For me it’s about being there it relaxes me and puts me into my happy place.

Picture this, my wife and I in our boat cruising at 30 mph while still wearing a hat. The motor purring along at a measly 3000 rpm and barely sucking gas. A very comfortable ride. The water going splash and splash. With the music coming on and cranking Credence and being able to sing to the top of your lungs will not haveing a care in the world. All the while have one hand on the wheel and another on a cold, ice cold beer. No one in sight water perfectly smooth, 105 out and just enjoying life and forgetting about all the crap life dishes out. Wishing you could do this everyday.

What aspect of the river makes you happy?

The boating, heat, swimming, skiing, time with family, all of it. I don’t want to do it everyday. A few trips a year is enough for me.

Watching the sun come up over the mountains after an early morning ski when you are the only ones out on the river. Then the flatties come out for a few passes. Great way to start the day.

End of the day, sun going down, watching the sunset from out on the water. With no other boats in sight.

Good friends and stiff drinks. And cruising around after dark.

Hearing Wheeler yell at me from the docks, and spending the evening chatting with him and who ever he's with at the moment. Catching up with good friends.

The end of the day on that water. That's it. That's the ticket for me.

I hate to tell you this Pete, Mike Mack got into wake surfing and is out most mornings before it's light enough to be legal!

Haha, I've seen them out there with the spotlight a few times in front of your house. Guess he doesn't want anyone to see him on the wakeboat. We just shake our heads and head upriver.

I like all things as said about the river/ water.

For those that know me off the water, know I go 100 mph ( even still at 50) and can't sit still or stop working and thinking.

And truly being on the water is the only place I can sit still and relax , the only place I can sit and jus, watch the water and ducks go by for hours on end [emoji106] [emoji202]

You are a criminal deviant and selfish alcoholic for drinking while operating your boat.

Just thought you should know.

Those of us that truly enjoy the river only drink to blackout on the shore and then drive the boat home.

I love sitting in my boat, with my wife next to me headed up river to the sandbar for the afternoon. Sitting on beach at the end of the barbequing with a jack and ginger in my hand surrounded by my friends and family.

I just like being in a boat. No speed limits. No rules (to an extent) . Loud noise. Driving or riding in something. It reminds me of being 16/17 and cruising in my 69 Fastback with open headers. 351/4 Speed, Cragar SST’s. Lol. I don’t know how I survived those years.

I honestly kept getting bigger and faster boats and they do nothing for me now. I love little boats that are close to the water and fun to drive.

Yep...I went down the same path. Eventually sold it all and got back to what I originally loved about boating.

Spending time with my family and friends watching my kids learning to ski and wakeboard, plus my phone doesn't get great service on the water so no phone calls.

When I read the title of the thread I immediately thought of this picture on a wall in our house.

Lake Mead. July 1992. The 32 Spectra my dad and I finished in 1990. Could easily post a photo with me at my kids’ age sitting in dad’s R & R Holliday flattie from the 1960’s if I had one on hand.

FAMILY!

For me, 1- the boat is the only hot rod i have left. I tinker with it almost as much as I worked on a race car. 2- I met my wife at the river (Blythe) helping a friend race a jet boat. 3- my kids rather be at the river than anywhere else. My oldest told me last March, while walking down main street at Disneyland, that she rather be at the river. Her Gma, Gpa, aunts, uncle and cousins, all stay in the same park. 4-bikinis.

I'd rather be at the river than Disneyland as well, it's cheaper.

Early morning ski and Long Cruises in the afternoon. My favorite thing is driving a semi-fast boat a long way. Nothing better in the world than a long cruise, good music, a tasty beverage, the sound of a big block and the motion of the boat. Fuck I hate winter.

Love the early morning river water smell.

This is what I thought of. As a kid we would leave 2- 3 am and go through Desert Center to get to Parker.
I could never sleep and when I could smell that humid river smell I knew we were close. And then seeing the RR bridge meant we were there. Good times.

