So it looks like the implementation of the Social Security repeal of the WEP and GPO is complete (or really close to completion). At least as far as my situation.

My lump sum reimbursement for 2024 was deposited a few weeks ago. After some ciphering, figuring in 2024 payments and 2025 COLA, I determined that the lump sum included the 12 payments due for 2024 and 2 months in 2025. That would be the 2024 payments received from Feb '24 through Jan '25. (payments are distributed the month after they accrue) Plus it included the CY 2025 payments for Jan and Feb '25 (paid in Feb & Mar 2025).

My Mar '25 payment (for Feb '25) dropped yesterday and was the OLD amount with WEP taken out, however this was included in the lump sum previously received. My SS account on www.ssa.gov shows that, beginning next month, my monthly SS benefit will be the "new" amount with the WEP imposed reduction removed.

For once, the Govt. actually did what they said they would do to actually benefit the common man. It is interesting though, that prior to Jan 20th, SS and Treasury said it would take 12-18 months to implement the changes, but after Jan 20th, it only took 2 months. I wonder what changed? 🤪

For me, it allowed us to pay off my truck a year early. But for those who may not have that great of a public safety pension (teachers, clerks, COs, etc) it can be a real benefit to them. It's just too bad that they had to get shorted, sometimes for decades. Someone who began collecting in 2000 (average cut $350-$400) has lost between $96,000 - $110,000. For most poor retired public servants, that's a lot of money.

Recently applied for SS disability for my wife. Truly deserving and absolutely legitimate. I hired a lawyer and submitted the forms precisely as prescribed by the attorney, Attorney noted our submittal was a shoe in and the form execution was perfect.

Over a month later we received letters from SS that state the forms were incorrect on numerous accounts. Their position was totally inaccurate and the letters (x2) claims missing forms, signatures, etc,, They were absolutely incorrect and I’m now having to address it, Since the date of the claim starts the clock, it’s hurting us.

My thought is that SS is extracting some vengeance based on the recent staff cuts out of spite..
