I purposely started a new thread on this subject, so the important info doesn't get lost in the previous one, so sit the fuck down, Vin.

New info on the implementation timeline. Straight from the NEW AND IMPROVED IRS.

WHEN WILL A PERSON SEE THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT INCREASE BECAUSE OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY FAIRNESS ACT?

Starting the week of February 24, 2025, SSA is beginning to pay retroactive benefits and will increase monthly benefit payments to people whose benefits have been affected by the WEP and GPO.

If a beneficiary is due retroactive benefits as a result of the Act, they will receive a one-time retroactive payment, deposited into the bank account SSA has on file, by the end of March. This retroactive payment will cover the increase in their benefit amount back to January 2024, the month when WEP and GPO no longer apply.

Social Security benefits are paid one month behind. Most affected beneficiaries will begin receiving their new monthly benefit amount in April 2025 (for their March 2025 benefit).

Anyone whose monthly benefit is adjusted, or who will get a retroactive payment, will receive a mailed notice from Social Security explaining the benefit change or retroactive payment.

NOTE: A beneficiary may receive two mailed notices, the first when WEP or GPO is removed from their record, and a second when their monthly benefit amount is adjusted for their new monthly payment amount. They may receive the retroactive payment before receiving the mailed notice.

We have been able to expedite payments due to the use of automation. For the many complex cases that cannot be processed automatically, additional time is required to manually update the records and pay both retroactive benefits and the new benefits amount.

We urge beneficiaries to wait until April to inquire about the status of their retroactive payment, since these payments will process incrementally throughout March.

Beneficiaries should also wait until after receiving their April payment before contacting SSA to ask about their monthly benefit amount because the new amount will not be reflected until April for their March payment.

What is the social security fairness act? I'm a decade away from stuff like this becoming reality for me but know there is a decent population of retired folk on RDP. Can we get the cliff notes on this?

3.2 million retirees (police, teachers and some state employees) who received CalPERS and CalSTRS pensions, were unfairly marked to receive only of a portion of their Social Security retirement benefits, because the law makers believed we already received a premium pension. President Bidone signed a 'Fairness Act', so we now receive what was owed to us in the first place. Having been retired for 14 years, this act helps, but I'm still at a $75k loss I'll never receive.
Yeah, this is only a Cliff Notes version.

To amplify what Jeeper posted, this restores the amount of our SS that we SHOULD have received, but didn't due to the WEP and GPO. If you haven't yet collected or applied for SS benefits (or survivor benefits) it has zero affect on you. Plus, if you didn't have a Govt job where you DID NOT pay into SS and had some other retirement plan, it wouldn't have affected you in the first place, and there's nothing that you need to be bothered with.

Anyone who is currently working in Public Service, not paying into SS and paying into another plan (CALPERS, AZ PSPRS, etc), the WEP/GPO will be scratched from your record and you should get your full amount from the start. Providing that you worked enough in a SS job to qualify SS to begin with.

OK, moving forward:

The letter from Social Security ended with "What you need to do:"

"Verify your information and update anything that has changed"
it says.

So, in the thought that they may also want responses to insure you are still alive like Musk has stated in the press conferences, I logged into my online Social Security account to if anything, show activity. A pulse as Elon has stated.

Right there with you but I’m only going up $167.00. As I had 27 years in SS before we switched to Safety. I will get a decent retro check though.
