Now ain't that something! When I was AF LE at Vandenberg, we knew something was gonna be launched in about two days 'cause all my AF Security Police friends went to 12on- 12 off - very tacticool stuff.
I'd ask when the launch was happening and they all claimed it was OPSEC and couldn't tell ANYONE!

I learned (quite by accident) that all I needed to do was to head to a certain bar in Lompoc where all the civilian contractors went in the evenings and ask them. I not only got what day, but what MINUTE it was going up as well as what the payloads were and expected missions of those payloads.

And now its all on the forums LOL

Oh shit, you weren't supposed to see this, you're on a need-to-know basis and you don't need to know. Lol

Hot damn, way cool !! BUT, what is the part that dropped off and was slowly falling back to earth ? These were taken from North San Diego County, the final pic shows that trailing, falling part dropping to earth --- hopefully into the ocean !!

I knew it was tonight, but I must have been the only one! I walked out of the grocery store and 30 people were looking up and on their phones. A few were on the verge of full panic. They were really freaking out.

That is stage 1 they would normally reuse it but this time they are trying something new. They are going to come in at much more of an angle and try to set it down in the ocean neatly just like it would be on the boat. My son who just started work at Spacex and this rocket has the first parts he built going up.

Just crossed the South Pole. It will start dropping satellites in 15 minutes. You can go to the SpaceX website and see the trajectory

We did the same thing. We were pulling into a restaurant here in Camarillo for dinner and everyone was in the parking lot looking up and snapping pics.

We got one.....nothing like others have posted but impressive (to us) all the same[emoji6]

By the way did anybody notice or navigation going haywire right before the launch? Mine kept telling me to make a u-turn on the freeway or exit where there were no exits. I assume they shut down the public access the GPS before the launch.

Thanks so much Msum661 and others reminding, for posting the launch date & time. I always end up just missing these things.
Back in Sept 83' my wife and I were honeymooning (Just us two) on a houseboat on Lake Mead. We'd been away from home, TV and essentially contact with the outside world for a week. Right at sundown we witnessed what we later learned was a launch. But at that moment, didn't have a clue what it was and it was quite frankly, scary as shit. We both wondered out loud --- "Is this it ? The big one ?" Very apocalyptic for sure. Even watching this one a couple neighbors ran outside, saw it and were initially a bit freaked.
