I ordered a 12x24’ portable garage through Home Depot, made by Shelterlogic, for the boat…tired of it getting all fucked up.

Came in Friday, so I picked it up…started putting it together this morning.

No fewer that 15 misdrilled holes, and wrong instructions. Spent 45 minutes on hold…then they sent me different wrong instructions. Get the frame all together after fucking with it for 3 hours…and the fabric top is if the wrong size. Call back, manufacturer blames it on Home Depot. Call Home Depot, they blame it on manufacturer. Shelterlogic said they could send me the right cover, but it would be at least a month. Nope, sorry, fuck right off with that.

Total time invested:

Assembly and rework: 3 hours
On hold: 3 hours
Tear down w/sawzall to return: 15m
Trip to HD: 10m

HD and Shelterlogic can hash it out…I’m done.

26x12 tarp and bag of bungees, $60.

I had a customer in England who had a problem with a caliper I sent…my fault, sent the wrong side. I overnighted him the correct one, even though he said I didn’t need to. Cost a pretty penny, but it’s how it should be done. A fucking month for something like this?

Buckle up, it's going to get worse before it gets better....

Does not matter who, even very large companies I have had a solid relationship with for 20+ years have become undependable.

Wrong part, left instead of right, wrong brand, mislabeled, stock shows 2, there was only one-no call just ship the one and fuck me....

They are trying, I've had 3 different account managers in the last year, the latest one at least calls when there is a stock/shortage issue or a delay due to traffic etc.

I believe it's the result of "wear a mask or your fired" and many said "Hold my Beer" and took early retirement, or just went to greener pastures.

I have hopes that it will change, but so far they are working with a less educated, inferior work ethic generation of worker labor pools...small stones make big waves.

Same issue with Lowes. Bought a new Samsung stove and had them deliver it. Opened it up and it was missing all the burner covers. Calls to Samsung and Lowes with each blaming the other and not giving us any parts. Ended up telling Lowes to come get it and that's when they gave us the parts.

At my shop we do it right, take care of the customers no matter what, customers always right, etc.. Everytime we take it in the shorts from a vendor, etc., my right hand guy looks at me and says "why can't we be that way"? I ask him, do you want to be that way? He says Hell No, I'm like "exactly". We'll stay "Old school", I think it benefits us down the road. We get good reviews and tons of referrals. Hopefully that makes up for "eating it", all too often.

You did this right, and it'll come back to you.

Ordered custom all-wood French doors from HD to replace the prior set (water damage) to close escrow. They messed up and I did not know till after I primed/painted. Called corp and they told me to take them back to the store I ordered from.

Rented a truck and me and the Mrs went to return them. Mills guy told me to pound sand as they had been primed/painted. Corp knew this. Told the mills guy my lawyer will contact them. He laughed in my face telling me you’re out the 2k…

At that point, I looked at my wife and told him, “Great, you are now talking to my attorney (pointing to her to chime in)”. She was quiet the whole time before. Apparently after her telling him some legal jargon, new doors were ordered at express delivery to the house.

We closed on time. Damn games they play.

Dam, some of these stories sound like mine a few weeks ago. Installed a new water heater from Home Depot and it had a leak due to a factory defect. Took it back to the store and they exchanged it but that doesn’t make up for my time removing and installing the new one. Plus driving back and forth to the store and the 50 gallons of water I wasted.

Dude that sucks.

Anymore I try to set my expectations really low, and yet I am still routinely disappointed with the goods and services I pay my hard earned dollars for. The bitch is there just aren't enough hours in the day to do everything myself...

Tear down with Sawzall 😄
When I asked who the fuck was paying me for this...she said "we don't really do that". Well, OK then.

..used my catalytic converter blade

Edit...and I wasn't trying to be a destructive prick, but when you design a structure using 02.thin tubing with unsupported areas where the bolts go through...it aint exactly sliding right apart after it's been put together.

And…since I hardly use my PayPal acct, I closed it a couple weeks ago due to their bullshit…probably jumped the gun, but whatever.

You know what the last thing I bought with my PayPal acct was? Well, the nice customer service lady at Home Depot knows…and that’s where my refund went. Lol.

What’s next?

The one weekend I take “off”.

At least I didn’t fuck up the new truck wheeling yesterday.

I ordered a double cardin driveshaft for the Jeep from Adams Driveshaft after installing a 4” lift and slip yoke eliminator. I gave them the measurement per their instructions and the one they sent was 3” too long. I called them and they immediately said it was their screwup. They built me another one and overnighted it without asking me to first return the one they sent. They included a return slip with the correct driveshaft. That’s the way business should be done.

problem i have with things like that is you've already invested time and effort into assembling like half of a structure and you only need one part... however the process is to stick teh whole damn thing back in the box (this is a feat in itself...) and return it. even if you're missing a bolt or a part. super lame.

It fits in the box better if you use a sawzall

I bought all four kitchen appliances from Lowes six weeks ago with no estimate on availability. Refer came in about two weeks, range and microwave came last week and little trim piece on rear from glass top to rear was dented. I took it off (three little screws) and went to Lowe’s Thursday to see if they could get a new trim. Nope, picked it up Friday and the guys said it would end up in the recycle bin going to the dump. Probably a $20.00 part on a $2,000.00 range, unbelievable. The wait begins on the reorder, dishwasher order was cancelled and new part number ordered.

The nail in the coffin for Customer service / take pride in your workmanship for mass produced products went out the window a couple years ago when money was handed out for not working. The building trades have been seeing this coming for more than a decade, but it's front and center now, in all aspects of life. To many people have been coddled in their formative years and simply do not know how to be a productive, responsible contributing member of society. If / when the economy goes completely off the rails, those generations will have a seriously hard time. Probably wont make them see the light, but their children dam sure will.

As for stuff made in China, the US consumers and share holders of US companies moving manufacturing to China created this shit show.

Don't forget Americans wanting cheaper pricing, buying a repop instead straitening and rechroming; EPA,AQMD f'ing with businesses. I remember as a kid in the mid 70's, an aunt buying all new appliance including mixers, blenders and toasters because they were now cheap cuz they were now imported.
We may have contributed to our own screwing.

Customer service went to shit when investors took the short view and didn’t see a direct line to ROI, and companies focused too much on making their numbers for shareholder value.

Customer service isn’t for the customer you have today. It’s to ensure they remain your customer tomorrow.

The younger working class of today are in for a very rude awakening that hasn't been present since the early 2000'. Even then it wasn't as harsh as it was in the early 90's or 80's. There are going to be generations of workers that will be so un prepared for what work environments and expectations will look like in a year or two at the most. Most of the PC, sensitivity BS will go by the wayside, it will be survival mode that unfortunately a lot of todays workers have never experienced.
