Anybody been recently (last couple weeks) camping @ rincon, Emma woods etc.? How busy/full were the beach front camping areas during the week? We are looking to spend a week @ E.W. 9/21-9/25. I'm concerned about availability. It's 1st. Come/1st. Srv. We've always been able to score ed a great site in years past but I'm concerned about this yr. W/so many peeps outa work w/vivid etc.
When do schools n that area return to "classes"?
Any insights from those in the area would be greatly appreciated.

Allot Ventura County schools start this Monday the 17th. Not sure about rincon and emma woods but Ventura Beach RV resort was sold out last weekend when I was there. We booked 3 weeks in advance. But everyone left on Sunday. So you might be ok if you are arriving on a Monday.

Rincon is now reservation only. Has been for a couple years now. Go to venturaparks.org
Emma Wood is as well. Go to reservecalifornia.com
If it's full, there's a facebook page for Rincon camping where people will say when they making a cancellation so you can hop on right away and pick up their spot.

Theft is always rampant at Rincon! Lock your shit up, I had a Honda EU 2000 generator get snaked and it was locked up. When I called the cops, he said the crack heads wait for the train to come thru and that is when they make their move.

Used to go to Rincon all the time until the reservation system kicked in. You must plan way way in advance to get a spot in the summer. Books fast. That Facebook crap is what screwed everything up in the 1st place. Good Luck

I have mixed emotions about the reservation system. On one hand its really good if you plan in advance. But on the other hand it blows for the mid week/weekends when you want to camp up there and try and line up getting into a spot once some pulls out.

Malibu Beach is pretty cool. A little pricey for ocean front, not much area to ride bikes and have to drive across PCH to the beach, but if you want the ocean front you cant beat the view! And the Beach across the street is nice.

Really?! Good to know. I've been wanting to check it out. Maybe think twice.
We booked a week at Rincon for Labor Day, I will let you know.

Last I heard they were having a big issue up there with Mice, Rats, and Squirrels.

They are stealing everything, generators, bikes, BBQ's, stoves, scooters, chairs....... locked or unlocked you have to bring everything in leave nothing out.

Stayed at e.wood week before last. Mon. Thru Thurs. We were by the sea wall. Looks like they are doing every other spot along the wall beach front was to cramped for my taste.

We rode past both places last weekend on our bicycles. It was nuts to butts at both places. Friends were staying at Rincon, do we hung out for a while. It's a fun place to camp, we're staying there in November for a few days.
It's reservation only.

I go there several days a week for day trips.. Was There yesterday and probably tomorrow too

Rincon has been pretty much occupied (but all sites are open) and Faria is every other site open, but at Faria for some reason there is a few exceptions where 3 sites in a row were occupied. ?????

I've seen sites unoccupied at Faria (in the upper 20s, no hook-ups) but that was during my day trips. If you use their online reservation it's very user unfriendly and time consuming trying to put together a series of days due to the way you can check availability.

Hopefully there will be more avail when school starts

The trick is..... if you are at one of the parks, and you must be there in person, talk to a park ranger. They have the ability to see a calendar of which sites are avail in the future but as far as I know there os no way to contact them unless you're in person.

You may try to call the reservation folks as well, I don't know if they'll give you the same info

Good luck! I Always have a good time there

Rincon is jam packed, nothing available for three months out. I checked every day on the open calendar for two nights and nothing.
They only let you book three months out. I finally just reserved a whole week in November when a new day opened up.

by far my favorite place to camp for last 20 years. Never had the problem with theft, guess I should knock on some wood now.

When I stay at Emma Wood, I just stay there at night then I go to the nice day use area down the road during the day. Moho is pretty quick and easy to move.

You can also rent a spot at the Channel Islands boat ramp. Zero hook ups but it’s clean and you’re right next to the harbor. It’s a little secret spot. Our friends from the valley just got there tonight and are staying 3 days and paying $60 for the whole time. You pay at the harbor patrol station. Just another option.

My wife and I used to go there for date night. Drink listen to music, have breakfast in the morning and go home. Never failed to get a spot. Then we show up and someone tells us their friends reserved the spot I'm in, Fuck! I call in and talk to a very sweet lady at reservations. She explained the Facebook groups would line up spots for months on end. We're going this time, I'll wait to leave until you pull up. Assholes screwed up a sweet 1st come 1st served location. Fuck Facebook in every way shape and form, never been on there never will. It's truly become a stain on society and the guy on top is the worst. Rant over.

Never heard of this so thanks for the heads up. I’ve got a friend with a boat there, would make a nice trip to be able to have the motor home there for the weekend too. I’ll have to look into it.

Yeah, it's a little secret spot. You're not ON the beach like Rincon but then again you dont have the freeway right there and the road on the other side of your rig with cars doing 45 past. But this is the view they text me this morning. Not bad. They brought their electric bikes and are riding all over the harbor and down to the beach.

So you are basically "camping" in the parking lot of the launch ramp? I love that area and that seems like a perfect location to hit up some cool things.

Yep. There's a sort of over-flow parking lot just north of the launch ramp that they use to allow people to over night. I think "technically" it's meant for people that are boating out to the islands and leaving their RV or truck / trailer there over night but it's sort of a loop hole. We're all about loop holes down here, like the fact we can take the golf carts on the beach. Loop hole baby. ;) 😁

Kinda cool if you had a boat that you could tow behind an RV because the guest docks are just west of this area that you could rent and leave your boat tied up a 100 yards from your RV for the weekend.

My son wants to celebrate his 24 this Sunday in this area. Does Toppers get busy for lunch? Is there parking and easy beach access? Don`t mind a little walking.
