I am in a battle with a detailer I hired to ceramic coat my boat. The whole reason I hired a “professional “ was to make the boat look new again. When I took it to him, it was a 9. He said he could make it look “like a new boat again”. He had many reviews almost all 5’s, so I hired him. Fast forward 3 weeks. I went to pick it up yesterday, and the sides of the boat looked very nice, but my main concern was the top side, where I had a little oxidation. Not only did he not work the oxidation out, the entire top had less shine, had areas that looked like the coating was just splashed on and kind of worked in. I asked him what happened and his response was...wait for it...since the boat is PAINTED instead of gel coat, he didn’t want to to color sand it. He said all high end boats are painted and even went as far as showing me a Donzi and Baja to prove his point.
I am pretty sure Ultras and most other west coast boats are gel coated, as I have owned a few different ones. Can someone please verify for me the Ultras are indeed gel coated?
By the way we are in South Carolina. (NorCal transplant).
One more question, is $2600 a fair price. Interior was another $450 for what he called leather ceramic coating...
Thanks!
