We recently lost Pat Minegar. 😓 Pat was a top shelf individual in my book and boy could he sing! Here's a small tribute to a great guy! For those not in the know Pat is one of Rattle Can Lou's brothers. Wishing the Minegar family strength and love for their loss.

RCL passed!? No shit!? I never met him in person, but we talked on the phone a bunch when I was messing with the hydro. Great guy in my book! Sucks to hear he passed!

Aww Jerry!
Trying to tug on my heart strings with the Litchfield.
I looked at that same boat 15 years ago sitting out in a field in another town.
It actually doesn’t look much different!😂

Gotta be worth a grand especially with that v-drive sitting in there.

Hey Clank, The Hondo Super Mouse is for sale.
View attachment 1471836
I got 4 text’s yesterday about that boat!
It would be cool to restore for sure.
15 or so years ago it was owned by that fella that used to put out that vdrive newsletter that went out monthly out of Northern California. He also put on the Bass Lake Event for years.
Can’t remember his name for some reason.
I talked with him when he bought it.
While a cool hull, I just don’t think it really has much history other than Hondo gelled it the Panic Mouse colors and put the 007 number on it.
I don’t believe Caselli ever raced it.
As far as the Sicilian Bandit, I’ve searched for a picture of it and can only find the mid sixties version.
Be great to see a picture of it with a blown gas engine in it.
I’m guessing he doesn’t have the wrap around windshield for it either?
Be cool to have.
These are the only two pictures I’ve seen of it in the water it had the injected Pontiac in it and the driver is not Rapid Raymond.

PS…speaking of Pontiacs…I have a 1968 GTO coded standard 400 block and Crank I would like to get rid of (maybe you know a Pontiac car guy?) as well as a set of Hilborns like the ones pictured with pump and front cover…sorry for the spam!😂

You're talking about Brian Lynch. Send me photos of the 400 and a price and I'll let the Pontiac club up here know about it.

So I found 3 pictures of the Sicilian Bandit.
One from the early to mid 60’s, one from later 60’s and one from 1975.
Seems to be quite a gap.
How could there not be an early 70’s picture and could it have been the Super Mouse?
First two pictures at Ski-Land, 3rd looks like Lake Ming.

The bottom photo of the orange boat is a later hull for sure.
Pretty sure that’s a Hondo.
Got me thinking about the Super Mouse.
I’m thinking that boat is on the small side(I’ve read they made a 17’10” hydro back then).
Kinda like a Sanger Junior Hydro that was built for the Unblown Classes.

Stopped out to see Harlan Orrin yesterday.
He and I have been talking about recreating this boat for years.
Last few months he decided to move forward with it.
The boat was Red Wilson’s mid fifties E boat called Slipper.
It’s a cut down AquaCraft that will get a wood deck and cowling with an injected DeSoto Hemi between the stringers.
It will run a vdrive as originally built.
When the hull is done I will rig it with all period correct parts.
Yesterday we set the engine placement and cockpit up so he’ll know where to build the cowling.
For 89 years old it’s amazing what he can still do and always great to work with him.

Where in the hell did you find that?
Started out as a mid 60’s Aqua Craft.
Harlan cut 12 inches of freeboard off it and built the sub-deck.
The entire top of the boat will be red mahogany.
By cutting a foot off down the side the boat is only 16 feet long now.
There were 4 or 5 of this style running in the E boat class up into the 60’s.
Gonna be a one-off for sure.

The most successful of this style of E boat was Wes Knudsen’s “Stardust”
He ran the boat all the way to the mid 70’s.
I was at a few races that he ran in Long Beach and San Diego.
Can’t wait to get this one finished and drive it!!

Isn't Stardust up in Washington somewhere?
I know it was at a museum in Lake Tahoe for a few years.
Maybe it’s in the Unlimited Hydroplane Museum in Washington?
I’ve never been, but will be up there in March for work so hopefully then.

Hondo Sprint Saturday!
Now that I’m restoring one, got some shots sent to me of a couple old school
K sprints.
First ones are of the Withers and Primm boat that went out and set the Kilo record at Parker.
Boat was driven by Mike Brendel.
Few interesting points about the pictures.
First one he is heading back to the trailer after not being allowed to make an attempt at the Kilo.
Note his helmet…he wore his drag race helmet…it was not the APBA required Orange helmet so they made him return to the trailer and get a proper helmet(second picture and Ad)
Secondly…note his hand positioning on the steering wheel during the kilo attempt. The day before he slipped and fell and sprained his wrist. Couldn’t hold on the the wheel. He drove the Kilo basically one handed….what a stud!
Last picture…for those of you that know him, the young kid standing to the right in the picture is a young Bob Adams who was on the Withers and Primm crew.

The next two shots are of the great George Woods driving the Can Am Express up in the Pacific Northwest.
He set both the APBA Kilo Record and the 5 mile closed course record with this Hondo Sprint.
Note the rigging.
All the Sprints were rigged like a drag boat with simple engine rails and inside stringer steering.

My 75’ Hondo Sprint, it was formerly Mike P (Rum Runner) circle race boat before he got the black DeCucci
Mike painted it & helped me fully restore it

Turned out great!
I might come down and get a few measurements.
I did some machining on the transom bar and a few other parts for Mike when he switched to the center plate.
Didn’t keep any of the numbers though.
Also, need to call your Dad and find out where he got the Injector Ram Tubes done on the Litchfield, been a few years now since it was built…I know he told me.
Always liked them and would like to do the same on a project I have going.
