Using a backyard pool for fire suppression?

I have 200’ of 2” firehouse I can connect to the pool and then throw the filter on backwash. With a
hose nozzle it does a great job of putting out a huge stream of water. However, I’m concerned one hose kink would blow my pool plumbing so I’m looking for a gas pump that would equate to the same output, but don’t know what's big enough?

Has anyone rigged up something to use their pool for emergency fire fighting?

Not sure this would be enough hp or not?

Check out a mini striker pump. Don’t need your pool equipment.

Forget the electric pump. Get yourself a Honda water pump. That way it works if ya have a power outage. Toss the suction end in the pool and start spraying !!! My pump is setup for the 2” firehose as well. And get a GOOD nozzle to go with it.

Firefighters brought their own to our back yard, that thing sucked it dry in minutes.

Gas mini striker pump (Honda motor with a water pump)

It can create enough pressure for you to get things wet before fire hits. It’s not gonna be enough to put out a house fire, if that’s your intent.

A “good nozzle” is only as good as the water pressure to support it. Just because it says 250gpm doesn’t mean that’s what you gonna get.

Check out www.lncurtis.com and search Waterous flotopump. Expensive but used in the industry for a long time. The Honda pumps are very nice too.

Out here, the ranchers use various types of trash pumps, both from water trucks and cattle tanks. For your particular setup/needs, I'd store with the tank full of VP or other non-ethanol fuel. The good thing about VP, not only does it not contain ethanol, but it does not degrade hardly at all for low compression or undustrial use. For the hose nozzles, you may have to try different setups for pressure and distance. Trash pumps do better sucking, than blowing ;)

Same setup I have. The 2" Honda throws out a strong flow of water.
