One of my brothers has a 05 GTO that is highly modified and he is not in good health. I talked to him today and told him I would like first offer on his car. It has a 416 LS3 based NA engine, MAST CNC and hand ported LS3 heads, huge roller cam, 4L6E transmission built to handle the 600-700 HP the engine makes, carbon fiber one piece drive shaft, rear diff from Australia that should handle 1K HP to the the rear wheels, everything Pedder's makes for suspension and so much more than I know right now. The body is pretty clean but needs paint, the interior needs a lot of work and weather stripping.

It is his pride and joy, but he has always been focused on making it faster, not keeping up on cosmetic things. I really enjoy the brutality of speed that this thing provides, but am also a perfectionist when it comes to appearance and maintenance.

What is something like this worth?

I would rather have the comfort of a nanny controlled Hell Cat Challenger or hot rod version of a Camaro. I have driven my brothers GTO in several iterations and it honestly has scared me. It is brutal, if it would hook up it's a legit NA 10 second car that looks like a Honda Accord. It rattles windows with the Kooks long tube headers and huge cam and big cubes. It hooks up enough that a sneeze on the throttle gets yo to a hundred MPH quickly with a lot of counter steer due to the 275 all out road race tires grasping for traction.

My good buddy just bought a decently modified ( not nearly as modified as your brothers ) 06 from the original owner with 65k miles , interior and paint in great shape for 16k. Tons of extra parts with it

This car was purchased in January 2025

Unfortunately, never close to the build price. On racingjunk.com right now there is one built a little more stout than this for $45K that probably runs low 9s and another one with 1400HP to the wheels for $90K. If you bought it for $30K you'd be being a nice brother. In the open market it would probably bring $20-25K.

I was thinking far less, been a long time since I researched the value of these things. Thank you for replying.

How many miles are on it ?
What colors ?
less than 100K, red. He bought wider rims from Holden and they are black in color. Black interior, automatic transmission that has been built and computer reprogrammed to handle the engine. He had the original aluminum LS2 stroked and poked with a Callies dragon slayer crank and bullet proof short block, but local shop that assembled it dropped a rod bearing in the pan and kept going. Ellis Grew was the shop owner, totally fucked my brother out of a lot of money.

Short video of the GTO with the smaller engine. That was a warmed over LS2 engine in the videos, the car now has a big cube LS3 engine with a much larger cam. . My youngest son is the participant in the videos. He loves my brothers car to this day.

I dont know, engine, tranny, drift shaft, rear end… and its running…$30k minimum in my world.

Lots of people will pay that for a track car, and never put it on the street.

I built a 65mustang for my wife.. building cars, even on a budget, doing all the labor yourself…Ads up in hurry.

Guy I know just bought one about 6mo ago. Its red also needs paint as well, interior is ok shape. Pretty much all stock and he paid $15k. He had been looking for awhile and thought it was a very fair deal as they are actually pretty hard to find and the ones you do are beat to hell. I've wanted one for a long time but have other things to spend $ on.

I'd ask your brother what he wants for it. If price beyond what you can/will pay, maybe helping him sell it for max dollar would help home out?

I passed on a stock one with a manual transmission and 25k miles for $15k when I worked at a dealership that took it in on trade years ago. Should have bought it. Such an awesome car. Would break loose accelerating in 3rd with a heavy foot. Couldn’t believe the guy traded it in on a Hyundai Santa Fe family wagon. Kids ruin everything. 😂 I guess it was also 2008-9 ish and people were scrambling.

I would rather have a near stock GTO, but I know what my brother put in to this car. I don't lose money on vehicles, or boats and he knows this, but I will put sweat equity and cash into maintaining things that have sentimental value. It is odd asking about the value of the car, but I would prefer it doesn't go to some one else who will beat on it harder than my brother did then part it out. His only son (my godson) bought a 06 6SP GTO from a guy I met at work on a MS server farm in 2009. His son still has that car and it is a connection to my brother. Again, sentimental value, but the price has to be right.

The car has been at a friends shop for a couple of years, it is running on a decent engine and transmission tune for a month now. My brother has gone AWOL on paying for the work and delivering parts. The family friend has had legit concerns, and when I catch wind go and prod my brother to square up, and or deliver the parts he has committed to deliver. I forced the issue today, picked my brothers car up and took it to him to drive. When I picked it up the family friend wanted to take it "around the block" to insure it was road worthy. My brother had told him to burn off the rear tires as they are 4 YO, my brother had told me that in person so I know it was accurate. The mechanic is well versed in driving big HP rear wheel drive muscle and holy shit, he drove it to about 75% of how my brother drives it.
At one point we were on Highway 9 and he laid in to the throttle at about 70 and it was laying rubber and squirely until 120MPH when he let out of it. He said he was at 3/4 throttle.

