New York Time is listing the 5 deceased as

Kobe Bryant
Gigi Bryant (Age 13)
Gigi Bryant's teammate (Also 13)
Unknown Teammate's Parent
& Pilot

Truly a tragedy. Especially with the kids involved.

CFIT. Photos show visibility at the crash site less than 1/4 mile, METAR/TAF (a shorthand current weather statement) confirms.

I was hoping it wasn't true. But, it is being reported as such. So sad.

Sad deal. Was just talking with my Dad about it. He said he flew 117 days in a chopper in Vietnam war about 200 flights. The Vietnamese would sneak in and burn the choppers and he said you could sweep up the ashes and fill 2 55 gallon drums as that was all that was left.

Some of the most memorable moments in my life were from Kobe Bryant. The times I used to record the games during my night classes in college and made sure I didn’t talk to anyone or listen to the radio on my way home so I didn’t know the outcome of the game.

The times I spent with my wife watching the games and when they would lose, she knew not to talk to me till the next morning because I would be so mad.

He was a big part of my life growing up and was practically a superhero to me and many of my friends during that time in our lives.

When the game was on the line and there was no hope.....I didn’t feel that way when Kobe was on the team. There was always a chance.

Rest In Peace Kobe. Thanks for the memories. [emoji22]

Just heard John Altobelli, OCC baseball coach and daughter were other victims. My son's JC played them on numerous occasions including the playoffs and he ran a hell of a good program.

Apparently he was flying to Mamba sports academy in Thousand Oaks where his wife and kids were waiting on them. Update just stated per the manifest there were 8 souls on board

Supposedly it was a Sikorsky S-76, thats a very large, Helio with 2 turbines. I want to say the coast guard versions had a 12k# capacity and were like 7k dry.

Now they are saying there were 9 people on board, I was thinking its not a small helicopter. Does S-76 hold 9 total in business configuration?

Baja Mike, yes, it can.

The pilot of 2EX (Bryant's helicopter) was advised to hold outside the Burbank Class C, or tower control area, and that Burbank and Van Nuys airports were operating under instrument conditions. The pilot requested a Special VFR clearance, which acknowledges IFR conditions exist in the immediate flight area and that the pilot will stay clear of them while manuevering.

A SVFR clearance is not uncommon for helicopters, because they have the ability to remain VFR more easily than an aircraft flying over 100 miles an hour. The pilot was following the Ventura freeway, and about the same time the ATC conversation discussed the subject of Class C and SVFR, the helicopter turned, left the freeway track, flew toward rising terrain, and crashed moments later.

Thankfully this shit didn't happen next Sunday, Right now CBS can suck my.....!!!
Fuckin networks have to get "the scoop" and almost 100% of the time get the story completely wrong.
So to the heads of the networks, "Thanks for cutting away from the golf so you could stroke your dicks and feed us full of bullshit hearsay". I seriously hope Jim Nantz said "fuck it" during the second interruption of his broadcast and bailed.
Rip Kobe, it sucks the all knowing news has to be there first instead of waiting for the truth.

tx fr posting the link to radio

Sounds like they were flying in IFR conditions and ran into the hill - that's something to listen to them right up until the last call for them.

Foggy up there pretty thick this morning. Maybe the cause.
I've been a passenger on that model. Lots of vibration is what I remember most.

The crash site right on the hiking trail will be a pilgrimage spot.
Authorities are already chasing people away being directed to a local park.

Sad Sad Day here in Nrpt Bch.... Didn't really care for his vibe as a player [I'm more of a Shaq lover] however it appeared to us locals that he'd matured these past several years into a committed husband and super dad to the girls.

Kobe just received a well deserved Academy Award this past Oscars. Not much scandal beyond the Kobe Dick incident.

"MSNBC Anchor Denies Using N-Word During Kobe Bryant Report
MSNBC anchor Alison Morris responded to a viral video on Sunday, trying to explain a vocal flub during a report on the death of former NBA star Kobe Bryant that many on social media took to be the N-word.

Not long after the news of Bryant’s death in a helicopter crash broke, Morris told MSNBC viewers that Bryant was “perfectly cast” on the Los Angeles Lakers, except she stumbled over the name of the team. Many believe Morris uttered the N-word but she said that is simply not the case.

“Earlier today, while reporting on the tragic news of Kobe Bryant’s passing, I unfortunately stuttered on air, combining the names of the Knicks and the Lakers to say ‘Nakers,'” Morris tweeted later on Sunday. “Please know I did not & would NEVER use a racist term. I apologize for the confusion this caused."

Seems pilot following 101 to Camarillo Airport, some reason turned South into mountainous area.

“L.A. weather was extremely foggy Sunday morning, and law enforcement sources tell us even LAPD air support was grounded because of it. Flight tracker data shows Kobe’s chopper appeared to first encounter weather issues as it was above the L.A. Zoo. It circled that area at least 6 times at a very low altitude – around 875 feet – perhaps waiting for the fog to clear. We know the pilot contacted the control tower at Burbank Airport around 9:30 AM PT, and the tower was aware the pilot had been circling for about 15 minutes. The pilot eventually headed north along the 118 freeway before turning to the west, and started following above the 101 freeway around Woodland Hills, CA. At around 9:40 AM they encounter more weather – as in seriously heavy fog – and the chopper turned south. This was critical, because they turned toward a mountainous area. The pilot suddenly and rapidly climbed from about 1200 feet up to 2000 feet. However, moments later – around 9:45 AM – they flew into a mountain at 1700 feet. Flight tracker data shows they were flying at about 161 knots.”

If a reaction was what you were looking for, here it is; FUCK you and your black heart. God forbid it was you and your child that perished, what would people have to say about your perfect life? RIP 24.

My point is that as sad as it is, media is all about Kobe, meanwhile, he is one of 9 that passed. Minors and others perished...…..He is no larger than you or me....

Including a high school junior in my daughters class that lost her entire family - mom, dad and younger sister. It is absolutely numbing to even think of it.

No. If you pass a handful of people will give a shit. Kobe touched millions of lives. People follow sports, watch games, and consume themselves with the stars of the games. The news isn’t running stories about you after you die because you didn’t achieve greatness and touch millions of people like he did. [emoji849]

Again, situation sucks.... Media doesn't mention the non NBA deaths, all about some dude that played BKB. 8 others, including kids died. But poor Kobe, as if he is better than rest of us....He did sexually assault a female while on the road while he was married.....Sorry if that make u mad. This is coming from a Laker fan with an autographed Jabbar photo.....

Maybe wait to drop your bullshit on, oh I don't know....NOT ON THE DAY HE DIED!I

You can't possible be that numb to the day
