Asking for a friend in Illinois.
They have brown bull snakes usually.
This one is different, and puffed up its neck like a cobra.

I have a son who is obsessed with them! I find videos of him finding rattlesnake nests on his phone.... He wants a hognose, the neighbor has a ball python he wants.... I tell him... "If the local pet store has any Boomslangs in stock, you can have that....." I'm holding out hope they NEVER become legal... they are deadly. He's always showing me videos. I almost sent him this pic before I thought about googling it. LOL :D

I knew this thread would be good for some fun.

MissB, you are the exception here, so please know this isn’t aimed at you.

What a bunch of pussies! :D
F-n girlymen:D

The Woman! who caught this snake did not kill it or shoot at it, lol.
They have horses, animals, acreage.
Snakes serve a purpose, this one has obviously been doing his job! :)
She was just curious what it was.

Someone on another board also said hognose. I’d imagine that’s right.

Oh now you shouldn’t have let on you don’t like snakes:)
I don’t know about your end of the street but we’re usually good for at least one relocation per year...
And your house is in route to their usual relocation point;)

Yeah, they serve a purpose. They're good for killin.

My daughter wants one as a pet. I hope she uses that desire to get out on her own so she can have one.

haha releasing them into the new housing tracks, good man! Hate those guys bringing up the property value.

I actually dont mind the snakes, my buddy over in Woodcrest killed a gopher snake in his yard his dogs were getting after, 3 mo later his lawn was over run with gophers!

What I hate are the black widows...

I always thought copperheads/water moccasins had more of a triangle shaped body (vs the standard oval) and had that distinct white mouth.

But then again i grew up the southwest so dont quote me

Hahah! You don’t have to exclude me from your carnage! I can take it! Honestly they don’t really bother me, I figured it wasn’t poisonous, but I thought I throw some fancy names out there! My son also thinks it’s a hog nose... he said it was cute!! They startle me more than anything! [emoji23] and I’m glad your friend didn’t kill it!

So its a frog without legs is what ya saying.

Are you saying that you've got frogs that flatten their heads and hiss ? Wouldn't surprise me, but honestly, I'd find that a bit intimidating
In this parts we've got a lot of A. Rattle Snakes and B. Gopher Snakes. One will cause you to have a very bad day (Or final day perhaps) and the other, if he's doing his damned job, will make your days better, cuz gopher's suck, unless that is you're TBI and armed with a stick :D
As a defense mechanism, the Gopher Snake's coloration is very similar to a Rattle Snake's, but lacking the rattles and distinctive triangular head. But alas, the Gopher Snake's mimic the Rattlers, by flattening their heads, coiling up, acting aggressively, actually shaking their tails when they feel threatened --- so from a distance or if the tail rattles aren't visible, they're easily and often mistaken for rattlers.
So as much as this defense mechanism can help scare off some predators, people armed with shovels don't find their display amusing. Oh and they hiss too !!
I've told many a Gopher snake, to knock this shit off because if he looks like a Rattler and acts like a Rattler, he may just get treated like one. The Gopher snakes do not seem the least interested in my lecture, although the neighbors seem to find me chatting with snakes entertaining :D

Years back when my son was young, a bit of a "Nature Chicken" and occasionally bullied by hummingbirds, I was training him how to set a Gopher trap. He was reluctantly following along.
I'd showed him how to prepare the hole and set the trap, so it was now his turn.
Two or three times as he went to shove the trap in the enlarged hole, he'd leap back, screaming that something was hissing. "Oh you big baby, now get down there and set that trap" --- again, he'd recoil in fright.
I assured him, Gopher's don't hiss, try again.
This time I knelt closer and sure enough he was right, a hissing sound and it was getting louder, followed by a large snake head rapidly emerging from the hole.
One of the largest Gopher snakes I've seen and he was pissed, I'm guessing it had to do with having a metal trap poked in his face, lol :D
That was a true bonding moment for my son and I.
Despite the countless laughs that moment has brought to our shared beer time. :p To this day, he's never set a Gopher trap, lives where there are essentially no snakes and we don't discuss Hummingbirds   :D

So do tell --- what's the deal with these hissing frogs

Black widows I HATE too....

Dont like these guys either - but they usually dont hide and pop out just to nail you.

Its the brown recluse I hate - that little mofo packs a wallop that makes the widow look tame.

I nearly lost a leg a kid because of one of these hiding in an old canvass tent.

My BIL in Florida got nailed by one 3 years back and didn't do anything about it until he couldn't hardly walk. Went to a clinic and they knew exactly what got him. Took months to heal and had to change the dressing 3 times a day. It was a hole in his upper leg about and inch deep. They said he came very close to loosing the leg.

How can you tell by looking at them, they're dry bites ? Or is it more a waiting game to see if there's any symptoms ?
We get a fair number around my place, but to watch some of these Mexican gardeners and the way they dive into the brush and bushes, you'd think they were immune. If they're in the rough or leaves, they're hard to spot unless they're moving. I try to keep all my bushes and hedges trimmed up higher off the ground so I can see under them.
