It was 1976 when Bob, Greg Shoemaker and Ron Eddle (sp?) when to Long Beach to test this new hull...

The first production boat was delivered 3/19/76...

And I believe it's spelled Ron Ehde?He tooled the plug.

Very cool pics. I wonder where boat 1 is now? Any idea on total number of 19's produced to date. I have a 78. It's been capped and painted with auto paint over the years. Starting a restore now so we are going to strip the paint and see what the original gel colors were.

Kind of funny story,kind of shitty story Bob told me.

Sometime after the 19 was introduced Bob was flipping through a boat magazine and comes across an add for the new Cougar 19,complete with a pic of the boat and a woman in it.
He says "that boat looks just like mine!"
He looks a little closer and says "that girl looks just like my wife"

It was and it was.:yikes

They not only stole his boat design they even stole the picture!

I wish they still offered the original 21 Daytona hull that to me is a timeless classic. I know that sat low in the back (kinda) if you had twins. I remember setting in my friends house in 1986 and there was a new issue of Trailer Boat Magazine Feb or March and on the cover were (2) 21 Daytona's. It was a shoot out article to see which motor was fastest the 3.4 Merc V6 or the 3.6 V8, I could not let go of that magazine I feel in love with those boats and have never been the same since. I still look at all the 21 Daytona's to this day.

It was in the early '90s, according to Isidiro, that they re-tooled the 21' model (with Harlan Orrin)...I've got those dates (somewhere)...:grumble:

If I remember correctly, mine was an 89. I believe that was the first year of the new design. I got mine right after Brent's. The one with the grey marine grade nylon interior that looked like grey burlap. They were totally cutting edge for 89. So much so they are unchanged to today (I think)

I have a cheap copy of a 21 Daytona now. Timeless style, probably get another one before the zebra muscles take over and close everything.

I've got to check the HIN books...Fear says they we're actually were building BOTH models of the 21 up until '92 or '93...
The older style is refer'd to as "The Classic" today...Fear ALSO said that there were a few of the old 21's showing up from Mexico...!?

I don't have any Daytona stories but I have a folder on my computer full of different 19 and 21 Daytonas. I used them to get ideas for re-rigging my 19' Ultra. If you want some, I'll post some.

By the way... Outlaw's boat is bad ass. Widowmaker on here has a two bad ass Daytonas too. A 19 and a 21.

I guess imitation is the highest form of flattery but Bob must have gotten pretty pissed. The 19 is probably one of the most copied boats of all time, Cougar, Blitz, Nordic, and some others, they all made 19's that were clones of the Daytona.

Black boat is not mine, but I came damn close to buying it. 21' V-Drive Daytona.

Yellow 19' is mine. It's a '78 . MPD pump. Bennet was the last person to do the bottom. Tom Papp had his hands on it as well. Paint has a signature by "Brink". Will be building a large blower motor for it when I can.

Outboards are for bass boats and v-drive = trailer queen.

83 Eliminator 21? Daytona ?Hazardous Waste?

After a 2 year ground up restoration of an 18 foot vbottom jet, there was something left to be desired. That something was comfort, ride quality, and drivability. Being a part of the jet boating community for quite some time my father, John Rork, and I have been lucky enough to meet and call many fantastic people our friends. The jet boating community is a tight knit group of people and whenever you?re looking for something particular, odds are one of these friends might have what you?re looking for. In this case, our friend Jeff from California had saved a ratty old 1983 Eliminator 21? Daytona with an outboard, from a storage lot. He had plans for the boat that never materialized and the game was on. My father and I began pestering Jeff to sell the boat, and finally after more than a year of nagging, he had a momentary lapse of judgment and agreed to sell the boat. In October of 2011, a 2000 mile round trip drive was made to pick up the boat. It became obvious this was no ordinary 21? Daytona, as it was extremely light weighing in at 691 pounds. The boat had a huge 300 Mercury outboard and had a skid fin bolted to the outside wall of the left tunnel. To this day, the original history of this boat has not been found.

The boat was in rough shape, with delaminated stringers and chalky faded gelcoat but all in all, it was the perfect platform to build upon. The boat was stripped and the restoration began. First came new stringers and bulkheads, while refinishing the original floors. The transom was filled of nearly 50 holes, and regelcoated. The floor was cut and a Berkeley intake was set in the boat. Now that the boat was officially a jetboat, we began rigging the boat from scratch and installing the 500? blown gas Chevrolet built by Barry Obler at Obnoxious Racing Engines. Countless hours were spent bringing the original gel back to life. The boat was completed 2 years after purchase and its first time on the water was for the Puget Sound Performance Boats Rendezvous, in Bremerton Washington. At the show, we were awarded the ?Spirit of Performance Boating? trophy for our diehard thrashing to get the boat done for the rendezvous. This was the perfect culmination of 2 years of hard work, as a father and son team in the family garage at home. Our blood, sweat, and tears went into this boat along with countless bonding memories with my father. In the past year that the boat has been done, my mother and father have enjoyed many evening cruises, something that was a rare occasion in their previous jet boat. That alone is a testament to the comfort and ride of the 21 foot Daytona. This boat will serve as the family hotrod for MANY years to come. Thanks goes out to Jeff for selling the boat, Jade Claar for the interior, Brian Wright for the jet pump, Jeremie Robinson for the jet intake, Tony Skagen at Skagen boats for the jet pump assembly, Chris Starkweather at B1Racing for tuneup and hardware consulting as well as countless other friends for keeping us motivated! Also a huge thank you goes out to Eliminator Custom Boats for building safe H2O hotrods for decades, supplying this sport that we all love with thousands of fantastic boats.

It's typical to see thru/transom exhaust on a 21. The 21' is a "family boat".

- My mom passed on 7/7/07
- My dad passed on 1/1/11
- I got married on 7/11/11
- My moms license plate for nearly 40 years was "NO-711"

So much of my life has revolved around the numbers 7 and 11.

Pretty sure this boat was meant to end up with me.