I love being on the water cruising. Everything else is work.

I love everything about boating. I have always been a gear head so IMO it's the last place you still have freedom to make a lot of noise and go as fast as you want.

Besides what is not to love about the sound of a BBC on the cam...cruising at 4k just is so much fun...the experience always makes me grin ear to ear! :D

I have more fun with my friends when we are at the lake/river. No one has a phone out, we play Dominoes or Monopoly or Hand and Foot and bullshit away the nights.

Nothing like waking up and hitting the key to hear that sweet song start to play...nothing like a hungover glass speed run to wake you up!

I really like that first cold one as well...sitting on the bow with my feet in the water...heaven! I have always felt that camping/boating brings people together, and in this modern disconnected world, I think that is a very important thing. ;)

I get a different feeling depending on which part of the river I'm at but some places are sacred to me. All of it's good but each place has a unique wave of different memories that flood in while I'm there or even during the drive to get there.

I have enough good memories alone that i feel happy there, but I also feel sad remembering many lost friends that died from racing.

It's fun to be with friends, go on boat rides, and just enjoy the beauty the river has to offer. Like someone already mentioned, sometimes it's the little things like the gentle slap of the water sounding off the floating hull. I think once you're bitten it never leaves.

summer is the best but love my winter rides too... 60ish degrees last week the two in the back never been on a boat before That's my son rolling shot gun!

its just cruising along the water clearing out my head and inhaling fresh clear thoughts, hearing the harmonic rumble of the bbc chevy behind me. then looking over at my family and they are in there own places within themselves not sure what they are thinking about but at peace and smiling the whole time. if im out with the fellas burning fuel its joyful to me to have my boyz along that don't own a boat and the boating experience is mind blowing to them...for me the full aspect of boating is my happy place away from reality either at the river or at the lake

“The River” is a special word in our house. It means escape. Doesn’t matter what’s going on. The second we cross the 95 into Mohave Valley, everything eases up. It’s the look on the kids’ faces when we’re running the boat, or the RZR (in the winter).
IMG_1407.JPG

It is absolutely my “happy place”.

It’s meeting life-long friends:

People who don’t give a shit what I do for a living. Just other like-minded hard working people out enjoying the fruits of their labor.

It’s absolute bliss for me and mine, and we crave more and more time there.

Agreed, running at 35 MPH, beer in hand, wife next to me, great music playing, 86 degrees, that feeling is addictive and unbeatable. It's the only time I can forget my real life. I don't run hard anymore because i don't want to be stressed or have problems, just want to boat

The smell of the av/race gas. The sounds of the engines running.

And of course the boobies

I enjoy boating and Havasu and being on or near the water, but there is something special about Parker.

My wife says it's the closest thing to a religious experience she has ever seen me have.

What about the river (boating) makes you happy?.....

On the local side, Awesome weather, going anywhere at any time, in any conditions!...
Fishing is good. There's very few other boats out there if I want to do some crazy shit! There's no lake lice, or them fuck'n wake makers interrupting mine!! o_O:D
Night runs in pitch black or Full moons!...Being out in the cold & wettest the river can dish out! :D

Boating in general...Outside of being frozen!..being able to go!...rain or snow...Lake, rivers, and ocean...Truly have the SUV of boats in the boating world. ;)

A few things enjoy:
- The last hill coming down the 40 into Needles. Love that feeling that we’re almost there.
- Picking up the boat at Billy B’s. Seeing what bad ass projects he has going.
- Cruising down river, up river or floating with some good tunes.
- People watching at Pirates, Sandbar or The Channel.
- Long weekends at the Nautical, quick visits to The Heat or Family trips to Big Bore’s.
- Horseshoes and evening BBQ’s with friends.
- Detailing the boat and giving it the once over before putting it away for the next trip.

Pretty much everything except for filling up and driving home.
