There has been some discussion in various threads about what constitutes a "VIN", so maybe we should put some definitions around that. I don't think a VIN has ever happened to me, but I feel compelled to stand up for those who have been VIN victims and have not scoured 4,654,672 previous topics and 48 other forum segments to see if what they are posting has already been posted.

Here is what I propose does not qualify as a VIN:

- The repost doesn't qualify as a VIN if the last reply to the original, duplicated post was over two months ago
- The repost doesn't qualify as a VIN if the original, duplicated post is not in the last 150 topics (3 pages when view is set to 50 topics per page)

Most importantly, I suggest that in order to call someone out for a VIN, you must post a link to the duplicated post. Show us how easy it is to go find it and how the VIN suspect should have done the same. No more VINing someone without putting the effort in!

Just here seeking some justice for the downtrodden and marginalized VIN victims amongst us who cannot speak for themselves.

I don't care what sub forum it's in, a vin is a vin however I have been vin'd 3+ weeks after I posted it but didn't call them out on it🤷

If you are going to post something look at all the recent posts you haven’t looked at, the bold lettering. If you don’t see it fair game.

Maybe it's just me. I'm ok with a VIN. I don't always see the 1st post.
Doesn't every post and click help the website tracking and value?

Would speed 1,2 and 3 be VIN?

I don't think it should be considered a "vin" if someone has a clickbait title instead of a descriptive title that explains what the post is about. If someone never opens your clickbait they won't know it has already been posted.

Wow, this is surely the most important topic ever🤣🤣
I'm gonna go super old school and use a @RiverDave reference from the HotBoat days.
"Sitting here shakin' my head"🙄
.
Btw.. The rolling eyes emoji was as close as he could find to use😄

Speed threads are a different animal. They’re all attempts to turn it into a positive thread for Speed enthusiasts. Much like a VIN, funny every time. I’ve had a few VIN’s. Always get a chuckle out of it.
