I've noticed prices have gone down. There is Hallett that I'm tempted to buy, but worried they may keep moving downward. The larger $100k boats are still holding fairly strong, but once the eminent recession kicks in, those will sink.

Tangled with the same idea a few times already before realizing I can't get anything else comparable to replace it with the same $.
my thing is i dont need another boat just yet. have a backup boat, acutally 2 since my brother still owes me for the boat he has.
my boating program is different then most i want to see more of the river. rather get a smaller boat that i can tow behind the 5th wheel if i wanted.

Used boat prices will remain high if spending is up at the consumer level. And if new boat prices remain even higher. Some of these boat prices (pontoons) really come to mind are mind blowing the price of a new toon.

An analysis of avg income by year vs avg boat price (new) by type (toon, twin cat, single 25ft vee) would be interesting

Because most people can’t drop 100k+ On a new boat a used 50k boat will do.

How long can these ridiculous used boat prices last? I wrote an article in 2017 that talked about pricing a used boat and mentioned how some boats are all over the map on price. I think the article is even more relevant now. What do you think?

As the market has risen, even more so since the article was written, I'd say now is even worse. Now everyone believes their boat, rv or off road toy is an absolute unicorn. The same sentimental crap, and the bonus cash some received, has pushed asking prices even higher. That, and now there are hustlers buying all they can to spit shine and turn. Not a good time to be buying, but great if you have something desirable to sell.

I personally like the "feeler" ads. "Just putting a feeler out." "I dont want to sell but make me an offer I cant refuse!" or "Not sure what its worth, but I know the market is crazy, and I know what I got!"

Man up and make the damn listing if you are selling. Price accordingly. Its not rocket science.

The guy that bought mine last August just sold it. He was asking about 10% more than what he paid. But he also did some work that I don't think needed to be done. I think a mechanic may have taken him for a little ride. Also, when I sold it, it was a 2005 model and when he sold it, it was a 2006 model.

IMO, things are gonna come down quite a bit. Covid is ending, the PPP's are drying up, gas prices are out of control, the cost of food is crazy, interest rates are going up etc.. . People are gonna want to hang on to their cash and not blow a few grand on a weekend at the lake. And no, I didn't say it's gonna be the end of the world but we're in for a slow down. America has been living in fantasy land over the last couple of years, I believe a reality check is brewing. And yes, boat prices will come down. Because on paper, boating doesn't make a whole lot of sense to a lot of people.

Gonna buy a boat for the season after my next house closes. Deliberately looking for easy mid-season flips, even if it isn't something I want.

Currently looking at the Yamaha 24's. They are toyota camry/rav4 of boats from my perspective - does nothing great but everything well, known quantity.

Will look more seriously for something long term heading into next season.

If it runs and floats that’s all you need 👍

Bumping this up, prices havent changed a bit the last few weeks on toys. If anything, I am seeing increases.

Shit is insane.

I was just checking out boats online this weekend. Bored I guess, but the things I noticed is....
1). The greedy people with the ridiculous pricing on their boats are still sitting on them from months ago.
2) there are a ton more boats available compared to last year.
3) some real deals are starting to show up.

It’s boating season. I think sellers are pricing their boats at the “make me sell” price.

If it doesn’t sell they can just enjoy their boat this summer.

We stopped and looked at a pontoon that was for sale last week. The guy is higher than giraffe pussy. Boat was clapped out on the inside. Quick search and I found the same one, better condition, $16000 less. About 25%

This ^^^

Another 6-8 weeks and we’ll see it come more inline with accurate market values. I saw two RV dealer commercials today while KTLA morning news was on. Haven’t seen those in a while.
