Pictures dont lie I'm "bone on bone" , kinda knew it for months but today My surgeon basically said "it aint gonna get better" , I'm told its quicker and simpler than knee ?

Mines bone on bone as well at 55 yrs old. Doctor said don’t do it until you can’t walk as the second one is not as simple as the first.

I am waiting for mine. I am also bone on bone in my right side. I got a few cortisone injections that helped at first, but they don't work anymore. I'm at the point now its hard to sleep. My normal deal right now is sleep in the bed until around 3am and then go and finish in my recliner. That is when I sleep the best.

i had mine done 6 years ago on the left, now need the right, go for it, it's much more comfortable when completed just make sure that you follow up on ALL REHAB PHYSICAL THERAPY

I can still walk OK but its become brutal , stairs/steps are a bitch , mostly sit at my desk /TV chair or barstool , I have a fairly high pain threshold but starting to succumb , OTC meds dont do shit , Norco takes the edge off , replacement is the eventuality

I good friend just had his done earlier in the year. He said that after the surgery, the hip pain was gone. He had the pain from the surgery until everything healed. He also said following up with the PT really helped. As much as I hate to have surgery, I am ready for this to go away.

My best freinds wife, 63?, just broke her hip 2 weeks ago in SD and had to have it replaced. She was up and walking on it 6 hours later. Talked to him last week and she has been very mobile w the assistance of a walker, little complaints from her.

I have had a left hip replacement and a right knee done.
The hip is a piece of cake, the knee not so much (it is a real bitch)

Wife just had her right done yesterday, six weeks AFTER her left. Little bit of a complication on this one but we'll work through it. The first week is a SOB but after that she has done really well. We'll see how this one pans out. Take your meds when you're suppose to and the rehab is a must. Doc called ne at 11 am and was done, she was doing some walking laps with walker around the pool at 6pm. Starts rehab on Friday.

Mine was getting to where I dreaded even getting out of bed or off the chair.
Those first steps were worse and worse.
Doc told me the same thing back in February.
“Wait until you think it’s too bad then wait a little more”
Well, end of Sept I said enough is enough. I couldn’t hardly work.
So I pulled the trigger. The surgery was a little more brutal than typical since the ball was sort of enveloped with spurs, he had to saw the femur off first then fracture the ball out in pieces. Usually they pop it apart like a chicken bone but mine wouldn’t pop apart.
Anyway, I think that made my recovery a little more painful than most?
For the first 2 weeks I wasn’t sure if I made the right decision. But after that HELL YES!
I walk all around now 12 weeks later like nothing.
I still have a little twinge after sitting too long or driving but 1-2 steps and it’s like it never happened.
Do it Tom, but make sure you have everything in order to where you can commit to recovery.

I walked in to Pre Op and the Whole staff was there to meet me They were amazed that I was Still Walking
Dr Fifer 's Staff said it was the Top 5 Of BAD..FUCKED UP ...How do you deal with the Pain...???
They added 1 3/4"on my Right hip recovery was a breeze Only 3 Oxys
100% recovery

BTW Dillagaf had two Knee replacement from same Dr.

Going in to have mine done next Thursday. Both shoulders rebuilt and that was painful but gald I got them done. Not looking forward to surgery and recovery but really looking forward to walking WO pain.

My wife has had both hips replaced. The first one was about 4 years ago. The surgery was at 8am at the local surgery center and she walked out of there at noon. We went hiking in Yosemite 3 weeks later. Her other hip was replaced this year at the surgery center in the hospital and it was later in the afternoon so they kept her overnight for observation. THis one took a little longer to heal being she is a little older. She has not had any issues with either hip now.

Called today for appointment The The Knee/Hip Doc is a neighbor looks like he's about 18' , did my Knee a few years back . My "Back Doc" pushed me over the edge today said "Do it" . I have a great support net work with Rhonda and Josh and because we live in the country we get "Visiting nurse and Visiting PT" ... With the knee I went home same day , back to Jet Boat in a week .. This time of year I do alot of online desk work

I've had both. Hip recovery is much easier than a knee. Best suggestion I have is do some ore surgery PT. It'll speed up your recovery

I had my hip replaced 20 years ago. Best thing i ever did. Go from a lot of pain to no pain. Mine was done when i was young due to damage done to the joint in a motorcycle accident when i was 18. Had the surgery for the new hip when i was 43. Your life will be 100% better.

had my left hip full replacement about 8 years now. I was better off afterwards, however didn't feel back to 100% no-pain....
I can tell you this, if you're heavy, and need to loose weight, GET ON IT NOW.! When I finally got on an atkins diet and lost quite a bit of weight,
I felt like I was 15 years younger..!

so: LOOSE WEIGHT............ EXCERCISE BUT DON'T ACT LIKE YOU'RE TRAINING FOR AN IRONMAN COMP.......

as for physical therapy, I never really did any..... my doctor said it wasn;t that big of an issue........

and BTW, I had full knee replacement this time last year.......... KNEE REPLACEMENT IS 9,000% MORE PAINFULL THAN HIP REPLACEMENT ANYDAY.

I had my left hip replaced in '94 , they used a cemented joint. The cement broke down and I had it replaced in '01 with a non cemented joint. You will be amazed when you wake up as the pain that you have grown accustomed to will be gone. Rehab is not that big a deal , you will be happy you did it.

Geriatric Daves Place LOL no shit ! For Me what I left out is almost simultaneously when might right hip started acting up , my "medial" side of my left knee started becoming sore , I've been gimping around for about 3 months "in denial" but yesterday My buddy ( Spinal surgeon) told me where the bear shits ... So I called the Hip/Knee guy to get the process started .............. My recovery from my right knee was super quick (back to work in less than two weeks) despite aging 5 years since then I expect the hip will give enormous releif and restore my "Rosy disposition"
