Not the first I’m sure but this was just shot while filming for the Avalon / Tahoe pontoon 2024 catalogue in MI.

Gotta be a 90mph boat. That’d get my ass to Topock in a hurry.

The pup on the way..

I don’t think it’s gonna run 90.. my twin 400 boat ran 63-64..
I've been wondering about these Pontoons.
Are they a Displacement Hull or a Planing Hull.
Is it riding on top or pushing through the water.
Or is it some kind of Hybrid.
A true displacement hull's speed is limited by it's length.
There is a point at which it's maxed and more horsepower won't push it faster.

Depends on the Mfg.. some of them are a lot faster than others.. of the big names Avalon is the slowest but in my opinion has the best layout / windshield and comfort..

As soon as the boat planes off it's no longer a displacement hull. Total waste of money if you ask me.

No
It's 3 tubes skimming across the water.
The skim changes by manufacturer.

I've said this before, I see zero reason to go over 50 mph. They don't 'handle'.
Skim, cut, float, plow is all determined by hp and tube lower designs.

Pontoons are modular built. Pieces are basically bolted down to the same deck by footage.
A great pontoon is saying the same as a great RV.

I would like to see the engineering behind the structure to handle this much HP and weight placed on the front of boat. It is bolted together with a plywood type deck with small bolting. I added on my twin toon boat over 60 thru bolts into the frame.

Lifting strakes on the lower edge of the tube help lift the boat making it a planing hull. There are some other tricks. Some you a larger or lower center tube. Regardless there is still a lot of wetted surface taking a lot of power.

The engineering is there. My avalon with 300 is really built well structurally. It has zero flex.

Especially with 800 pounds up front.

The newer performance tritoons have lifting strakes. My Bennington will plane out at about 16 MPH.

Fast enough to piss of the wives and daughters.
Usually just the passengers up front or in the middle seat. 😁. Steph is usually telling me to go a little faster these days. I’d be afraid to see what Maddie would do if i wasn’t on the boat. Might find out how fast it’ll go. Just wait. It’s just around the corner for you. 😉

It’s already starting 🤣 Soph keeps bumping the throttle when I let her drive the boat.

Had you put a set of jackplates on your boat it would have gone A LOT faster.

My twin 700hp ( total hp ) Playcraft 27’ Xtreme went 98 miles per hour. The jackplates were the key. They also worked like a set of brakes too!

I guess I'm a bit the odd duck here. If I had the coin for twin 500's, they'd probably hang on the back of a fast cat I'd have no business driving.

If a toon does 40 or so, I'd be more than happy. Can eat my sammich and not spill my soda while pulling a tube.

I just think putting a 1000hp on a toon is like putting compounds on your diesel pusher. It's cool, it may be comfortable and even faster than others, but a Prevost isn't a Corvette.

Put another 5 and fill the tank. Lucky to hit 60.
BIL’s Trifecta will do 60 with 6 people, full ice chests and gassed up. I think the Avalon is a little heavier/slower but the 500’s vs 400’s should offset it I’d love to see a full water test comparison.
