So, I know this topic has been beaten to death.

But I think I have some more specific questions on the two.

I have been reading up and watching videos on both.

Parameters:
• I'm looking to spend around $20-25k for the car. (2seater)
• That puts me at about 2018-19 model year for both. (On average)
• With average mods
• And about 1,500 -2K miles on the car.

Usage:
I will be using it to fart around the desert = 95% . Glamis = 5%.

Notes:
My buddy has a Turbo S Dynamic and I was pretty impressed with the suspension.
Never been in a CanAm.

Questions:
- Is one more "reliable" than the other?
- Does one have any major maintenance faults?
- Is there a specific Mod that I should look on either, that would make it a "steal"?
- Is there something you "wish you knew" before you bought either?
- Do they both really compaire in the suspension department?
(I want to buy the car "turn-key". I don't really want to fuck around with mods. (I'll let the original owner do that)

Please share your thoughts on any of my many questions.

Thank you
FT

I’d look at the 4 seat RZR or the 2 seat Can Am for that use case.

2 seat Turbo s RZR wheelbase is kinda short for the desert.

You’ll likely be very happy with either.

Can Ams need more mods to be reliable. If you are buying used, just make sure the car has all that stuff.

This can turn into a Ford vs Chevy type debate. Both have their pluses and minuses, but you won’t go wrong with either one. Buy the cleanest, well kept car in your price range with the upgrades you want. 20-25 will buy a nice car.

Edit: I would consider front end reinforcement (gussets) mandatory on the can am. I would highly recommend radius rods and arms on both- but not mandatory IMO, unless you ride hard.

I would consider springs mandatory on both as they both collapse a few inches over time- preferably a full shock tune.

Both cars can benefit from clutch tuning, but not a must have at stock power level.

The Can am is going to have quite a bit more power, and have a higher HP ceiling after you add a tune- if that’s your thing. For you usage, you will be fine stock.

Both of those cars have different size wheels front to rear, if I’m not mistaken. I would want a set of aftermarket wheels on either car. They would not need to be beadlocks. I would stick with 32s on these cars, but some guys run 33s.

Most of the other stuff is user preference.

I would try to sit in/ ride in both, and see what you prefer.

As stated above I would suggest you sit and drive in both if possible, the seating positions are extremely different. That alone might sway your decision.

The 2 seat RZR has a very short wheelbase - unless you have ( Trailer ) toy box limitations I would go 4 seater
The Polaris line up has 2 car systems 64 inch wide turbo & non turbo and 72 inch wide turbo & non turbo in your price range

you can get a newer car W/ less miles if you go w/ a 64 inch wide car @LargeOrangeFont & @Bpracing1127 can give some direction, the 72 wide car performs better but if your just cruising 80% of the time, the 64 inch works great !!

LOF has a 64 turbo and is newer & BP has the 72 turbo (think it’s a 2019 ) car both motors are nearly identical both are 4 seaters

The can am needs some “ must haves “
watch this video from Shock therapy - discusses trouble free can am modifications

either car you’ll want radios & intercom and shock work ( springs at least )

While I’m a can am guy the problem w/ a 2 seat can am is storage space!

the wheel base is great
but carrying a spare tire, tools and cooler and gear for 2 people things get tight, yes it can be done, but if you ever do an over night trip you need a roof rack.

I think they look great ! super sporty w/ aftermarket cage!

Chupacabra has a trunk system that looks great and is Very economical

What does your group have too? You don’t want to be the only one with either.

I have owned both of the above mentioned, and would recommend a Wildcat XX over both, But I am byass!!
Out of the box, there is no better suspension platform (except for Speed) that I have driven. If you add a turbo, you will have smiles for miles!!

I’m a little bias but I’d go 4 seater turbo s. Friend has the 2 seat can am and rode in mine and really liked it. I just really don’t like the seating position of the can am I prefer the more upright position in the RZR.

But If I was going with a two seater it would be can am as mentioned the 2 seat RZR is just to short of a wheelbase and no storage.

Forgot to add that if your friend has the turbo s and ride command it’s a really cool feature to have. We have a couple cars in our group with it and nobody has comms. We just use the ride command group ride feature and you can even send messages with it.

As suggested, I would opt for a 4 seat Turbo S over a 2 seat canam. I haven't owned a CanAm, but I got a chance to drive a fully built XP1k 4 seat, and new 2 seat and 4 seat can ams on a guys trip in Arizona a couple years back. I personally like the seating position in the Polaris over the CanAm for every situation, except full-on wide open dune riding. The 4 seat canam's felt like you were dragging a trailer versus the 4 seat Polaris. I own a 2-seat XPK1, and if I was doing it over, I would go with a 4 seater and use the back seat for cooler, tools, parts, versus trying to cram it all into the rear "bed" area.

I think @Hammer might still have one for sale , even though I'd rather him keep it and ride with us . Super nice 4 seat RZR at a great price . We usually ride for hours at a time so the 4 seater works great for the two of us . Room for tools , beer ice chest , food ice chest , extra gas & clothes and extra beer .

My car is sold, it struggled in glamis and one of the primary reasons I sold it . I just grabbed a new Turbo R.

I’d go after a turbo S 4 seater if it were me. Or two seat can am with that budget. Can Am would need to have all the necessary upgrades though.

A lot of turbo s’ out there.

Brother in law has the turbo S 4 seat. I have the can am X3 max so it’s 4 door. But mine is the 64 inch wide car DS so it’s base model. . His definitely has an advantage with suspension. Power are very close. I like the feel of mine over his. His is more truck feel. Mine is more car feel. It really comes down to how you feel behind the wheel. Both very capable cars.

I've had
'16 XP Turbo
'19 Turbo S4
'21 Turbo S4
'19 Can Am (ds max lgbtq or some letter combo - 72" turbo version)

With that being said, I still believe the Turbo-S4 is an incredible machine in every way. Both of my Turbo S' were built (cage seats intercom etc) and taken directly to Baja with no break-in. 500 mi of abuse each time and neither one skipped a beat whatsoever. I put 2k trouble free miles on each one before selling. Both buyers are still enjoying them.

My vote would be a Turbo-S Dynamix. You can find built ones for mid 20's.
