I buy stuff on Amazon, because when I drive my ass to a brick and mortar store this is what I usually find....

Pretty much. Best is going to buy something and the sales guy says they don't stock it but they can order it fir you and you can get free shipping if shipped to store.

I'll usually say no thanks I'll order it myself save money and shipped to my house.

They don’t sell BMX racing bikes there.

This is true! My son has a Redline “Redman” mini for BMX. We were going to the track in Simi up until it closed. Super bummed about that

We built a custom for my son. All sorts of who knows what is on that bike. I ride a redline cruiser class. It’s tough. We ride at Whittier.

Who the hell builds a store out of brick and mortar in 2019. That's their problem.

I am a fan of Amazon too, but the loss of Toys'R'Us hurt. There is nowhere to browse toys and get ideas at Christmas or for birthdays.

On the subject of kids bikes... I've got 7 kids ages 11 and under. Trust me on this, do NOT cheap out on a bike, even for little kids. I was replacing Walmart bikes every year for every kid because they only last about 4 months. I dropped about $250 once per kid at my local bike shop (owned by a friend). Best money spent. Lifetime maintenance/tune-ups included. Properly formed/welded tube-steel, racing rims, not rolled crap-steel wheels with bailing wire spokes. Things don't bend or deform like they used to. To date I have only had to replace tubes. Those 4 for the older kids will last well past the last kid growing into and out of them. I'll need a round of bigger bikes in a few years to fully round-out the supply as the younger ones start to ride. My 11 year old is 5'7" and 140 lbs and still on the same 20" tire, long-frame BMX-stlye bike she's had for years and cruises no problem.

Someone told me they moved?
Simi was supposed to give them a new spot and a budget to help with relocation / rebuilding, but i think that is up in the air at this point. There was a meeting at the Simi town hall about it a while back, I'm not sure what the outcome was. It was supported thru Simi Parks and Recs previously

I'd recommend searching on Craigslist for something you want. Whether it's BMX or Beach Cruiser or MTN bike or whatever. If it is BMX get one beat up for cheap and build it up with your kid(s). It's fun and they can take some pride in building / riding something they built. I'd say get all parts from somewhere like Porkchop BMX or PlanetBMX or one of the other big online stores. You can get stuff on amazon and ebay but ebay is now almost all Chinese made junk and Amazon just supports Jeff Bezos creepy monopoly! LOL.

New one is supposed to be going in on L.A. AVE next to Simi Auto Wrecking and opening later this year. They were originally going to build it up Tapo Canyon but had to scratch that.

Here’s what we ended up with. Finally found a bike shop with a bike actually in stock (believe it or not, even shopping for a quality bike, it took 3 locations to find one....)

Haro 18”. Nice little bike

She looks very happy. Well done dad!
.
Some amazon irony. There's a very active bike shop in Oceanside named Amazon Bikes. Yes they've been sued by the giant but they were around before them.

You were styling. My Mom bought me the huffy Monoshock as a gift ar one point. What's a 10 year old kid to say to his Mom. This sucks? :D

I still remember walking into the local bike shop in the 4th or 5th grade (84/85) and seeing the GT Santa Ana Mini with 1 3/8's, Uni seat, 3 piece GT cranks, chrome and anodized red finish hanging on the wall. Put it on layaway, I saved up half, mom paid for the rest. It was $500. A lot of money for back then! Neighbor had a Hutch and the guy down the street had a Ripper. I love 80's BMX stuff.

Here’s a crazy story...

When I was 7 in 1987, my parents bought me a mongoose BMX M-1 mini. My dad tricked it out with blue anodized Araya wheels, number plate, and some other cool stuff.

I’d try to hang with the older neighborhood kids but they were into freestyle....so I put a lean back seat post and pegs on it, and hung out at there houses watching RAD and wishing I was older.

I rode the crap out of that bike, once I outgrew it my parents gave it to my cousin, and it was promptly stolen out of his front yard, which bummed me out!

Fast forward 30 years - my brother calls me and says “dude....I found your old mongoose on Craigslist”. He sets it up, I show up at the guys house and there it is....still had my moms drivers license engraved into the bottom bracket.

The young guys selling the bike had a few other BMX bikes in their dirt back yard. I'm sure the bike i bought back had been stolen more than once in 30 years....
The guys didn't seem like Vintage BMX Connoisseurs if you catch my drift
I flipped the bike over and showed him the engraving on the bottom bracket, explained this was my bike and it was stolen along time ago. I still paid him, he wouldn't have been born yet when this bike was stolen. I freaked him out a bit thought.....

I was just happy to have it back. For now, it's hanging in my garage. I want to take it all apart and give it a full resto
