Added a 5th Squarebody to the collection. I justified this one to my wife by saying it was hers lol. I gotta quit buying these trucks but I couldn’t say no to this one.

1978 Chevy Cheyanne, factory shortbed, factory A/C, 350 C.I. V8, TH-350 automatic, dual tanks, original California truck assembled at Fremont plant

needs some minor things but it’s all there. I’m stoked on it and can’t wait to get it dialed in……for her

I don’t have a lot, here’s one of my other shortbed fleetside and my two full convertible K5’s that I plan on building with my two sons and passing onto them. I also have a longbed fleetside that was my dads and we all grew up driving

You are as bad as I am. Two k5’s, three crew cabs, a short bed and a long bed 1/2 ton. Nice find on that.
Yea you are a sick bastard just like me when it comes to them.

forgot to mention how it all went down.

Been looking for another truck for a bit now. Last week found this one on Facebook. Talked to the guy on Sunday, talked to my wife on Monday about it, she gave me the green light.

Caught a flight out of san diego to Sacramento on Saturday. Drove to the guys house, looked at the truck, did the paperwork, and paid him. At the same time I had transport show up and get the truck loaded. Was there maybe a little over an hour before I hauled ass back to the airport and caught a flight back home. Made it back in time for dinner and to tuck my boys into bed. Truck was delivered at 8:30 this morning.

did the same thing when I bought one of my K5’s in Colorado. I love doing that kind of shit.

Nice little stepper. It looks to have the same factory, colonial yellow as my other short bed. 77,78, or 79?
my wife wants to build a truck but likes the 68-72 style but those are crazy priced. I always loved the look of the square bodies. if we wanted to make one custom (bags, c notch, shaved handles, etc) what would you suggest we look for year wise etc?

I was also looking at 67-72 body style as I had two short bed fleetsides when I was younger. Like you pointed out prices for absolute shit boxes are through the roof and it just wasn’t worth it to me. Especially because I have so many square body parts.

to answer your question for the most part mechanically, everything‘s gonna be the same from 73 through 87 With the exception of fuel injection, overdrive transmissions, and power options on the newer models. If you’re gonna do one that’s more custom and shaved up people tend to like the 81 through 87 trucks with the sloped front end and newer style interior. I’m more of a 73 through 80 Guy myself. These are referred to as round eye squares.

Pricewise you’re gonna see the 73 through 75 models go for about 6-10 grand minimum more on average than 76 through 80 simply because of the smog exemption here in California. Then price is kind of flattens out all the way up to maybe around 83? Then you’ll start to see the prices go back up because people want the trucks that were close to the tail end of the production run and have all the options that I said earlier. 79 had some of the highest production numbers out of all the years so those are readily available and tend to drive the price down a little bit more. At the end of the day if you see a truck that you like for a good price Grab it. The value on them is only going up.

Air conditioning and power steering were options every year. Power lock and windows didn’t come on until I believe 77-78. But the aftermarket has made all that stuff easily added, the aftermarket AC systems now are so much cleaner than the factory ones and some of the power lock window set ups look exactly like factory setups
