Anyone ever use or have experience with Ultimate Bunk Boards? They are made from High-Density Polyethelene with an added UV stabilizer.

Thinking about doing my Tritoon trailer with them. My current wood is rotted and the plastic covers are cut up from the center spine on the toons.

Basically TREX for your trailer...

I would still cover it with carpet if I was putting Fiberglass boat on it.

other than that I bet it last's ... I have a deck made of the stuff...its Extremely heavy but 3 yrs in and it still looks brand new.

About 5ish years ago, after the original bunks were toast, I just had the wood replaced without carpet. The wood dries and doesn't rot without the carpet holding water in and they still look like new. I doubt I would do it on a fiberglass boat trailer but for the toon it's just fine :)

What about using those bunk boards with a layer of Sea Deck on top?

If the bunks are flat with no taper, get Iron Wood. It's a tropical hardwood that's pretty impervious to water damage

2x4x12 original board is $132 for two boards, they are all sold in pairs. The original boards are good for spans up to 48” between supports.

My trailer has 4x 10’ per too. So I would need 6 pairs for a total of $660. That’s reasonable IMO especially compared to the plastic crap that’s on there.

So I’ll show my ignorance. Why do you need this special type of bunk.
Just replaced bunks that haven’t replaced since 76. Pressure treated wood. Pick the expense you want to spend on carpet and do it.
2x6 x12. Four bunks. Less than 100

Seems like a good idea but I would want additional supports added closer together as these synthetic materials seem to bow and sag with weight and the heat of the sun.

wood bunks should last 30 years if they're done right.

Done right does not mean shitty lag bolts holding them on from the bottom.

I can't see the point in spending this much money for bunks.

I think less experienced folks will buy into this.... I think this board has too many pickled river rats on it to be swayed into 430.00 per board.Hell that's a 30 pack of whatever , wood , carpet and a new brad gun for the Job....

I know, I literally just finished my kids trailer last night.. 4 bunks , wheel wells and 2 short guides. and these 2x6 bunks. and a bostich brad nailer for less than 500.00

Here’s our amateur hour ( okay 2 1/2 hours) at work last weekend. Still need to do fender wells. Also trailer is 43 years old so it is what it is.
Less than 200

I have these type of bunks on a small jet ski dolly trailer... make sure your boat is HOOKED at the bow before going ANYWHERE. They are like ice!!!! Shit will slide right off if not secured.

Thinking I'm getting one set for the guides on my tritoon. No weight on them, just to get the boat inline when loading. For $132.00 plus hardware seems like a deal compared to buying wood, carpet, adhesive, staples and alot more labor.

I use Arrow's monel staples. The stainless staples are more durable than the zinc plated ones, but not by much. I believe the stainless steel used to make the staples has lower chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content than "good" stainless metal.

Of course that's common these days with the fasteners that come from China. They start rusting after just a couple of months in the marine environment.

That stuff is pricey!

I'm doing bunks on my wacker tomorrow! I just buy the pressure treated stuff, water sealer it a few time, then take it to the river and do it on my patio. Takes about 4 beers now, used to be 6 beers. I have an air compressor on my truck that makes it easy and I'm all for a good project. Biggest thing is good carpet, and an air stapler.

Just an idea

http://www.surfixinc.com/surfix_trailer_bunkslides.html

I put these bunk slicks on my trailer this year. They are slick as owlshit when wet. Easy to winch. You can mount them over carpet or direct over the wood bunk. My bunks are 14' and 10'. They custom cut four 7' pieces and four 5' pieces. Easy 20 min. install on top of the carpet and so far they have been great.

Don't have any good pics but if you look close on this one, you can see them under the boat.

How or did they affect the alignment of the hull to the bow winch roller?

They are less than 1/2" thick. .450 actually. They are 3" wide and the boat sits just as before, except for the .450" diff in height. Haven't noticed any difference or problem with the bow roller.

Ahh ok. They seemed thicker in the pictures. Good to know. My carpet is getting pretty worn but the wood is still good so those may be a great option.

I've been wanting to try some of this on my fender bunks. I gave some to Mike @240Hallett when he installed new fenders on his trailer. Says its working out pretty well so far. I think when I install stainless fenders on my trailer I'll do it.

Haven't used it but a couple of times since install and nothing so far. Surfix says it won't, but we will see.

I put synthetic composite wood on my cat hull over 12 years ago and through drilled and countersunk the oval head M.S. and never have had 1 problem since . under a bill, at that time. Oh, that would be a hundred dollar bill.

They must not of liked what I was wearing the day I was there asking about my ancient Competitive trailer.
