When 21’r ruled!!!!

We had a 1991 Carrera. Classic line: "I wish I had never sold it."
Those 21's are still around $20k right now for 30 year old boats. That's $5-8k more than they were in 2019. I wonder what they sold for then....anybody?

Was this one of those boat shows where sellers closed the deal on the boats and then asked if you wanted to buy a trailer?😄

Amazing times for SoCal boats. Carrera’s 257 Effect X seemed like a game changer. Hell, they’re still nice boats. Can well recall when the basic quality of the DCBs and Schiadas put them above many. Wonder how many of the boats in that video are still being used? 85%+ wouldn’t surprise me.

Timeless color schemes and graphics. Awesome video! That was better than the 2023 LA (Pomona) Boat Show.

Lots of 5 and 7 color Gel fades in that video.... Cole's looked particularly good. Also that 21 Howard was timeless.

1991…jet $18,999, 11% interest, 10-25% down. 😉
( I think it included a no thrills trailer)

I bought a new 21ft Ultra in 93 and I want to say it was $18,900 OTD. You pick colors with a 350 mag, alpha combo with a nice Hensley trailer.

I loved that era of boats! I was there & was the kid walking around & taking pictures with a Kodiak throwaway camera that I’d take to CVS after & have developed lol 😂

My three favorites:

1. I love the 21 Ultra’s. That 21 LX was beautiful with the black bottom & dark colors. And their 21ss w/blue grey/black 8 color gel coat. Ultra was really putting out some beautiful boats from like 1988-1994, using dark colors & cloth interiors! I’d have my mom drive me to their Pomona shop on the weekends so I could take pictures. Then in1995 Ultimate by UltraCraft opened off of the 91 & La Palma & I used to go down there & take pics, clean boats etc. lol And believe it or not, I still have all of those pics in a shoebox lol 🤣

2. Caliber 1 20.6 Magnum. That was when Cliff still had his shop off of Kraemer blvd. I used to go down there after school & look in his showroom. If I’m not mistaken that 20.6 was a Bahner? Their gel coats & interiors on the Caliber’s were awesome!

3. Cole 20.5ss: I loved that small hot rod with a jet! Ellis triple axle low profile trailers & beautiful 7-color gel coats! Then the 22 Superhawk/nighthawk.

Back then, the 235 Carrera Viper & 245 Caliber 1 were like ocean boats lol 😂

I want to say those Ultra 21’s were around $24k w/ a jet & 8-color gel? And I believe a 21ft Commander Conquest was $18995 w/ a jet. I know they used to put their prices inside their boats.

Man, do I miss that era & those style of boats. I often times still find myself going on Mohave CL & searching that era of boats because that’s what I wanted when I was a kid.

The boats today are obviously amazing, but most of them are so unaffordable for the average guy like me, that I’ve just kind of lost interest over the years.

I look at the post of the 95 21ft Howard for 28k, wouldn't of payed that now or then, I didn't think it was a great looking boat. I liked the Cole, buddy ordered one same time I ordered ultra, both nice entry level customs.

about 45-50k today money boats are much higher priced that than

19k in 1991 would be 45 k today
My house was 165k in 1996. Today it’s 850k, with some improvements.

I still own my 1985 21 eliminator close bow since new.
I also had a 1989 21’ Eliminator Monoco open bow, but sold it in 1997.

I’ve never seen my 1989 ever again. 🥲

Ah yes, those notoriously squeaky Hensley trailers. Mine squeaked like a pig being branded.🤣🤣
Had one under my 20.5' jetbote.😊

Cool video. 2 things I noticed…

Lots of shaded bar colors in interiors and gems schemes.

Boat have really evolved much - short of a new led screen or something like that tech related, everything has been done befor.

Lol - everything old is new again!

Big hair and gel fades. 👍

I was hoping to see my 21 Carrera, I thought it was the 1990 show boat.

Great video

We passed a really bitchen pink/ grey 21 LX Ultra with tweed interior on the way home from the river today. The scene sure has changed. Wish builders were still pumping out 21’ boats.

The glitter wake boats or big boring solid color boats just don’t do it for me. Love the multi color fades.

This Advantage is the work of gelcoater Jim Pringle (R.I.P.)
I learned quite a bit from him in the mid 90s, and the guy that taught me in the 80s learned a few things from him too.
@retaocleg learned a thing or two from him as well.
The guy was The Master.

aahhhh yeah, the video started with the 23 Magic Magician with the fiberglass trailer. I think Magic did that for the show boats. I must of had the 1989 show boat with the yellow trim. I was realllly hoping to see it in the video. Awesome post!

that he was.......and such a cheerful fellow
At work he was all business and a grouch.
Outside of work, say at Glamis or even just shooting the shit in his garage, a totally different guy.

My parents had a 92 Advantage banshee, it was white base with all blues but i remember it had the blue fades down the center like this one did.
