What’s the best trailer bearing grease to use? In the past it seems the grease I've used either washes out of the hub bearings or melts with the heat of towing in Arizona and flies out all over the wheel. Opinions would be appreciated.

not sure of the best but i have been using the lucas xtra heavy duty on my car trailer, and boat trailers for awhile with good results no wearing or glitter o during services doesn't seem to thin out in high heat or long road trips.

This one is for disc brakes. https://www.amazon.ca/Mag-720-High-...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
I should also mention I used a grease gun as I have buddy bearings with zerks.

Just ordered this one actually as my forearms get extremely tired filling up 6 bearings every few trips:

You want a high-temp capable grease, that resists washout and emulsion and maintains good pressure stability. I hear the Lucas Extra Duty Grease is a good all-around choice.

Oil bath ! 16 years and have never touched them
I asked about oil bath but have heard if they get hot and you dunk them in cold lake water the seals can contract and suck water into the axle/oil and cause corrosion issues.

I just ordered a tube of this. I have always had good luck with their products.

Also ordered a gun with this coupler. Should make it easier to get on and off.

I started using the Amsoil water resistant and it works really good. Just a bit pricey and not easy to get.

This one?

Doesn't say how it handles high heat like from a disc brake axle. I have an AmsOil account so I can order it no issue.

Why are you doing it every few trips? If the seals are good, the bearing buddies are good, the bearings are adjusted right and you’re using the correct grease, you should have to touch them but every few years.

I use a quality synthetic disc brake wheel bearing grease...make sure the seals and the sealing surfaces on the axles are good, use bearing buddies...I add a couple pumps every few years...

I’ve actually driven down the hill to Cottonwood Cove , I know the brakes were hot , but dunked it right in the water , no problem .

Pretty much all the NLG1 rated wheel bearing grease is excellent. You want grease that's high temp and water resistant. And don't over grease the hubs, pushing the seals. If you have bearing buddies installed, all you need to do is pump the grease until the nipple/disc moves out and stop, the spring does the rest.

Redline is great stuff. I use it on anything that does not touch water, including my race car wheel bearings and my race car trailer. The Lock N Lube fitting is very nice, but, it will not be able to get every zerk if space it tight. Trailer wheel bearings are no issue at all though.

I use Green Grease on my SXS and my boat trailer and have been very happy.

Valvoline synpower. Knocks the temps down many degrees even in the harshest environments.
The thing about grease is they should not be mixed.
It's called Soap for a reason.

Yes, but buy a lot. I ran out a couple times and it will piss you off. That stuff is really good.

I have used that as well or RedLine. They seem to be about equal. It is what I have used in the ditch pumps.
Like oil, some is better then none. Cheap or dirty is better then none. The cheapest oil/grease that is fresh is better than old burned out contaminated lubricant or none.
How come nobody asked what the best bearing seals are?
They fail and the lube fails.

Food for thought. 90% of the 18 wheelers on the road have oil bath hubs on the trailer. Most have oil bath hubs on all axles. They last in winter and summer with many miles before failure.

Makes sense but they’re not submerging their axles in cold water for minutes on end either normally.

I dont but i also grease the bearings often after every trip just a few pumps at most and i do so after a trip to push any water that makes it into the bearings, will lift the wheels and spin the tires a couple times a year to listen for bearing noise or check wheel play.Only takes a few minutes was something my dad taught me years ago.

I had a friend who just bought a boat in havasu last week and headed to texas he made it just past parker and a hub let go.Turns out bearings were replaced in 17 probably only greased 3-4 times since and of course boat gets used trailer gets dunked etc so i told him strap the axle up bring it to me in phx get a hub and ill help you fix it.Luckily the wheel didnt come off and no bearings welded to the spindle a few taps and the outer bearing race popped off cleaned the spindle and prepped the new hub and fixed.Sucked to hear how he called a few places and all wanted to replce the whole axle,or told him he will need to replace the spindle at minimum and it would be a couple days to get to it.

Anyone concerned with grease comparability or are we just trying random greases and ramming em in there?

All the above and an original spare Hadco brake drum. I bought the last one Hadco had sitting around since 1975.
