Utility Trailers

I’m currently in the market for and shopping HD utility trailers. After some looking, I’m down to Big Tex and Lamar. Any preferences? Looking at 14,000 and 16,000lb GVW round pipe top rail models with either greased axles or oil bath. Would have a drive up ramp with a hip support.

I have had over 30 trailers. I would go PJ or Lamar over Big tex. I have a few Carson trailers. The paint sucks but trailers have been great.

Had 2 Big tex. 1 the spare mount weld failed and lost the spare and mount. Other was great.

I was told that -

Big Tex and PJ are made in the same facility in Texas

I have a PJ and the So called powder coating sucks!

Great trailer but looks like crap and it’s not that old

I've had a PJ deck over that never had any problems, and now I have two Big Tex units that have been good to me so far. The only failure to date was a clear plastic oil bath Hub cover that cracked, I was able to super glue it together to get it home. The big tex units are a 14 ft dump trailer and a 30 ft gooseneck tandem dual axle equipment trailer.

Big Tex has gotten the job done for me, with no problems.
Can’t say that about Carson… I had to grind and reweld 25% or more of the welds.

Never owned a PJ or Lamar.

I like what I have seen on the Lamar trailers. But in Carson City NV, the Lamar brand Is roughly 33% more cost than Big Tex… at least in the Utility trailers. Thats different dealers,,, regardless thats what I have seen.

Bottom Line is why pay $4000 when you can the same 7x14ft trailer with the same accessories for $2800.

I bought my 2022 Big Tex 7x 14ft about 1 year ago (july 2022 ish) for $2800 in Reno…
The Lamar trailer dealer wanted $4000 for a 7x14… at that timeframe.

Thats why I own the Big Tex… saved $1200… see, not as dumb as I look.

Those things are colossal piles of crap.... one exception was the karavan ones at Home Depot.... I had one of the larger sized ones in Hawaii....slim pickings for trailers there and that one was beat the hell out of by us all the way till the day someone wanted it more than I did via bolt cutters.

I just bought a Lamar , the fit , finish , and wiring are fantastic . The trailer is also powder coated .
