There has been some discussion in various threads about what constitutes a "VIN", so maybe we should put some definitions around that. I don't think a VIN has ever happened to me, but I feel compelled to stand up for those who have been VIN victims and have not scoured 4,654,672 previous topics and 48 other forum segments to see if what they are posting has already been posted.
Here is what I propose does not qualify as a VIN:
- The repost doesn't qualify as a VIN if the last reply to the original, duplicated post was over two months ago
- The repost doesn't qualify as a VIN if the original, duplicated post is not in the last 150 topics (3 pages when view is set to 50 topics per page)
Most importantly, I suggest that in order to call someone out for a VIN, you must post a link to the duplicated post. Show us how easy it is to go find it and how the VIN suspect should have done the same. No more VINing someone without putting the effort in!
Just here seeking some justice for the downtrodden and marginalized VIN victims amongst us who cannot speak for themselves.
