

Shit, maybe I do care about his screws after all.

OT is once again my voice of reason. Maybe I have presented this wrong. I am not going to open my books but I am a contract manufacturer that makes items for many different industries. The products they go into can be found at any electrical distribution house, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Many of these products have patents for features but are universally interchangeable per code. The fact that I produce several products that are dual sourced both in the US, Mexico, and China suppliers is amazing. My customers appreciate the quality but can only pay so much.

Keep in mind this is just one of my customers but this customer has world wide operations.

Look in HD electrical department next time you are in. You will see labels and bin boxes that look almost the same but are from different suppliers. By doing this HD can get product from whoever they choose and it does not require a reset. You raise the price a penny. No problem we will go to ___________

Margins are paper thin. We are not talking about a retail price of $29.00 but more like $7.00 on average. You guys are talking pennies. We routinely deal in the 4th decimal point. $0.0001

Lets just say you guys are right about this trade war. If so I may actually benefit. I do not think so for as prices rise and supplies are not available the economy will collapse.

As others have pointed out we are part of a global supply chain.

Like I said, I actually do care about your screws now. Funny thing is, there are probably hundreds of other items that count in overhead too, so a few cents in the product does matter at 7 bucks. So BTW, if you do drop the fasteners altogether, send me a check for 10% finders fee. Ask OT how to calculate it, I won't be able to. [emoji3]

Here's some input.....
Consumers should buy everything possible that's only American Made!
Consumers may have to pay a "bit" more for American Made
Manufactures should do 100% of its manufacturing in the U.S.
American Businesses should decrease their greed and shave some profits to produce in the U.S
My business is 100% American Made and produced in the U.S and even with the costs of goods and
Services increasing over the past 10 years our MSRP has stayed the same for the last 10 years.
Stop corporate greed then talk to me about MAGA.

What business are you in? Type of product? Unless you were overpriced or very inefficient to begin with I do not see how this is possible. MSRP often has nothing to do with street price. MAP pricing is a different deal. If you use any type of plastics, steel or chemicals this is pretty difficult to do.

I don't get into business in the P&G sorry. My response was more about my business philosophy. I will agree with you it is VERY difficult and I personally have chosen to take less in profits to satisfy my philosophies.

Some great reading in this thread 3 or 4 months later, lmao. People are more worried about trying to prybar justification for hating Trump than objectively looking at reality.

Let's look at it objectively.

Since Trump became President N. Korea has continued to test its nuclear program and continued at a rapid pace to perfect it's ICBM program.

What was your "objective" point? Or is it more of a speculative point of what Trump may or may not do?

I was thinking about objective facts and results, not talk and conjecture? When you get some objective facts that N. Korea has, in a verifiable manner, entirely given up its' nuclear and ICBM programs I will be the first guy to give Trump credit, until then it is just dreams and talk like Obama, Bush and Clinton did in their hollow promises......

You Trumpkins suck up to Trump like Obama supporters sucked up to Obama.........

Objectively that after Trump visited China and met with President Xi in the forbidden city, Kim basically ceased everything after China put the screws to him.

Objectively that when this thread was started N Korea hadn't fired a missile since that last one in November 2017, and hasn't done anything period since.

Objectively that playing hardball wasn't going to end the world because N Korea doesn't have a pot to piss in, and China doesn't wasn't a refugee crisis on it's hands

Objectively that Trump in no terms needed "Start a war to deflect attention from the Russia Investigation"

Objectively that while so many were buying into the media's bs stories trying to stoke fear about a full blown war in North Korea, or that they were going to nuke someone, anyone with half an ounce of skepticism and critical thinking could see that would never be the case, as it literally benefited nobody in the region. South Korea, Japan, China, or North Korea, who all except for the latter have economies based almost completely on international trade that would suffer immensely from that.

Objectively N. Korea's short and long-range missle and nuclear programs are farther along today than they were when Trump began office and they still have all of them.

The other stuff is just activity and effort, like past presidents have engaged in and you have criticized, they are not verifiable results.

You have two standards, one for other presidents, and one for Trump.

Bullshit, go check my history here, i always gave diplomacy the benefit of the doubt, look at Obama's Iran deal as immediate proof of that.

And you are pretzel logic'n here, "From when Trump began office" No shit it's further along, Until Trump went over and started pressuring their neighbors of course they were continuing unhindered, it was business as usual just as it was under Obama until they realized it wasn't.

