Just picked up a 2004 Chevy 3/4 Ton and I'm ditching the wheels/tires. Currently has 18" Motometal wheels with new 35" Nitto Terra Grapplers. The front end is cranked up at the moment. From what I was told by the seller, the aftermarket front bumper allows for the 35's. I'm getting rid of the bumper and replacing with stock. New wheels I would like would just be plain steel in black to somewhat match the trailer.

Show me your setup and tell me about it. What is the largest tire I can run at stock height with a stock bumper?

If only the torsion bars are cranked to level it out and no suspension lift, I think the biggest you go is about a 33". The only thing I did to mine was a leveling kit. They trimmed the plastic valence a bit on the bumper, but I still rub just a tiny bit in the rear when making a tight turn and I am running 305/55/20's which is just about a 33".

Here is what mine looks like.

Your going to be stuck with 33's with teh front bumper and cranked torsions.

Different deal becuse I have springs with 2.5" spacers in the front but my 07 4x4 sat a tad lower in the front with torsion keys.

17" kmc hoss with 33" nittos

Great looking rigs! So what I should be looking for is 17" wheels with 33's ? This should fit fine with a stock bumper (after trimming a bit)? Any specific offset or width?

With the right backspacing and offset you could fit an 18 on a 33 or even a 20 inch wheel would not look bad.

I have never had any rubbing isues and never trimmed a bit with the 33's.

I think 18's look good on 33's. Certain wheels look funny in 17. This is my wifes truck so I didn't want to spend the extra $$$ for 18's and I think the Hoss wheels look good in 17.

Chestah, Did you find the deal you were hoping for?

I did. But I haven't seen it in person yet. I had my brother buy it for me yesterday. I'll be flying down in 2 weeks to visit the family, go to a wedding, and drive my new tow rig home. :)

With the right backspacing and offset you could fit an 18 on a 33 or even a 20 inch wheel would not look bad.

I'd want to stick to 17's or 18's max. I'm trying to tone down the look of the truck, not compete with your Tom Brown hater mobile. :D Does look bad ass though.

I have never had any rubbing isues and never trimmed a bit with the 33's.

Good to know. Guess we'll find out once I get a set installed with the new bumper as well.

I just checked out Race Desert for wheels and didn't much I liked. I figured I may find a better deal down south and pick them up while I'm there as well.

Anyone have wheels/tires laying around that may work for my application?

I ran 33' AT BFG's on my 04' stock with lift keys. It rode fine but I lifted it 11" and went to 38" tire on 18" rims. My new HD is 6" lift with 33" on 20"s ride great.

Good info above. And don't crank the torsions, add keys.

My 2500 has the CST 6-8 lift and sits on 35s.

What are keys and what's a leveling kit?

Dirtywhat, don't tempt me. I was looking at your thread. I wanted to drive it for a bit and then possibly add one if I felt the need.

The key is where the Torsion sits for adjustment. If you replace the key it changes the ride height of the truck without moving the torsions. I would change the front shocks to be 2' longer because of the added height.
Keys are about $50.00

Ahh. I was under the impression that the key was a tool that raised the torsion bars...obviously I have no clue about truck suspensions. I appreciate the advice, but, can we get Brown in here for the real scoop? :)

Most key sets come with shock mount extenders that bolt to the lower control arm so he won't have to upgrade shocks if he doesnt want to.

Don't be a pussy. Chip it! More power and increased fuel economy is always a no-brainer.

That sounds like what I'll probably end up doing then. Just trying to plan ahead.

I did torsion keys on my '05 and just had to trim the plastic fairing under the bumper a big and it never rubbed with 33" BFG A/T on 17" Robby Gordons.

Picture 014.jpg

I have a 6" CST on my '11 with 18" KMC on Toyo 35s.

I would not go any bigger than an 18" wheel with 33s as the ride will be substantially stiffer with a 20" wheel due to shorter sidewall.

Actually, it isn't as bad as you would think. As long as you don't put 80 psi in them it is not a bad ride at all, at least to me anyway.

Mine 20"s with 33" rides just as good as my 18"s with 38" did.

Take them back for a refund. Tell them they look a bit too faded red for your taste. :)

Ya well then comes the problem that I'd have to buy new tires for those rims after paying for the rims. I don't have enough for either. :(

Do you remember the specs on these wheels? When I shop for wheels & tires to get that same look/height, what offset or backspacing do I need to stick with? Any more views of this truck?

I would've included the tires for you. Of course I'd have to spin most of the rubber off to get down to the size that would fit your truck. :)
