I need to replace the wood fence in my backyard. Looking for a 6' high privacy fence - something like this

wood-Picture-Frame-Fence.gif

The neighbor I share property lines with is looking to replace some fence at the same time. Probably end up around 200lf +/- when its all said/done.

Question 1 - Anyone on the boards do fences?
Question 2 - Anyone have any recommendations?
Question 3 - Any other tips/experiences/suggestions?

Thanks!

-Justin

We just had ours done not too long ago. We paid $35 lf. That included everything. He did redwood slats and pressure treated posts. We are very happy with the work. :thumbsup

Have you checked in to the vinyl stuff? My neighbor did vinyl, looks pretty good. Not sure how much more vs. wood though. We'll be doing fences soon, one more strong wind and we'll have a common back yard.:smackhead

My first choice is block, second is vinyl....... but the neighbor I'm going in on the fence with is pretty set on natural wood.

35-40 a lf is about right.

I really don't like the vinyl, it looks good from cross the street, but when you get close too it...

If you were closer I'd swing by and give you bid.

If given a choice between nails and skrews, go with the skrews.

If you have any Qs about a bid or anything like that I'm just a PM away.

I have a few mexicans that just did some work for me, pretty cheap if your neighbor changes his mind and wants a block wall.

for just the materials... its closer to 170/ ft with labor... I know, I'm building one right now... just got the base pored today.

I personally love red wood, I also tend to like the "brown/ red" presure treated then the green. I think it looks alot better then the green.

I also highly recomend in 3-6 months( after it drys out) you apply a product like penofin to the fence.

Just make sure the guys put the posts 18-24" in the ground on top of atleast 6 " of ab and bring the concreate above grade level ( using the "draining" aka fence post mix is best) atleast 120 lbs of mix per hole.( 2 60 lb bags or 1.5 80 lb bags)

the redwood is your best choice you can use cedar witch is a lil less money .. but you will have to stain it to keep it up and seal it more often...

if you cant find anyone let me know... I can do it for you...

Here is one that I did for my neighbor last year, I used channeled steel post's and poured a 6" curb to keep the wood off the dirt. I also coated all the lumber with linseed oil prior to assembly (needs another coat now). IMO wood fences are a maintenance issue to keep them looking sharp you should plan on coating them once a year.
