OK got a new project ... we are working on ... for a good friend... Mr forensic... we are doing a almost full restoration on his 20' spectra...

we will be filling several old holes in the glass and doing some repairs.. as well as a full rig and getting his newly freshened up motor running ... along with new interior to bring this classic up to date .... we will be posting pics as we go and hope you enjoy the process as much as we do.. I know that John is looking forward to actually using his boat this year and we are well under way as parts have been ordered and the glass work is underway...

sat I removed the motor so that I could install the starter a lil easier.. and while I had it out I went and cleaned and sanded the oil pan as it had corrosion on it... and that also allowed me to test fit the alt and get it aligned with out banging up my knuckles.... ... we also went and greased the U joints and the main pump bearing... and greased the shaft...

today I ran the wire loom after cutting some holes for it to run inside of... and I made a template to cover the old shifter hole in the side gunnel .... so that it will incorporate both the shifter and the trim switch for the hyd place diverter that we will be installing at a later time.. River Dave is going to help out with his expert milling capabilities and mill us a billet backing plate and it should look sweet when it is all said and done...

Bobby, I worked on Forensics plate a little last night, and I'd like to change the shape of it a little bit (just for aesthetics) The one you sent me looks pretty good, but when you make it semetrical etc.. There's just no way to do it and have it look bitchen.

That being said I'd like to make it kind of an oval deal.. I have 2 questions though that I need answered before I finish it.

For some reason you put the hole for the shifter off center, and down a little bit. Is there a reason for that? I think it'd look better if the rotating assembly was in the middle of the plate? (i'm wondering if a cable might interfere with the switch or something?)

In the following pics you can see the shape of the plate, and how I'd like to finish it. You can see in the "blue" the scribe lines, as well as some dark "ink" lines that resemble the original plate shape. In the 2nd to the last pic you can see a circle (original location of hole of the shifter) and a little + sign in off set and up. That is where i'd like to put the center of the hole now.. Let me know and I'll have it finished up this afternoon.

RD

thank you ... it was a fun project..

its not all the time you get to totally restore something that floats..

a lot of peeps do cars and furniture.. but not many boats.. this is a great classic that will now be around a few more great years...

Looks Great Forensic!! I must have passed over this thread a few times, cuz it's my first time seeing it. I really like how you layed out the interior and seats! I wish I would have just plugged up the dash when i re-did my gauges, but at the time I didn't know who to go to. Maybe a future project. I need to get my engine bay cleaned up like yours; that white on the transom really cleans it up!

Be-lated CONGRATS!!

Great looking restoration! What would be a ballpark price on doing something similar to this? I have a friend with a 24' Spectra (V-drive) in about the same condition who's looking to do an overhaul/restoration job on it. Also, where are you located? Thanks and great job!

If you guys want to start an EST date, lets get going.
I would like to know whos going & where to have it!
The last one I did was in late July (same weekend as the Shockwave Regatta) @ Nauticle Inn. I like that weekend because it is in the middle between 4th of July & Labor Day.
