What did the kids get?

Years ago for one of the girls it was American Girl Doll. Barbie too and for all the kids it was Nintendo of course.

Evidently American Girl Dolls popularity never faded are the BFD once again plus a movie in production. She has the entire collection stored in original boxes.

Since 5 it was off roading stuff for Maynard. . Quads, paddle tires, accessories.

What do kids want now?

The Nephews wanted video games. I won't support that. I bought them a little electric motorcycle. They can learn on. Was going to buy 2 but there was only 1 left. Figure they might need a bigger one also I can get later.

I searched for a good price RZR 170 . There was 2 listed on here but didn't get a reply. Buying them a second RZR 200 was not in the budget this year.

Niece wanted a hair brush with her name on it. She told the other ones. So I ended up buying 5 of them.

I generally hate buying christmas presents for anyone because I hate guessing at what people want/need. I throw away half of what I get. If adults need/want something, they typically buy it when they need/want it. Kids are a bit different. The wife typically showers the kid (13 now) with a bunch of chinese bullshit toys and lego sets and just stupid shit that he'll use a few times, lose, break, and otherwise forget about until I trip over it and yell at him to pick it up or throw it away. We have crates of this type of shit.

So, I sat the boy down and gave him $500 to spend...but it comes with conditions. We discussed the drone he wanted (I lost his a few years ago never to be seen again)...and discussed how it was impractical where we live. Also discussed all the other bullshit he usually gets and how the enjoyment is shortlived and then all it does it take up space.

It has to be something that:

A: will help him learn some new skills
B: he will use for more than a week
C: is not a piece of shit novelty thing for decoration.
D: Something we can have fun with together

It's also dependent on my approval, which will simply consist of me asking him those 4 questions and making him satisfy the requirements. He seemed excited about it. He is not limited to off the shelf items....wanna head over to Rockler and buy and by some trick hardware and black walnut or whatever and make some cool stuff outta wood? Great! Want to order some metal and spend some time standing in front of the mill and the lathe?...even better. Wanna buy some plans online and a bunch of materials and build yourself a little wooden boat? ... even better, I'll throw more down for that once I see the effort.

So far, he's switched from watching dumbass videos on youtube of idiots playing video games to watching videos of projects....so I've already succeeded in my plan without having even spent a dime.

No idea what he'll choose, but we'll discuss it and move forward in one manner or another.

The only video games we bought was construction/design. Kid ended up going to school for engineering and switching to architecture the second year only to confess that he should have stuck it out in engineering.

Buy him a roller Snap-On box with entry level tools. The following years buy more tools for it. Teach him to use the tools and put him to work.
My dad did that for me at the age your son is. I didn't pursue a career in being a mechanic but everyone's dirt bikes always ran and 21 years later I'm still using the tools to build, maintain, and repair my equipment.

That’s what I’m doing for my nephew…..

always trying to support and encourage his building or repairing of things and buying or donating tools to him.

The 13yo daughter wanted a new IPhone that had "more storage" that the SE 64gb she was currently rocking. She got a new 14 256gb today and she was super happy. She got a bunch of clothes and artsy stuff as well.

11yo daughter got a Victrola turntable and a couple Taylor Swift albums, new ski boots and jacket/bibs, Alexa EchoDot, and other items she requested.

The wife did a fantastic job this year with decorating our home and her wrapping skills were on point and beautiful. Wife received a full in/out detail on her car, Chanel smelly stuff, a new pair of shoes, and a bunch of new undies hand picked by yours truly. 😁

This was a pretty great Christmas this year and it just had that feeling of Christmas from my youth. I haven't had that feeling in quite a while for some reason, but it sure felt good today!

My grandsons are 15 and 13, they like clothes so they gave us a list. We gave them a couple of bucks and they can get some other cool stuff. Grandma loads their stockings up pretty good. 👍🏻

Daughter got her 1st phone. She's been a trooper about waiting. She will be 14 in March.
Her twin brother chose to get a high end gaming PC over the phone. And offered to pay for half of it out of his life savings.
I'll take his cash and set it aside for when he's ready for a car.
They bought all the family gifts out of their savings this year.

When my daughter gave her papa his present from her, he said “thank you but you didn’t have to spend your money on me”. I just laughed because since when does she spend her own money. All comes from the same place.

My sons birthdays are both in January, oldest will be 21 in a couple of weeks and youngest turns 18 at the end of January. I got them each Bench Made knifes and lots of clothes. Youngest got UW Football clothing galore, oldest got work clothes, and a boot drier. My oldest is built like me, tall, long torso and long arms so finding sweatshirts, jackets, hell, even socks is a challenge, youngest is only 6' 1" tall and has his moms normally sized shoulder width, long legs and skinny waist. I am well versed in finding XLT clothing yet still wiffed on a couple of my oldest kids things. His brother reminded him that his built like a gorilla while opening gifts..my youngest son is an asshole and will eventually feel the wrath of his older bother.
