Where to find 20W Oil

My PCM tranny in my old school Nautique takes 20W oil. I am having a hard time finding it. I know I can put Dexron 3 as a replacement but would like to stick with the 20W oil. Anyone have a supplier or a place I could buy a few cases?

I had to special order it a few years back. I went back to the shop and his Valvoline guy said he could not get it anymore. I have called Auto Zone, Pep Boys, and other small shops. No one could help. I will call a Napa shop now.

Sweet thanks Dave. I was thinking your Lucas sponsor would have something. I can simply swap to Dexron but it requires two flushings of the tranny to convert properly. I have also been told that flushing is not necessary. If a 20w oil is available I would rather go that route.

What kind of transmission is in the boat? Is the tranny part of the v-drive? or is it back by the motor? Does it use Transmission fluid? Or can you? Or just straight motor oil (20W).

We went straight over to dexron on our Nautique we didnt really haveto flush as we had a bad seal and all the old fluid was in the bilge. No issues since running Dexron though and our boat has 1100ish hours on it.

It is a PCM tranny that uses straight 20w oil.... On a 90 Sport Nautique direct drive.... 1200 hours...

Ok I called Lucas Oil and they said they're product called "Sure Shift" is a 20W oil.

If the tranny calls out for a Type F you would want to use the new Marine Transmission oil, that you can pick up at BoostPower.

If it calls out for Dexron then Sure Shift..

Joe Gibbs has his own oil he is putting all the goodies in it like the oil of yesterday. The stuff is great best stuff out there it uses the old school ZDP to protect your engine.

Lucas is also putting Zinc and other additives in their oils like the higher quality oils of yesterday.. Plus they have new stuff that works a lot better than the oils of yesterday.

I don't know anything about Gibbs (yet), but I'll research it.

they also offer an additive for people to add to there oil of today. Our part number is 10063 and its in a qt bottle if I remember right. Good stuff we sell it on the regular.

PCM Recommends switching to ATF.

20 wt oil does not have foaming agents unlike ATF, Borg Warner does use straight weight oils in low rpm diesel applications up to 3000 rpms, and after that recommends ATF, once an oil foams it loses its ability to lubricate and cool, just like insulation in the walls of your home. ATF does have friction agents in its chemistry to hold the clutches tighter, back in the earlier days on higher hp applications you would run type F "ford fluid" because of the friction agents which would hold the clutches tighter than normal atf.
A transmission does operate on co-effieciency of friction and im sure at one point on a test stand in Podiva Italy they performed tests on the break away point of clutches and found that the 20w didnt perform as well as the atf..

Not sure what that is... I bought two cases of 20w oil from link above... Should last me 1200 hours! I will probably flush it tho at some point and switch to Dexron 3.
