image.jpg Hey Everyone,
I need some opinions as to what shop in SoCal does quality interior work. I had my boat interior done about 5 years ago and was never happy with the final product, the shop used colors they felt would match the boat better vs what I wanted. Long story short, it?s not what I expected and I?m ready to redo it again. Looking to have the same tuck and roll design done, with similar colors and the seats will require new foam. As the last shop used my old foam it really shows. I have heard great things about Martinez marine and eliminator, just never had any experience with them. Also, what?s interior like this go for these days? I would say it?s fair to assume who ever does the work will have to slightly modify the wood seat bases.. Any input is much appreciated..

Thanks,
Chase

Martinez did our spectra last year came out great! Around 7500 but that included a nice cover. I don't have pics on my new phone but there's some in the spectra section.

Danny at west coast marine interiors did the interior in our stoker. I would say his work is top notch for sure. As far as scheduling and staying in contact he's hit or miss. His quirks were made up for by the quality of work though.

Martinez does nice work for a fair price, but I would wait till the winter. They get slammed in spring / summer and over commit the self to too many customers.

I would check with Becka at Main Stitch in Havasu as well, she does some very work. Has done some stuff for me and I just looked at Skater Interior she redid, it was super nice.

Danny at West Coast Marine Interiors did mine and has done all my boats. I did have a repair I needed done and Danny said he could do it, but when I got the boat home he was slammed. He sent me over to his cousin Raul. Raul runs his shop out of Temecula Speed and Marine. I will say VERY IMPRESSED with his work and done early for me. Had him handle some recovers on some cushions for some friends the next week before Memorial Day. They came out perfect and were done a day early as well. He does get very busy as well. My advise no matter who you choose to go to is do it in the winter time. Timelines/Deadlines with interior guys are not always the best!:rolleyes That seems to be the norm in the industry. Raul's number is 714-486-7780. Tell him Mike with the Ultra 27 Shadow referred you.

That's a bit of an understatement, He takes on too much work then over promises and under delivers! Pm me if you think you might go there.

Love the bottom pic! I'm going to keep the tuck and roll, I basically want the exact same set up, with new foam and a different shade of white (peral). Does anyone have any idea as to cost? I was expecting to pay anywhere from 3500-4K . Am I off? I certainly don't want to cheap out... (Again)

I think both of those look good, but I think the interior looks good in the OP'ers boat too. If it were me I'd keep it.

I believe you are off with your pricing. You're probably looking more like $5,500 to $7,000. All the shops are so crazy busy these days so they are charging more and people are paying them. Also be prepared to go 2-3 months over schedule.

I must be a cheap ass, but that seems insane for a 18-20 ft. boat. Not doubting your estimate, just having trouble getting my mind around that #. Mostly because I'm going to need a new interior soon.

i think the 5k number is spot on if he goes with the cookie cutter. everything is templated and they can crank them out quick. will probably be cheaper or come out around the same if they even make new bases to their measurements. but if you want roll/tuck to your bases with all new foam it'll probably end up costing more in hours alone. dont forget that you can sell your existing seats. some jet boater out there with roached seats will pick those up quick.

I think you are just about right with these numbers. I had mine done at WCM recently and was very happy with how it turned out. There is a thread over in the Restoration section. Like others have said be prepared to wait for good quality interior work from any shop

5-7k is what Martinez would charge. That's what my brothers was, 21' open bow.
Original price was $3500 if all the wood bases and components were re-usable. They tear it down and find rotted wood seat bases / backs (25 year old boat...) Then rebuilding the wood where needed adds $$$. Then all new foam adds $$$. Then you throw in new billet cup holders and MISC interior goodies to go with the new vinyl, adds $$$. Then you realize your existing billet hatch hardware and rear grab handles are faded and need to be re-coated or replaced - More $$$. Then you realize the boat currently has no side panels under the passener foot area, and gee that would be cool to add some - $$$

Its a vicious cycle.......Nothing makes old shit look worse than putting new shit next to it!

5-7 grand for an old school redo?? Shit, I need to get my machine tuned up! You really want pearl? Its not a sleek craft is it lol? If you really want pearl, go for it. Using the old foam never works out, but I get trying to work on a budget. I'd be curious as to what your quotes wind up being.

x2.. it looks pretty damn good in the pic? lol

It's alittle bit older picture. The seats really yellowed since then, the part that make me want a redo, is the company I used when I lived in phenix used the old (27 year) foam, so where the front seats wrap around you can see the outline of the wood. It drives me crazy. I rebuilt the boat when I was going to college. Funds were tight back then and I opted for cheaper interior job. Sucks but I'm paying the price now. Bottom line, I'm not happy with it. I think it's probably worth it to replace it all rather than figure out how to add foam.

Lol that's the word on the street. I love the old school tuck and roll, I'll stick with that style. Pearl is what used to be in it originally, it was great, never showed the sun screen spots, really made the boat look nice. This pile is a Crusader but it's been one solid boat for my family, and great for our stretch of river out of Water Wheel.

Okay, I know exactly what you had. I had a Crusader mini mini cruiser, 12', with that pearl cocktail seating. I put a tweed bench in it. I would think you should be in around 3 grand less carpet. If you want my thoughts on that style let me know.

Danny at West Coast Interior does great work! He did the interior with cutouts, re-designed my hatch and made it so you could sit reclined. He's creative and does outstanding work! he takes his time but does great work!

I had my eliminator redone 2 years ago and it was a very good price and a great job.But he did tell me that if the foam is bad or wood needs to be replaced the price was going to go up very fast.

I also had it done in sept was told it may be up to a month but he got it done in 2 weeks.Like others have said best to get done in the off season.

Have to agree in general, off season yes, and don't go with cheap work, because ya get what you pay for , and cheap work aint good, and good work aint cheap, with that said, I went cheap with my interior and I've taken it back to the upholstery place 3 times now to fix things I was not happy with, and yea....im still not happy, and I spent 2k and did all the repair work on the wood myself, and did the R&R on the interior. if you pull it, do the wood work, and install it, you will save some $$ but make sure your happy with the finished product from the upholstery shop, before you install it.:D

So I ended up going to Martinez Marine Upholstery in Corona. Eddie was a good dude and really sounded like he knew what he was talking about, he spent a lot of time going over what colors I wanted and matched exactly what I was looking for. I left the shop feeling pretty good about the price and quality of work that was going to be done. Ill post some pictures once I get to see the boat again. Thanks @Firemanjoe for coming with me!

WCM did my interior, I picked it up about 3 months ago, like all others have said it was behind schedule, from what the workers ther told me Danny is not the owner anymore?
That's all I will say about that, my interior was about $9500 cash, however, they did add a new floor access in the front of the boat, they color sanded and buffed the boat, re-glassed
my bulkheads and re-glassed my entire floor. So it was around $7500 for the interior and I put the 40 0z carpet. We are happy with the outcome as the boat still has a timeless
old school look to it.