I took the car to my brother. He hadn't driven it for almost 3 years. About 15 minutes later we were on US 2 going from a 45MPH roll to 140 after what felt like 4 seconds when my brother let off . He said " did you here that?" I said no, what was that. He said the cords are coming loose on the inside of the rear tires and slapping the fender wells. I checked the rear tires before departing, there was almost no tread left on the tires but I couldn't get my hand all the way into the inner most portion of the tires. My brother knows that car like the back of his hand. He said take it back, and don't do any smoke shows. He had a new set of rear tires buried in his garage, I worked my why in and pulled them out and we put them in the back seat for the mechanic to install so he could finish tuning the engine and tranny.

His car has been outside in the PNW for 3 years and hadn't been washed. Before returning it to the mechanic I stopped by my house and gave it a quick wash then returned it for the final tuning.

Driving this thing was like riding a T-Rex. Exhilarating, it gets noticed by everyone due to the lope at idle and brutality of the exhaust at anything more than idle but it comes down to total self control or you will get fucked up or dead quickly. The engine makes around 800HP NA and it has a 3800 stall converter.

It needs paint and some interior work, but dam, it makes you feel alive driving it.

Maybe find out what He owes the shop, and deduct that from what sentimental value you put on it and make your brother an offer. See what he wants for it, and do some comps if he is really out of line.

I know this is family, but the later platform is a 10 year newer SS or a PPV they have a nicer interior and have the creature comforts the GTO is missing and still has the rental car look. With the GTO's they were budget priced because you were basically buying the drivetrain no frills.

Whatever you do stay good with your brother. Good luck.

He is squared away with the mechanic now, it is just unfortunate I feel my brother is in the process of checking out and not following through on his commitments until I bring it to a head.. I told him I would buy it from him if he ever wanted or needed to sell. Honestly it's way more car than I would ever want for a toy and it is was beyond my driving skill set and self control to really enjoy driving it like my brother has. It is damn impressive to ride shotgun with my younger brother driving though. I just don't want someone to buy it and rap themselves around a pole, and that is exactly what would happen. If he would have put a 9" solid diff and 4L80E in it like he was thinking about it would be a 9 second car. That being said, it ran 11 flats with the last engine combo on street tires (auto cross tires) and independent suspension. It should run low 10's with this combo and DOT slicks.

Realistically it’s worth about what a stock one in the same condition is worth, I would say around $20k.

Here is a very close build for $18k

My brothers car has a lot more work done to it with better parts. New LS3 alluminum block, bored and stroked to some odd number, not sure if it's a 416 or 419. He took the stock LS2 block to a 421 with a Callies dragon slayer crank, but the builder really messed it up and the rotating assembly was toast as well as the block so he started over, he didnt want a cast iron block truck motor.

It has LS3 MAST? CNC ported heads, Kooks SS long tube headers, Spin tech exhaust, a 2500.00 dollar convertor, every Pedder's part made to insure the differential lives, all bushings and suspension have been replaced with Pedder's stuff, he had a 1 piece carbon fiber driveshaft made for it, cost around 2500.00 but he broke it. It now has a 4" aluminum one in it. He has a catch can in it too, seems like a odd / cheap thing to advertise. I took a video yesterday while sitting at a stop light for my youngest son who loves this car. It wont idle at less than 1K RPM, while trying to idle it almost has a blower surge.

The Odometer said 75K miles this past weekend. My brother bought it used with about 30K if i recall. The following 45K have been been rented mule miles, he started modifying it from day one and rode it hard in a daily commute with a Go Pro mounted to the passengers seat and another facing backwards through the rear window. He used to post his escapades on YT. I thought it would have had miles on it, but my brother breaks shit constantly then it takes awhile to fix and upgrade the weakest link.

He used to have a ZX14, and had a handle on YT with a handle something like ZX14blur, the go pro videos he posted were fucking nuts. He was always offering for me to ride his road bikes, the smaller ones I did, but not the ZX. I road some Suzuki TL? big bore bike and after a couple minutes getting confident tried to manhandle it like a dirt bike. I dont ride street bikes for a reason, I do not possess the self control to insure my decisions don't kill me. My brothers car is like his modified ZX14.

He needs a better tuner. That car isn’t that exotic, it should idle like a “normal” car with good cam chop to it. If it’s surging, the tune isn’t good.

Is it still trying to operate through a manipulated stock ECU or does he have an aftermarket EFI system?

I don’t know, it idles around 1k RPM, anything less it stumbles and surges. I know it has a really big solid roller.

I have a video on my phone after sitting at a stop light for a couple of minutes, my gut and the steering wheel were jouncing at one point. Posted it off my I phone, it does not demonstrate the harshness of the lope. I think the tune is tight, just has a big cam and big cubes. and heats up after 5 minutes of idling. My brother said it still has a 195F T stat in it and needs a 180 along with a more robust radiator. He thought he bought one a couple of years ago but cant find it in his 3 garage.. did I mention this brother is a semi hoarder? Guns, ammo, car and tools are his thing like most of us, he just took it to another level.

Hopefully, your brother drives it everyday with his foot on the floor. 😁
