I just sold my 05 Duramax as it had a service body and momma wants a 5er, so I get a new truck and have been doing some research. All the brands will have horror storie. For the most part all mfg have the emissions deal figured out and I consider all equal. The Duramax and PS engine is a better platform than the Cummins since they went to roller lifers in 2019. The Duramax and PS 10 speeds transmissions are VERY similar as this transmission was built as a joint venture between Ford and GM, don't be fooled the the "Allison" branding, it's only "Allison" approved and GM seems to have more issues, mostly valve body related. The new ZF transmission that's coming in the 25 Rams is supposed to be a proven unit that's currently used in many other applications and a major upgrade over the 68rfe. Interior wise, I rank Chevrolet last in comfort as IMO the seats are too hard, even though I love the looks and technology in the truck, the seats just aren't comfortable to me, Ram would be 2nd and Ford leads the way for me. Ride quality, the GM will be the most car like with independent front suspension with Ram and Ford being 2 and 2A. All trucks are capable of pulling anything you want. For me the Ford is the best all around option, but I think most of it is personal preference. Go drive all 3 and pick your favorite flavor.

The majority of the trucks i have owned were 3/4t or 1t and seen more dune time then most.

I was born in coos bay and lived from Winchester Bay to North Bend with the majority of the time I lived in Hauser. Actually just sold the 18 achers I grew up on in Hauser 2 years ago.

But yes stupid people behind the wheel that came from "the city" with more $ then brains was mostly the issue. I was just making comment to the "pussy CV" comment cause I know you are a Ford guy🤣 but definitely true I seen more ford break them chevys🤣

They are weak, and we both know it. 😜

It can be fixed though...

Chebby uses those pussy CV front ends. As previously mentioned, a CV will always turn tighter than a real front end, so no surprise that the Chebby turns tighter than Ford or a Dodge. All other things being equal of course. ;)


Not sure what front end is on my Ford. But I can tell you that it doesn't handle the weight as well as my Chevy when it comes to the chassis. Both are loaded down to the gvwr. 10,500 for the Ford 13k for the chevy.

But those are not comps to what he is looking to buy. You probably have not been in a new Chevy is my guess.

What he is shopping for is a luxury 3/4 ton. All those old trucks your referring to are not comparable. I have 4 Chevys none are comparable.

I am looking to buy a new 3/4 ton. If my budget allowed I would looking at the trim options I posted. I have been pricing all of them. The comparable F250 and GMC are around 10k more than the Chevy. The way the options go as I want leather. Have not considered dodge but did look at the price cause of this thread and was surprised a limited is 113k.

My older GMC 2500HD Short Bed, Extra Cab has a terrible turning radius. My crew cab, long bed Fords had a much better turning radius. I have not driven a new Chevy / GMC, so maybe that has been improved.

I have had 4 different IFS chevys and not one CV issue so I guess I dont "know it"🤷🏻‍♂️

My '04 did break the crank around 330k but never a CV issue. Never had to replace them either. Matter of fact the guy I sold it to put a jasper engine in it and it still has the same CV's. Not sure how many miles he has on it🤔

I have never broken a CV on my Chevys…1500 or 2500… 1999 Tahoe, 2002 GMC 2500, 2006 Tahoe, 2016 Tahoe, 2022 1500, 2016 GMC 2500, all 4x4s.

But I do my best to take care of my stuff and not thrash things.

When the cheesy alum front diff pops what a mess flips front driveshaft up against oil cooler lines breaking bolts in the block spewing oil , more diff snapping than CV blowing

OK guys. I know this is a can of worms loaded question with 1000 different answers but I’m gonna put it out there.
I’ve owned Ford diesel trucks. Dodge diesel trucks. And many Chevy gas trucks.
Currently have 2 F150 Platinum Hybrids that I love. (1 in MT and 1 in AZ ) But feeling the need for a bigger tow vehicle in AZ.
I want something as short as possible, as maneuverable as possible, wishing that it was the size of my crew cab short bed F150.

Who builds the shortest overall length three-quarter ton crew cab? Really hard to get a solid information on that. Reading 231.8 inches ?

Best parking/turning radius , best Towing. smoothest ride, I Really like my massaging seats.

RAM makes the shortest crew cab short bed. I know because my new fucking house has the worst garage ever, so short. The RAM was the shortest by a couple inches, I just make it in. So I went with a 1 ton RAM, do love the truck.

Not very often anymore. We kind of gave up when the newer faster sxs came out and anyone could go finance one and play Robbie Gordon in the dunes.

Pros and cons on both. Going to look at these today or tomorrow and make a decision. Both have lots of advantages over the other, but at the end they’re both awesome trucks.

Eliminating Ram because of my local service people aren’t the most favorable.


Really bummed that Ford got away from there keypad entry on the driver’s door on all vehicles that they’ve been doing for so many years. I lived by that. Especially at the launch ramp love leaving my keys in the truck that way if something fails up or down the river on the boat I can make a phone call and get my tow rig brought to me. Such an advantage.

The 2024 limited still has that.

I don’t see a need for the key pad really. The Ford app allows you to unlock and auto start from anywhere.

You can go wrong with any of those trucks.

Hopefully they started painting under the hoods on Fords, drives me crazy every time I open hood lol.

FYI; the f 250 has a heavy duty option and I recall it’s different front springs and includes a 1 ton rear end. If you need it take a look at it. It’s one of the options. Also, if you get afford papers anyway you can get it have the auxiliary cabin heat it’s electric and it’s automatic.
It may take 10 minutes that diesel heat up this thing gets a cabin warm in about three minutes.

And you don’t need a keypad when you get within about 50 feet of the truck the floor the lights come on the floorboards automatically extend get your hand near the handle and it completely unlocks.

You mean like onstar that even my 12 had. Until 5g came and they killed the old 2g network. Now my onstar is useless. My suburban has the 4g. Still have the app.

Times are tough , Ford made the tailgate heater an option now also , they also offer a wingnut kit to replace the standard cab bolts:p

I would drive them both. I was gonna buy a new truck last year and these were the same two trucks I was focused on. I was not impressed with the power of the GMC at all. Ultimately, I decided to keep my 2019 f250 platinum.

Ford uses its own app, Ford Pass, I have 3 Fords on it. Works well, dines most everything.

App still exists. Depends on age of vehicle and what signal the vehicle receives. Mine is to old carriers got rid of that signal..my suburban uses the same app. But the vehicle itself receives 4g signal. Thats why it still works and my truck doesn't. Same exact app.

Good morning. Decided on a 2024 F250 Limited. There was one left that still had the keypad entry and the deal was right.

After driving both that and the Denali ultimate the 3500 rear leaf spring option that is pretty standard in the Denali really killed the ride. The front ride is beautiful, but the rear is just brutal so you’d have to drop the spring and put in airbags to make it work. I’m not modifying it.

Also, just the overall feel of the Ford was like being home. I’m so used to it.
And the power kicks ass no doubt about the difference. It’s noticeable.

Both awesome trucks, but the Ford is the one that is more right for me.

Bought a ‘24 GMC 2500 Ultimate 1.5 years ago. You don’t want to know what the OTD price was, never thought I’d buy a truck over $100K. Been a great truck so far. 15K miles now.

I’ve had Chevy and GM trucks my whole life. Various versions and a bunch of Duramax / Allison’s. I love em. But I borrowed a buddies 2020ish F350 to tow the boat to lake once. Lifted on 37’s I think. Grey 4X4. I gotta say, that trans and power was unreal. Shifting so smooth you cannt even feel it. Yanking 12k plus payload like nothing was back there’s. I couldn’t get over it. Unreal
