UTV tire feedback

Question for the UTV guys. Looking at tire options and need some feedback. 2021 honda talon, going to run a 31x10x14 and can't decide between the terrabites, chicanes, kanatis, or the motohammer.

Will be hardpack and havasu streets mainly, so a harder compound is best, just looking for real world feedback

Chicanes are pretty darn good in Havasu. Of those 4 I would put the Motohammer or Chicane at the top of the list. I don’t think you’d be dissatisfied with any of them though.

M1 evil by AMS is what I have. 1000 miles and they look new. Streets included. No flats. At 70 mph on the 95 they are quiet and smooth. Big O in town did the mounting AND balanced. worth a look.

I have a set of 3 pc douglas beadlocks in the shop that needed to go on something. I will say this, tight fit but they work and are lightweight for a beadlock.

I have installed tons of Chicanes for customers and their feedback was always good. It's my go to tire for when someone asks for a hardpack tire and they don't want to spend BFG money. I have driven multiple cars with them and they have a good balance of grip and predictability when sliding through turns.

I have also had good luck with ITP Ultracross, and have heard good things about the Arisun's as well.

@DLC will tell you. Locktite those bolts and nuts on the rim face or you may wonder why your tires don’t hold air

I think for a hard compound tire my favorite is the Regulators. They aren't light but a 31 or 32 would be totally fine (we ran 32's on our 1000s)

I’ll third the Ultracross. I like that they don’t have a shoulder and felt more confident in sliding turns I was less likely to have a sidewall puncture. Never did get one with them and not enough data points to sample whether accurate or not, just an observation. They’re atrocious in sand though.

DWT used a bigger bolt head for the inner bolt. I lost a few bolts over the 4200 miles I have on mine.

your missing a few bolts also. DWT is in Temecula or just get a grade 8 bolt w/ a top lock nut and a couple washers

Yeah those were just there for mock up. I had to go buy a 1/4 torgue wrench to make sure when they do get assembled I have the right specs.

BTW, the guys at Douglas are awesome, parts in stock and make sure that you get what you need in 1 stop

I run System 3 rims and tires. I have hit everything with them and no flats in over a year. Havasu is a good testing grounds for tires, thats for sure.

I have to say the BFG and Tensors I like, I just don't want to run a true 32"

If they tend to run small I can fit a 32" 31s are about the max I can run without getting some rub at full lock

Important to list what model you are running. The Tensor regulators last really well. The DS not so much but are the lightest out there.

Id go BFG. On our primm ride BFG we’re the only tires that didn’t get a flat.

The regulator doesn’t come in a 35. Only the DS comes in a 35.

I know the regulator is a good long lasting tire.

the rt320 is a whopping 2 lbs lighter in a 35.

My bad, missed the 35 comment. I'm running the DSR 35s and the cost per mile is pretty crazy with how soft they are.

I thought they were the lightest out there, I may have to try those RT320 next season as these DSRs will be done after this year.

I ran the AZPT one year and they were basically slicks about 800 miles!

I think I have 3 fairly decent tensors 35 DS’s maybe half way worn out in Havasu, they are to good to dump, toss out. I’ll take a pic next trip out to see if you want em! They would start to wear and I would buy 2, then I ran in 4 wheel drive and burned up a set rather than just 2 ….
im in Escondido and can easily get em to El Cajon area.

We’re talking about the DSR. DS isn’t made in a 35.

Sounds good. I’ve got about 800 on mine (Yuma to Alamo, to Kingman and back plus local riding around Yuma) and figure I’ll get to ~1200-1400 before they need to be replaced. Always 4x4. I’ll have to grab a picture just as a point of reference for anyone else reading the thread.

Sounds like you are getting “Regulatir like” life out of the RT’s. That would be nice

For reference for anyone thinking of DSR‘s these are after about 800-900 miles. Hard miles and no issues, like the tires, but still something to keep in mind that they are a 1 season tire depending upon your miles...

Not on your list but I really liked the bite that the Tensor Regulators had. Seemed to accelerate and respond very well, noticed the difference immediately. Very durable too in havasu, i never had to pull a spare. Still a big fan of that tire!

I am currently running a set of the BFG KM3's on a new RangerCrew. They were recommended to me to help make up for less power, we drove the bash poker run course last week and they were pretty damn nice!

just sayin... I think you can get the tensor in a 30" if the 32" is too big, its a damn good tire!

Not a tire expert….. which is the best DOT tire, looking to stay “street legal” and decent off road. Mainly Havasu area, but looking to expand.

That changes a lot. A true beadlock wheel is not for street or highway. The BFG KM3 I mentioned above is a utv tire and not DOT. I dont think the Tensor is DOT either. I did run a BFG AT on the RZR for a bit, really great on the streets, but hard and heavy in the desert. It was strong AF tho! Look for an 8 ply base to start I think.

Maxxis Liberty. I got 3000 miles out of my last set, never got a flat. Fairly light, DOT, ran nice on the roads.

So I ended up pulling the trigger on the chicanes in a 31x10x14. I found a set for 800 otd, figured I'd give it a shot. I'll report back once they come in

Went with the RT 320 based on your recommendation. So far I am loving the tire. It is a lot taller than a 35 inch DSR but the traction is night and day better and so far the wear seems very good. We ran a mix of everything on our most recent trip mud, rocks and high speed two track and fire roads. They held up beautifully

we will probably switch the other car over to 33 inch RT 320s when those DSR‘s are done. (which won’t be too much longer LOL)
