So i get back from Key west last night and looking forward to a nice shower before hitting the sack, damn no hot water, go and check and no pilot light and it would come on but not stay on, ok so must be a bad thermalcoupler, so much for a shower,

Get up this morning and go get a new one $65 wtf oh well
what a pain in the ass to switch it out, but get it all in and same damn thing. it will light with pilot light button pushed in but soon as i let it out the pilot goes out,

Thats the end of my water heater know how. now what ?

Get a pipe cleaner and clean the pilot light gas line. It’s almost a capillary Tube and they clog or give lower flow for several reasons. Or replace it.
Cleaner line = better pilot flame = more power generated.

Pilot flame should be 3/8” from the thermocouple.

65 bucks, damn is it made of gold. I thought they were only about 15.

I have only changed one myself. I think if the thermocouple is pushed to far in or left to far out. you might get this effect. Again no water heater expert at all. Just kind of remember this when i did one years ago. Good luck

How old is it? Make and model? Is the intake clogged?

How is your gas sourced? Sounds like a volume/pressure problem....

Pull of the burner door asymbley. On the bottom of the combustion chamber do you see a small glass vile in a holder or just a metal pin? If you see the metal pin call the manufactor they will send you a new one. You can not buy them and if it happens twice by law they have too replace the wh.

i did but they don't sell it separate
Depends on the place......Lowes or HD does....or online....some are reverse threads though....they fit the the kit that you bought I believe. Older style thermocouple for water heater are regular threads I believe. Newer style have like a fuse type dealio...aso.....automatic shut off near the thermostat.....reverse threads. It's a safety thing if you drop a pilot.

This is the kit I'm talking about....about 45 bucks at Lowes.....The copper tube between the 2 white wires....aka thermocouple has reverse threads into that safety switch with the white wires.

I just saw this. I was going to recommend that it was most likely the junk Honeywell gas valve.

Thermocouple may be too tight. Only a quarter turn after contact. I learned this the hard way. Replaced mine and it still did the same thing, couldn’t figure it out so I called the guy. Said guy comes over and loosens it and re tightens it only a Quarter turn and he’s done. 100 bucks and fifteen minutes later it worked fine.
