I’m usually here for work - this week an old friend said he wanted to get together.

Just landed at DFW - heading Albany TX.

Looking forward to having some steaks / drinking some scotch and seeing what the real west (sort of west) TX is all about…

Cooked some steaks over a mesquite wood fire -

Cattle seem to like to take a dump right in front of the grill where we cook the steaks in the cook shack! I think they are trying to tell us something 😊

Got a flat in one tire this morning - then the spare valve broke off when we where at the far end of the property checking the fence line.

In town now getting both tires repaired.

Looks like we may have a horsefly issue.... they chewing on you guys too or just the cattle? Lots of tail swatting right there.

If you keep moving they are not so bad!

They like the cattle better than us😊

It’s that time of day again…

Fixed a fence / changed 3 tires / fed the cattle & repaired a broken trailer today.

Time for some ranch water and get the fire started..

Hope that’s just a fire pit at this point, tossing gas into a smoker just ruined that cooker.

Haha - ya / no

We don’t smoke in it but after the wood burns down we do cook steaks on the coals

Can't wait for our trip back home this summer, takin 2 weeks off driving from Vegas over July 4th to go visit the family in La Grange and Houston, then got a beach house for a week down in Port Bolivar. Here we come bugs and humidity!

Wrapping up and heading home tonight. Had an epic time and great talks with an old friend. Ate great food, drank great drinks.

I got to do stuff I don’t get to do every day and I’m fuller for it.

I’m lucky to have friends that are in so many different walks of life. I got to learn about the history of a part of our country I didn’t know as much about as I do now. It’s been a really great few days.

And, speaking for all the members of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association & the West Texas Ranchers Association…

Eat more beef!

Apologies if I missed it, but would be interested in the age and explanation of the brand.

These are registered brands in (forgive my ignorance) what ever group registers brands.

This one is a CB - it stands for Cauble Brothers - this is the one my friends father created with his brother…

This brand is also registered - it was registered by his grandparents a long time ago. They apparently liked wine, so they made their brand a wine glass. He told me the official name of this one, but I don’t recall what it was. This is the one he uses today now that he has taken over the ranch.

This first one is only for wood - it’s too thick to use for cattle. The thickness of it metal is considered too wide once heated and would be “cruel”.

This one is the OG, it stays in the house.
