USA Flag question

My golf club has just received new PIN/Flags for each hole, the flags are of the USA flag. Is it bad to have them since we are gonna be placing them on the green?

That would be my feelings. I have USA flag head covers on my driver, 3 wood and hybrid and I will not put them on the ground.

We are having quite the debate on this at our club, some say since they are not regulated size it's ok, our men's and women's club members did this as a donation to celebrate the flag.

Have those at the club I belong to. We only use them on the 4th of July and when we do we have caddies at each hole to pull the pin and hold it

I would have an issue with it, regardless of what the size regulations are. I was taught that the American flag should never touch the ground, period.

Other courses that have done this provide a pin holder (does not have to be a person) at the side of the green to hold the pin so the flag does not touch the ground. The Flag should never touch the ground.

With that said full honor and respect apply when handling it. If it's left up all night every flag must be illuminated. If illumination is not an options then every flag must be put away at dusk in an honorable manner.

I'm guessing that's how the company marketed their beach towels anyway. Still pushing the limits. There are a few companies making beach towels and at least one is a correct flag. I saw a few last summer on the 4th so I goggled it and that was the most controversial pic I found. Not a 100% correct flag, but damn close.

I'm all for being patriotic but I'm more about being correct about being patriotic. You are definitely right though. Lots of items out there that push the limits.

I would lean the pin against my golf bag or the cart or something, but I would not lay it down. The two pieces of "clothes" with a representation of a flag that I can not get behind are the socks and the converse shoes. I know it's not a real flag, but I don't agree with putting something representing the flag with stars and stripes on your feet, and walking around on them.

As mentioned earlier when we put the flags out for the 3 Summer holiday weekends at my club Metal Flag Stands (designed to allow the pin (and Flag) to be supported and not be laid onthe ground were provided on every hole.

It took me a while to figure out what the stands were for as I found myself holding the pins and then handing them to another member of the group until we figured out that there were stands......oh well at least WE never put the flags on the ground

Oh I know all about tight golf courses. My home course is Black Gold in Yorba Linda.

I think a better idea would be to get another set of pins, and stand them and the flags -- off to the side of the green.
Your club is going to get nothing but controversy if you use the flags on the pins that go in the cup. IMHO it's a dumb idea to use them 'in play'

The amount of people who don't know the flag code is staggering. I'm still learning myself to be honest. I don't think most people deliberately disrespect the flag, but it's more they just don't know and think they are being patriotic.

Watched Nova last night about D-Day. Great documentary where they took vets down in subs to see the ships they were on sitting on the bottom of the ocean off the beach. I can't imagine storming that beach.
