James was on a mission over the weekend!
It was his first time back in Burley after losing his Father - Ron "Stretch" Gregory (Crew Chief/Boat Racing Legend/Mentor/All Around Great Guy)
Jimmy smoked the competition in all of the heat races AND the final rounds BOTH DAYS!
He did this with his Dad's ashes taped to the stringer in his RDP sponsored Biesemeyer! As he crossed the finish line, he gave a fist pump, then looked skyward and pointed up, pretty sure he was saying "This one's for you Dad!"

Beyond grateful that I was there to see it, not gonna lie....I shed a tear or two

He wore his Dad's crew shirt when he went up to accept the award.
You can see by the size of the shirt how "Stretch" got his nickname! (Jimmy is probably 6' 2" or so)

Congratulations James on your hard earned and well deserved Victory!!!

Thanks Jeff, and everyone. To say this weekend was an emotional roller coaster would be an understatement.

Going into the weekend i knew i had prepared the boat just like Dad and I had always done, what i wasn't sure of was if I was prepared to deal with the emotions.

On Saturday, we had a memorial for dad where we had 5 boats, and at the start finish line i shut the engine off and the rest kept going. That was pretty cool and emotional as well.

In the end, we went 4 for 4 1st place wins in Super Stock. I was a blubbering idiot accepting my 1st place SS trophy, and then later in the awards when they announced i had won the Governors Cup i about fainted, and the Tears were rolling. It took me a few seconds trying to come up with words while up in front of the other racers and the only thing i could come up with was...This is for you DAD!

Some Pics of from the weekend.

Burley parade, we idle through town and toss candy to all the kids and spectators, so much fun.

To sum up the weekend and my thoughts, I think this song rings true to many people on here in situations where things have gone right and a loved one isn’t there to rejoice in the moment. It takes a little to get to the song and words but think it’s fitting.

Well another Burley Regatta weekend in the books. And we succeeded in winning all the Heats again this year in the RDP SS75 (No Governer's Cup, but Swept the weekend). The competition is getting stronger and the Super Stock field is getting stronger. We had one minor item:confused:...we had to pull the V-drive out after the 1st heat Saturday as the upper rear bearing was about to completely disintegrate and do a whole lotta damage. While in there we also noticed the Lower was about to suffer the same fate, so we replaced both and were able to make it for the final. It was another incredible weekend, and feel very fortunate and blessed to have the equipment i have and the friends and family that support me.

Oh yea, i got damn lucky. When i got back there was a "paste" like substance on top of the tail shaft housing and underside of the drive line guard tube. Felt like a lapping compound. I got lucky it pushed that "paste" out the upper seal and it showed itself on the housing. Otherwise i don't think i would have caught it. Everything sounded fine when i came in. Pretty sure Dad gave me help on that one as it would have been UGLY when the rest of that let loose and the upper shaft started flopping and banging next to my right calf.

it was all magnetic far as i could tell. I'm pretty sure it was eating the bearing during the heat race. i scraped a bunch of the paste into a spray cap and thinned it with brake clean then stuck a magnet in it, came out looking like a fuzzy chin. Luckily the case and bearing "seat" looked perfect.

The V-drive will come out in a few days/week and get a full rebuild where i can verify all measurements and everything, vs the smack the new bearings in with a BMFH and a block of wood on a table in the pits. LOL

Hey man, that is called racing....:)

The boat and everything in it at that point is nothing more than a tool to reach the goal on race day. Just how it is. :)

Very True!

It also helps when your competitors are telling you to get it fixed, they'll wait and push the final back to the end of day as they want to beat me on the track not because of something like this. As well as they are right there in the mix willing to help in any way possible.

Racing Families are some of the greatest people. As the saying goes...you don't have to be blood to be Family!

No sir,

Right on all accounts. I miss me some racing.

Anyone who has raced has thrashed on a competitors car to get it ready for the main.
