I was mowing three days ago. The roadside ditch has to be cut with the push mower, and I hadn't done it in a couple of months. I got after it, and about 30 minutes later I realized I forgot to shoot some insect repellent on my legs before starting.

Usually the chiggers are gone late in summer, but not this year. The little bastards worked me over, and it'll be another couple of weeks before this goes away.

What are chiggers?​

… Your drainage ditch reminds me of the time when I was towing a day cruiser back from Georgia and stopped at a friend of mines in Burleson, Texas… Pulled into his driveway and apparently caught the edge of the corrugated culvert or whatever you call that metal drainage thing that goes under the driveway… with the tires on the boat trailer… But man…the next morning did I hear about that… Had to get out my lead filled big plastic hammer…and beat that galvanized drainage, deal, back almost into it’s original shape…

… I also think I know know why when I was playing horse rancher in Oklahoma. I always had red infestations on my legs.… Apparently my girlfriend neglected to tell me about Chiggers…

I guess that’s why we knew them as “red bugs” as kids growing up in FL. I remember we would get bites from climbing trees that had lots of Spanish moss. Wicked critters.
