..... Well it looks like it. We had a small storm roll through at the end of last week and the lightning started a couple brush fires. They fought them off and I think knocked down 1 but the other was in rough terrain, not threatening structures, and was naturally caused so they are letting it burn itself out as long as it stays away. Kinda nice to see some common sense used in wildfire firefighting versus the California method.

I've kinda wanted to drive over to Oro Valley just to see if I can see the glow of that valley from there. I'd imagine someone could get some crazy good shots of something like that.

Went to Apache on Monday night, had to snap a couple pics along the way. Pulled over to get a better pic.

I saw on the news last night that the area that is burning apparently hasnt burned in over 100 years so as long as it stays away from people and structures, its a good thing.

You know they have been using air assets to fight it from day one. And it’s jumped the fire slurry lines multiple times

I knew they were at the beginning but I thought I was told they backed off and were just monitoring it once it was moving up the canyon and away from structures?

Damn. Honestly thats kinda disappointing. Its a naturally occurring fire in an un-populated area. let nature run its course

Are you in tucson? Shit running towards 3 communities so I’m not sure how you think this isn’t a danger

They are evacuating all of the foothills and part of oro valley now

Don't know how you fight a fire along Pusch Ridge, it is for all intents and purposes vertical terrain.

I think @FlyingLavey is talking about how yesterday they said that it was natural occurring and not endangering anyone so they were gonna just let it burn but this morning it started towards the communities in Catalina foothills so they are doing fire breaks and evacuations now in preparations. Amazing just over night last night it grew by appx 2000 acres.

As of 3 hours ago...

Residents in an area of the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona, are being told to evacuate as a raging wildfire sparked by lightning and fueled by hot, dry conditions grows larger.

The Bighorn Fire grew overnight from about 5 square miles to 7 square miles and was 10% contained as of Thursday afternoon, according to an update from the Coronado National Forest.

The evacuation order was issued Thursday afternoon for an area of the northern foothills. Fire crews were conducting a back burn in the area in order to protect homes and property.

"If you are in this area, evacuate now," an alert from the Pima County Sheriff's Department said. "Move south away from the Catalina Mountains. Do not delay leaving the area."

Deputies were going door to door to alert residents who may have not have received the message.

Multiple fire trucks, five hotshot crews and three helicopters were battling the blaze and additional assets were being called in. Nearby Catalina State Park was closed due to the blaze.

Precisely. Even early this morning it was still staying high on the mountains. As soon as it started coming down, absolutely. It's time to put it down.