As for their nuclear program, that may not even be the case, they had a massive tunnel collapse a while back at the site where they did all of their nuclear development, there are some reports that believe it could have housed the majority of their tech, data, and even many scientists, and it could take a decade or more to recover from it. Who knows, maybe that lead to them wanting to peace talk along with the pressure from China.

You seem to have two standards, one for everyone else, and one for Trump. But maybe that is just you playing your part of the foil here, which is fine, but do you stand back and look at Trump's outcomes like this everywhere else outside this forum, or are you just here to play the heel?

What I believe is a large part of Trump's foreign policy success, is those he deals with realize he will take action. His lines are firm, not conjecture.

Sadly the haters can't admit this is the correct way to approach issues where the US has been trampled on for far too long. The US has not had a President that carried that message since Reagan of the US being firm on our demands.

Trump has plenty of baggage but it's completely irrelevant to the facts on the table, he's getting the job done.

From where i sit and see, and i may be totally wrong, but it sure looks like the haters will do ANYTHING to justify their position that Trump is incompetent, is stupid, etc, etc, even when all other evidence is pointing to the contrary on said topic, they will nit pick minutiae and magnify it, while willfully ignoring all else.

When you complained about the size of government under Obama and then when Trump expands it at the fastest rate in decades, did you stand behind your former views and decry such expansion? No, you complained that people just "hated your lord and savior Donald Trump.

When you complained about Obama using EO's to usurp the Constitutional provisions of three equal branches of government, did you complain when Trump signed more EO's in his first six months than Obama? No, you complained that people just "hated" your lord and savior Donald Trump even though even Donald Trump said "Obama goes around signing executive orders." "He can't even get along with the Democrats. He goes around signing all these executive orders. It's a basic disaster. You can't do it."

When you complained about runaway government spending under Democratic leadership, did you complain when Trump signed the largest increase in government spending in decades? No, you complained that people just "hated" your lord and savior Donald Trump.

When you complained about runaway national debt under Democratic leadership, did you complain when Trump signed the largest increase in the national debt in decades? No, you complained that people just "hated" your lord and savior.

When you complained that Obama signed a deal with iran because the Iranians have never lived up to a deal, did you complain that Trump was going to work on a deal with the N. Korean's when they have never lived up to a deal and past presidents who entered into deals with them were "fools"? No, you complained that people just "hated" your lord and savior.......

We could go on for pages.

But you are probably right, it has nothing to do with consistency of policy beliefs, it only has to do with "hate".........

I haven't mentioned any topic in relation to size of the government, but i'd love to see the source for Trump "Expanding it at the fastest rate in decades"

I never complained about EO's, you have me confused with someone else, EO's are very misunderstood by the general population. My issue with EO's would be very narrow and specific to the content of the EO itself and if it does overstep authority, Not all do, in fact most are just part of the execution of policy by the Executive branch. Trump's use of EO's as far as i know has been to redraw the policy of the various offices directly under executive control, That is his job, his policy in action.

The Omnibus bill i never supported, but Trump was pretty vocal about only signing it because he promised to fund the military, as you know it's all about compromise, I'm not going to pass judgement on Trump's fiscal policy before it has even had a chance to manifest itself, I extended that same courtesy to Obama. You cannot unwind a bloated system overnight, there are so many federal employees that if you dismantled it you add millions to the unemployment lines overnight.

Let's not pretend that the national debt problem lies at the foot of the president, i never did, not even under Obama, it's a problem that runs deep through the legislative branch, and all the way down to the states as well.

Why don't you go back and look at what i said about the Iran deal Obama made smartass? I was literally the only guy in here that said "At least they are trying to do something diplomatically" Yes in the end it turned out to be bad, as money has now been traced backed to terrorists, but i never complained about it, so why don't you get off your ass and go back and look at what i said while i was being roasted in here for it.

Basically what you have done with your post, is project every negative attribute on to me, when they don't apply.... All to justify an agenda that 'Trump is fucking it all up', because you think i am a die hard Trump supporter. also wrong.

Do you honestly believe this ^^^ is the reason we opposed the Iran Deal?

Objectively pretzelated, Oracally approved.

It's a pretty sad thing to watch the ongoing saga of ignorance and insults digress into a charade of what this forum was.

Anytime the "trumpkins" label comes out, I immediately loose interest. They would rather insult everyone who does not fit into their "box".

Damn shame.
