I've been looking for well over a year to find a decent used truck, they are either a couple thousand less then what you can drive it off the lot or worn out.

Where are all the decent trucks? All I care about is v8, auto, long bed and AC...

Having the same issue here. Mine went on Sunday. All the decent used trucks are going for about 5K less than a new truck. I assume that these are the trucks that were bought for full price two years ago and people are just trying to pay em off.
I'm trying to justify spend 30K for a truck with 40K miles on it as compared to 35K for a new truck.

I don't know where you have been looking, but I keep finding KILLER deals on trucks and other vehicles right now. You can find a 2006 Duramax crew cab for under $20k right now with low/med miles on it. Truck was probably $50k when new. I have been looking for a screaming deal and have passed up deals that were 1-2 years old and 1/3 the cost of the vehicle new. Definitely a buyers market right now! :thumbsup:D

Also, don't forget, the asking price is definitely negotiable right now. I have zero problem insulting people on the deals. You would be surprised on how many go for it.

Danny, Yellowboat. Funny you guys mention this. Just this past weekend, I saw a late model GM dually diesel for 19500. Crewcab. Seems like a very nice truck. Perhaps a salvage I don't know but they claim it only had 45K miles on it. Not bad for a work truck it that was the case. It's over in Djunkie's neck of the woods. I'd be willing to see if I can go get you guys a phone number if you're really interested.

I don't need a 1 ton, besides if I'm going to spend 20k, I'm going to spend 30k and buy new so I can write off the cost of the truck. Not to mention get a warrenty. You can not write off the cost of the car/truck unless its new.

Lue, all that you have to do is to open up Craigslist and go to town. Sub $20k is very common for anything 2006 and older with a Duramax. Same with Ford's F-series. A lot of people just need to get out of their trucks and they are blowing them out. Something that would have been considered a great deal 6 months or a year ago I would not even look at now.

You can write off the cost of the truck, or the depreciation? Even if used, you can write off the depreciation can't you?

With all the factory rebates and low int. rates on new cars why would you buy used? The auto industry killed the used car market when they offer such deals. Plus most people dont have a lot of money down on the cars and become even more upside down when factories start blowing out new cars.

I thought it was a screaming deal since I haven't looked at pricing lately. Now you got me thinking. :hmm

Nope, just the operating costs... either actual value ( which is a PITA unless its strickly a work truck) or by milage which is alot easier to do.( just need a log)

Well, that is your choice. I know that I am just looking at trucks that can tow a house off of its foundation so... it will probably be a diesel.

I have also been looking at Tahoe's and Yukons. Found a 2007 Tahoe, fully loaded with Navigation, TV's, leather, 3rd seat, rims, tires, etc. Vehicle has 8k miles on it. MSRP on the truck was $43,500. I offered the guy $23,500 and said that if I went up to $25k, I would own the truck. Sounds like a pretty killer deal to me. :) But, killer deals will always be there. If I pass on one, the next one will be there tomorrow. :)

I have exactly that but its a Chevy. If you can get past it I can hook a brother up.

And what do you mean you can't write off something used? Fire your accountant bud.

You can get a NICE new truck (leather and everything else) for like $23K. You'd be stupid not to buy new.

My accountant was a lead auditor for FTB... I've asked that Q many times, to many diffrent accountants... as long as you use it for just work, your ok, get in it once for a beer run, your toast.

besides thanks to my accountant I already get audited every year...

I'd get audited every year even if she was not my accountant. Just the fact that we are related is enough.

Why? Makes no sense. My dad was a big fraud examiner and professional witness for the IRS (US attorneys use to request him) before he went to the private sector. None of us family members have been audited...

Why by used? The dealers are practically giving trucks away, I just bought an new 2008 Chev Duramax LTZ fully loaded last Friday.
It's a $55,000 truck that I drove off of the lot for $32,000.

Nobody with a used truck is striking a deal on 3/4 ton crew cabs, chevy or ford. All they want to budge is maybe 500 bucks because they are so upside down.
For example:
07 2500 CC Short bed 42K miles. LTZ pack
27,500.00, offered 23K and the guy said 27 is the bottom.

Well you can get cheap trucks here in FL, and vans, and trailers, or RVs. And you could possibly drive RVs to Houston and sell them.
