So while I was out at the river for my B-day I was doing some passes with Knucklehead when all of a sudden my boat started losing power and eventually died. I tried to fire it back up and it ran for about 100 yards and died again. So im thinking to myself "great the old Evinrude finally took a shit" :grumble: Look back and there is water coming out of the cowling, I pull the cowling off and water comes pouring out. after some looking around I see a hose had split, it was the hose that goes to the motor and you can hook the garden hose directly up to to flush the motor (honestly in 14 years I dount it had ever been used). So Im thinking "shit, the motor sucked up all this water and this is going to be a bigger problem than I thought. We tow the boat back to Lynch's and let it sit and dry out in the sun in hopes that maybe it was just an elctrical problem and it will run once it dries out.
>>>>>fast forward a couple hours. we try and fire her up again and no dice. she just spins and spins. So I decide F-it and we go drinking. I call AL Stoker the following mroning and he advises me to get the boat to him ASAP as if there is water in the motor this could turn into a very big problem. My brother was leaving the nfollowing morning so he tows it home and drops it off. while there Al takes a look at it and does some stuff and the motor fires right up. thats when he tells my brother, "good thing you brought it in....the motor is about to fall off"
There were some issues with my transom and the motor had actually dug through the gel and glass and was diggin into the wood of the transom. My brother drops the boat off and we tell Al to go throught he boat and fix everything. a week goes by and I dont hear from him,but assume he was just bust and my boat got pushed back (I knew he had a 2 week back log of work) So I decide to call him today. he tells me the boat has been done but my brother's writing was not legible and he lost my number so he knew I would eventually call him.
I hop int he truck and head down there to ge the run down and pick my boat up. Ho goes over everyhting with me.
The first problem...the boat quit running after the hose blew and started filling the cowling up with water. The funny thing is the water actually had NOTHING to d with why the boat quit running. coincidentally the kill switch went out at the exact time. so he puts a new kill switch in and the baot fires right up and runs perfect now, fortunately by some stroke of dumb luck the kill switch actually went bad BEFORE the motor ingested the water (lucky me) so new kill switch, check compression, plugs etc... and she is ready to go :thumbsup
Al adressed the issues the boat was having with the transom and now the boat is solid as a rock.
Not sure why I wrote all this other than I am bored and cant sleep. I also know quite a few of you were wondering what happened.
So some minor work on the transom and a new kill switch and I am ready to run this weekend and the reamainder of the season :champagne::champagne:
