Copied and pasted from PB

Yes they did pay just shy of 15,000 for the domain. No the domain is not worth anything near that amount and probably looses value every day that goes by. It is my belief that the domains true value is in the 1500 to 2500 range as a novelty item. The domain carries no SEO weight and barely gets 1600 searches a month. Google has now BlackListed the domain effectively killing it off the internet. You can't even find it by searching for hotboat.com. Ahh the wrath of Google. The next time that domain sells it will not go for more than 3,500.

How does a domain name get black listed by google? And why would a name get black listed by google?

Just "admin."

He's right, if you google "hotboat' instead of pulling up the URL 1st like it should, it pulls up everything but the domain.

RD

Admin said you cant find it by searching hotboat.com, I find it just fine by searching hotboat.com. Not by searching hotboat though.
Here is something though, if you come in to RDP through the hotboat link you are not signed in anymore............

I noticed a while back RDP pulls an Alexa traffic rank of 125,930 and has passed PB at 177,346. Before the upgrade both sites were hovering in the 130K range. I think these are straight traffic stats, no google penalties or anything else.

Most likely the hotboat.com name only needed to get re-indexed. The redirect to RDP appears as the first listing on a google search. The google algorithm, rules and penalties change all the time, they channel info thru their front man Matt Cutts at http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/. Everybody in SEO follows his blog.

Congrats Dave, you are pulling more SEO juice than PB.

I think the declaration of HotBoat.com being dead is a little premature. Perhaps it's sour grapes from someone loosing the bidding war over the domain.

As far as the Google black list, that can be unwouned with a couple of emails.

Still, I don't know if it's worth $15K.

The problem with domain name squatters is they can be compelled to transfer the domains by anyone with a valid business case for owning it. If you try to extort a couple of grand from a business, they will probably just pay it. If you try to extort too much from a business, it will be cheaper for them to hire an attorney and take it from you.

At $15K, it still might be cheaper to pay the fee but I can't imagine it being a particularly difficult case to prosecute and there's always small claims court where the same law is enforced as any of the higher courts.

I wonder, seriously, how much it would cost to buy HotBoat magazine. I suspect it could be had for less than $15K and with it would come the copyright on the name. From there, you're just 20 minutes in small claims away from having HotBoat.com.

Still, the novelty value of HotBoat.com is terrific. Enjoy your prise, whomever you are.

For the record: I'm not telling

All you got is the registrant info. Doesn't mean this Vic guy owns it.

But whoever does own it only paid a few hundred bucks more than the losing bidder. Pretty nice score considering :p

Guess that means there were at least 2 people who were willing to lay down the cabbage :hmm
Mexicans dont lie very well. :D:D:D:D

True. But it doesn't hurt if you happen to have a URL that someone or a company wants. Like what happened earlier this week:

Facebook today acknowledged paying $8.5 million to buy the Internet address `fb.com' for internal use by its employees from the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Rumor has it that "later" bought it with the funds he received to recover his sunken jet boat.

PB is most likely pissed based on the past History they have with HB. We all know the story:rolleyes:

If PB really wanted to get their numbers up they would purchase Political and Religious domains to point to their site. Is that not what their board is all about:D

When it comes down to it who cares about what PB take is on anything:monkey:

Grads, you wrote this on PB, but I can't get on there much today..

[
I never said that you bought it. And as far as my bidding goes, my last bid was $303 because frankly thats all I thought it was worth.

Are you telling me that we did not have a conversation that we had? LOL

Because the #'s you were spittin in that conversation weren't 300 bucks it was 4 - 5K?
