Anyone seen this on Chevy rims before? I asked Jason at selman but he didn’t respond. How do I fix them? They look like shit and it’s bothering me. Suburban was just at Selman for service but that’s a whole other story that I’ll keep to myself.

Strip the clear coat and polish them or have them chromed. Usually a truck stop can polish them nice. Keeping them polished is going to be a pain but Usually can seal them for longevity. I just put methods on ours. It all depends on what you want to spend. GM’s finishings suck now. Already had to paint the roof and hood on the wife's 16’ suburban due to fading. Its well maintained and garaged part of the time too. After the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty they wont cover any of it.

i would polish and clear powder coat. the powder coat does dull it a bit, but you never have to polish, just wash.

I just bought my first ever Ford because I’m so sick of GM not standing behind their products. I have a Denali and from day 1 any quality issue I’ve had GM has punted on. Door handles break, dash cracked, Finish on dash buttons Rub off, low tire light on even those the tires are good and all sensors are new, cruise control doesn’t work, power mirrors are broken. I could go on all day.

I’m currently looking for a 2500 Silverado so I better get over my disappointment

Ive been searching for a new truck. I really wanted a Chevy but the dodge is looking better and better everyday. That ford in the classifieds is starting to talk to me too

Clear is peeling. Better off just buying some reasonably priced aftermarket wheels or a set of stock take offs as opposed to having those stripped and recoated, or even stripped and polished for even more $.

I’ve seen this reported on some of the GM sites I’m on. . If youre still under warranty I’d keep trying to hit up the Selman for the free solution. Otherwise there are other options like mentioned here. A lot of wheel repair places around now. They can fix them also.

Not sure what happened to Jason. He always took great care of me. My last issue with my 2500 i bought there was transmission went out at 30k miles. Tried to get the extended warranty and the kid Jason had call me raised the price on it $2300 from what I was quoted. Disappointed.

Hang on here, Can anyone name a GM finish in recent years that doesn't have issues?
I deal with fleet vehicles regularly and all the finishes, inside and out, fall off in short order.

Jason has always been very good to me. The service department though. I can’t say the same

Just curious. I have the same rims. They haven’t done it yet. I just us soap and water to clean the rims. I’m told that the products to clean brake dust off of rims have acid like chemicals. Sometimes I wish I had just this problems with my Chevy truck . My 2015 keeps fouling plugs every 5 thousand miles. So disappointed in my truck . I have to carry a scan tool and a set of plugs when I go on long trips . I just recently bought a device that doesn’t allow it go to 4 cylinders when not under load . I was told by a buddy that this might be the problem. So far so good .

I noticed it right after the car wash so you could be onto something there

It is absolutely caused by harsh wheel cleaning products.

This has been going on since the 80’s with GM. Not sure why there has never been a class action law suit like Ford had in recent years.

Only owned Chevys for 30 years. Trucks,Corvettes, El Camino’s and Camero’s. Last Chevy was a top of the line 2010 Silverado with all the bells and whistles. Most of the bells and whistles quit working and that was my last Chevy.

If you like the way the wheels look, just have them chromed. All of this talk about the new GM problems has me considering keeping my old '02 Suburban even longer. It's been problem free except for some flaky paint, a water pump and a cracked radiator. 170,000 miles on the ticker too! 😲

Most likely continued exposure to wheel cleaner ate the coating off.....
Alot of carwashes and mobile wash guys use stuff that makes their job much quicker, but can wreak havoc on your wheels.

Is there a particular car wash you use alot? Go up to the guy washing and see whats in the bottles

Bro you’re a Californian take them off for some black wheels already. Better yet go powdercoat them black.

Nothing to add that hasn't been already said but it sure seems like GM is taking the SUV and Truck buyers for granted these days. Cheap materials, lazy engineering and pushing out innovation year after year...

You could go with a company like Wheel Concepts , they probably have a style you like in stock , just exchange them . They even do mount and balance .

Same with Texas...every other vehicle has black wheels.
