Anyone have any recommendations. I know some use service from Culligan. However, someone also mentioned the Halo 5 whole house water filtration system. Wanted to see what RDP thinks.

I had a Pelican system form Pentair in my house in Buckeye. I thought it worked great. Maintenance was easy. I have a Salt System/w RO in Havasu, thinking of going whole house but have been told the water here is too harsh?

I recently installed this system at a buddies house and have installed the same system for other family members. Whole House pre-filter, chlorine/lead filter and a 40k grain water softener. Materials are around $1200 and it works very well.

I have a neighbor in Newhall that owns a company, I think it’s called Guaranteed and he installs systems in the area. Our well water has a lot of iron in it and the neighbors who use his systems are very happy. I can get a number if you want it.

I have the “WaterBoy” whole house system and love it. It’s by Superior Water. I know 5 people who have the same system and they all like it. It’s not a soft water system, so if you’re looking for a spot free rinse, this is not that. But the water taste great, it minimizes spots, it claims to be better for your pipes.

The one thing to know is these whole house tank systems need to auto backflush once a week, it’s all automated and you do nothing, but a drain line has to be plumbed, which the installers will do. Most of the time they like to route it to your plants, but in my case that was not going to work for me, so they ran a line and it dumps into my wash machine drain, which is perfect. Also Superior’s installer is a licensed plumber, so it’s all done correctly and to code and part of the install price.

Also I chose to buy one size larger tank than what is spec’ed for my house size and water consumption. It was not that much more and in the long run will last longer and I will get more years out of the filter tank before it needs to be swapped out.

Have this in both houses as I prefer no salt. Very easy to change filters.

How often do you have to change filters if you’re in Havasu? I have the halo system in So cal and was looking at adding something similar to our family home in Havasu.
They recommend every 6 months but we aren't there enough, so we do yearly. California house every 6 months.

If you want a whole house filter system Amazon has what you need for under $300. If you want to rid your house of hard water/mineral deposits a water softener + whole house filter is the most reliable/efficient way to go.
Trust me...

I also have the Water Boy system, for well over 10 years, & it has never failed to back-flush & we can drink nice clean water from any faucet. It's great! The carbon tank is buried a few feet because it's in the front of the house & a fake rock hides what is showing. Mine just drains to one of our lawn drains & runs down the driveway. It happens at like 3:00 am.

I also have a water softener, int he garage, on the hot water side for one of our water heaters mainly because we had spotting issues with our dishwasher & sink. That solved that.

I had halo 5, the single resin tank. It was just ok. It helps but not enough
I didn't realize that until I got a system at new house.
It's a resin tank, a 'coconut' filter tank plus on salt for regeneration.

No throw away cartridge type.

It's legit but much more expensive than halo 5

Most tanks have clack components and are just rebranded. Ours regenerates about every 30 days and at 1am.

That looks really straight forward. You're using this and no salt soft water system?
Yes. I like the all in one system with pressure gauges and makes it easy to install. Filters ordered in a set, and company is in Brea. I didn't want salt in our water.

Thanks, I'm going to look into one. My salt system is on its last leg and frankly using salt is way dated.

Build your own - Its easy.

1. The housing are generic and standardized. Almost all " systems" are just regular housings or tanks with a label on them.
2. Almost if not all cartridges are commercially available.

Figure out what you want it to do - remove sediment? Correct PH? Soften? Remove chlorine?

Most common in city move is just to remove sediment and Chlorine which can be accomplished with a single housing and cartridge. Easy Peasy.

Where are the best places to buy?

I could use 1 at home and a sediment 1 at the river.

IF you want support and arent sure you know what you want - RC Worst.
I like to stick with Pentair /Pentek branded housings - what you see in most of these threads is called the "big blue" housing.
To be fair a few companies make good housings.

If you know what you want - do an amazon search. There are hundreds of vendors.

For a single housing deal Id get a 4.5 20" housing - this is a very standard size as is the 10" long housing.

"big white" is an upgrade for big blue with a built in bypass so you dont have to kill the house when changing filters and it's super easy to flush the lines with chlorinated water.

The filter I like scrubs down to half a micron and is a combo sediment/ carbon filter - this will make you while house taste like evian.
This lone cart is great for city use and on a well as a final scrub filter in chain and NSF rated.

I use this as my final scrub filter for my well water.

Can I be nosy and ask what you paid for this?

Its 3 4.5x20's Pentair/Pentek housings
3 of some type filter (probably 2 sediment and one carbon)
3 gauges (I dont bother with gauges on filters anymore but they are fun)
a wrench
A nice polished stand
A Nu Aqua sticker.

About $400 for unit, $600ish to install. Replacement filter about $100. This was in Caifornia. In havasu, added the reverse osmosis for fridge/sink, connections, etc. So about double.
