Emotional morning for me’: Canucks’ Boeser describes season-ending injury

Sportsnet StaffMay 23, 2024, 3:35 PM
With 12 points in 12 games in the post-season and arguably the Vancouver Canucks‘ best forward of the playoffs, the loss of Brock Boeser for Game 7 against the Edmonton Oilers as a result of a blood-clotting issue was a big one.
At the team’s end-of-season availability, the 27-year-old forward delved into the issue and how he dealt with the news.
“Took a shot (in) Game 1 on the power play, had a bruise there. My leg was feeling fine, then about a week later, my calf started really hurting,” Boeser explained. “We got it checked out and I had some, I think a clot in one of my small veins, which wasn’t an issue, so I was allowed to continue to play. I got a scan the next morning after Game 6 that showed there was more clotting that moved into my deep vein.
“I didn’t really understand at first, so it was an emotional morning for me. To get told that news after you’re giving all your energy with your teammates and these playoffs and really striving and pushing for the ultimate goal, to get that swept out from under you, to not be out there in Game 7 with these guys … that hurt.”
Boeser was a consistent goal scorer for the Canucks both in the regular season and the playoffs. In 82 games, he scored 40 goals and 33 assists for a career-high 73 points. He added seven goals in the playoffs, including a hat trick in Game 4 against the Nashville Predators to force an eventually successful overtime.

“I’m crushed,” Boeser admitted about being sidelined for Game 7. “I wish I could have been out there with the guys. Obviously, one-goal game, I felt that, of course I’m sitting there saying, ‘Yeah, I could have scored in this game.’ I don’t know what would have happened if I played, but I would have done anything to be out there. I asked if I could play, try to push them, but obviously the risks are too big and I had to protect my future.”
Playing primarily with J.T. Miller throughout the post-season, Boeser averaged over 20 minutes per game and played in all situations, including in a match-up role against Connor McDavid in Round 2.
“It just proves to myself that there’s another level there. I know at least my line, we took a ton of pride when we were playing against Connor in the playoffs to try to shut it down … even top lines throughout the year,” Boeser said. “It’s a role I haven’t really had before and I tried to embrace it as best as I could, and just to feel that we can go out there and we can shut down those top guys, it gives a lot to my confidence and it’s something I definitely think I can build off of for next year.”
Boeser is eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1. He becomes an unrestricted free agent after the 2024-25 season.

Update: I was told by someone with ties to YCSO, the gentleman suffered a cardiac arrest.

Today, Prescott Valley, County fire and a large grouping of Deputies (here, off duty bring their cars home) escorted a hearse from the ME's office to the funeral home. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Yesterday was his memorial. LE from far and wide came into town. It was playing on a live feed in the Sheriff's station, for those that had to be on shift. My daughter was working there, and said the place was notably "down".

Deputy Hubble was also a youth soccer coach for his daughters, as well as an assistant football coach for Chino Valley High School. A good man, serving both LE and the youth of the area, after already serving his country. Not a star athlete in the news, but an actual real human. Many will truly feel his loss.

Professional golfer Grayson Murray dies at age 30

May 25, 2024, 03:35 PM

Professional golfer Grayson Murray, who won the Sony Open earlier this year in Hawaii, has died, the PGA Tour announced on Saturday.
Murray, 30, withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge on Friday citing an illness.
"We were devastated to learn -- and are heartbroken to share -- that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words," PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. "The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones."
"I reached out to Grayson's parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play," Monahan continued. "They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes."
The tour announced that grief counselors would be available at the Colonial and the Visit Knoxville Open on the Korn Ferry Tour, where Murray made his first cut at the age of 16.
Murray picked up his first PGA Tour title in 2017 winning the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky at the age of 24.

up date..

'We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you who are reading this,' they went on.

'We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support. Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.'

I don't think that's any better or worse. I think it's possibly more saddening, because this was preventable to some extent.

My neighbor passed today at 57, she has been having a lot of health issues over the last 12 months that were very sudden onset and out of left field.

I never talked politics with her in depth but she walked just to the left of the line if not on the line. She was a teacher that was obviously forced to get the jab to keep her job.

We lost a great neighbor today, she will be missed.

As I've said, lots of people didn't get the jab for political reasons. Many thought it was for their best interests or for those they cared about. When my Mom was sick, if she'd have asked me to get it, I probably would have. Her being of that age, may have had elderly family. Sadly, we were all lied to.

In the case of Kansas vs Pfizer, Kansas health officials reported a 50% adverse reaction rate among pregnant women and a 10% miscarriage rate. In any other drug a .01% adverse reaction rate demanded a drug be pulled from the market. Then we find out that in October of 2020, they reported a huge amount of death and miscarriages in rats.

These FUC#ERS need to be shot!

Wow, very sad to see and hard to watch him struggle like that. It took them awhile to realize the severity of the situation and respond accordingly. Seems these athletic associations are not up on the severity of these type events and fully prepared, anticipating this type of issue.
The cover up & general denial is still real despite what so many doctors are now reporting from repeated findings in their practices.

I hope they are doing autopsies on these young people who have died of heart attacks to find out why they had these and publish the results for all to see.

Don't know if this fits here or not? This is one of the line coaches for our local IFL team. He's a local, 3rd generation football coach up here. Played for Oregon I believe. He's a year younger than me, and has young kids at home. Prognosis is not good from what I've heard. Don't know Vax status, but seemed to be in pretty decent shape.

Update: Dave passed away about an hour ago.
