You know the make things called gloves?

I have never been able to work with gloves on. Especially when doing this, stripping, wire brush and finish with 1000 grit. The chems I'm using would probably melt latex/nitrile to my hands anyway.🤷🏻‍♂️

I have never been accused of doing shit the "right way". But I have been accused of just getting shit done🤦‍♂️

Fuck dude!😳

I don’t envy “the peel” your hands are going to be doing the next few days.

A dead guy floating a few days doesn’t look as bad as your fingers.Get some gloves, man!!

They will be fine.. maybe remove some of the calluses😜🤣🤣

It is the "Old City Hall" my boss bought and I am turning it into a boutique motel. This is all the hardware for the windows and nobody would touch it. Well fuk, I'm dumb enough to say, "hell I can do it"🤦‍♂️

@JUSTWANNARACE , a trick I learned working on my brother's 100yo house with hardware that had been painted...a lot: thrift store crock pot on low, all the hardware you can fit, then fill with whatever cheap cola you can find. In 5-6 hours, all the paint and oxidation wipe off.

Really made me wonder about cola though

Used to clean my brass Ping irons with Coke, works wonders.

I tried cola, but no dice(not in a "crockpot though"). Not sure if it's the lead paint or what but it took 2 days and still a ton of work. They have probably 5 layers of paint on them. This stuff I soak for 2-3hrs and spray it off with a hose. Clean up threads and and pins with a brass brush and hit the surfaces with some 1000g. Seems to be the quickest route for me.

Nice work on the brass.

Hoping you & the crew wore masks/respirators doing the blasting & painting.

Doing great work is one thing. You got that handled. Killing your self slowly is another.

Take care of your self first so you can continue to do great work.

I think it’s great that you are restoring the original hardware! It will probably last another hundred years and is better quality than the Chinese crap everyone sells today!

This is the main reasons I'm doing it. The hinges, They are all hand machined from solid brass, steel inserts for the hinge pins. Latches and latch hooks casted from brass. Each set individually #ed. Great hardware, that will never be created again. Honestly pretty fulfilling restoring shit that was going to end up in a landfill..

My whole crew is "lead certified".. I'm the only idiot that doesn't worry about that stuff. But I require them to be legit and respirator up, tyvek suits, ect, when necessary.

Ohh and my dustless blasting guy, but he says "it's all good"🤣 the water shields the lead🤣

I remember when the concrete guys would spray coke on a fresh pour to expose the aggragate in the driveway or walks. This job in Salem?

These windows were all block filled with CMU. Knocked out the CMU and found they still had the old windows..

Well hell let's restore those too. Have to build a complete one because it was removed to put in a door at some point. Door is gone so framed it in to install the original style window we are building.

What's the budget on the restoration?

Looks great hopefully it's profitable in the long run.

The budget? It's a cash burn investment off his other properties. We are doing the majority "in-house" little subs as possible. My goal it to keep it around $4m. As we are putting in an elevator and alot of fancy stuff.🤦‍♂️ if it doesnt work as a boutique Hotel it will just be swapped to apartments.

Will you apply a clear coat to the brass to keep it shiny for a while? Or is the natural patina gonna be the plan?

When I first started using them, it was a Royal pain in the azz!!! Hated it, but eventually, I got Real used to wearing them.

It's nice to be finished with a dirty job, and not have to go wash your hands just to write something down.

Some jobs go a lot quicker, once you Force yourself to get used to em.

Building looks amazing. Nice work! 👍🏼👍🏼

… looks like your restoration job is going to turn out simply amazing… This is how it was in a late 60s …anybody that could take on the restoration of an old house even if it was a rental went for it… This kind of deal was just how it was back in the hippie era👍
